RIP Casey Kasem!
You were a wonderful part of our lives listening to your voice,
and listening to the Top 40!!
God Bless!!!
My thoughts and prayers to Casey's family and friends!!

As sad as his passing is, I am so thankful that his children were with him. Children only get one father. Jean may have been his spouse but it seems she has already found another man a few years back.

I am glad that he was surrounded in love in his last days and that the control of the situation was seized from Jean. I hope the children continue to reclaim their rightful place as his children and I hope they do file suit against her because nothing will punish her as much as losing money, especially to the children that she has despised and rejected for so long.

She may want to think twice about having her dirty laundry aired in court. What we have seen so far of her has been quite distasteful and I am quite sure there is a whole new level of greed and evil that we have yet to see.

I'm sitting here smiling remembering how important his radio show was to me. The count down was so exciting. We would wait with bated breath for the announcement of "number one" as though it was the most important thing in the world. Well, it was for me back then. Ah, those were great days. Thanks for that, Casey.

You may be gone, but your voice and personalty will never be forgotten.

Rest peacefully Casey Casem...

RIP Casey - I grew up with you and will miss your very witty remarks on the radio. May you be in heaven entertaining those around you.

Many blessings to your daughter and family and friends. I'm glad they were with you in your final hours.

Rest in Peace Mr. Kasem... Your voice will forever remain as a part of my youth and I thank God you have now found peace and true love. :heartbeat:

I could never be joyous about someone's passing but I'm so relieved that Casey is no longer suffering. It does sadden me that he passed on Father's Day. But I'm happy that his children were able to be with him in his final hours. I also wish Liberty had been there as well. Casey was surrounded by love and not the chaotic environment Jean subjected him to.

Now Jean needs to claim her all important prize of his 80 million fortune and go crawl in a hole where she came from. At least his children can hold their head high knowing they did what they could for their father.

"Keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars".

I used to love hearing that saying when I was a kid. It was perfect for a young person trying to keep balanced.

The count down was such a big part of many of our youths.

There was a period in my teen years where I never missed it. Every week I was tuned in on the dial (radio's had dials back then, and antennas)

Waiting to hear if my favorites had moved up or down on the list, singing along to all the top tunes of the day. Dedications, don't even get me started on the dedications.

For the younger generations who are not familiar with Casey or the count down, I don't know that they will ever understand what it meant to have someone come into your home each week, a disembodied voice, who you considered a friend, who you felt you knew, who you counted on to provide that sense of continuity.

Rest In Peace dear man. Thank you for so many fond memories.

Very sad that he spent those last weeks being shuffled around (I would go far enough to say smuggled), and almost didn't have his family by his side during the process.

Prayers to his family, . . and even to Jean.

His oldest children, who challenged their stepmother for control of Kasem's medical decisions in his last months, are not fighting his wife for possession of his remains, a family member told CNN Sunday.
Daughter Julie Kasem will host a memorial celebration at her Northridge, Caifornia, home n Saturday, June 21, the family member said. No other funeral arrangements were yet known.
No autopsy is expected since Kasem died under a doctor's care in a hospital. The immediate cause of death was from sepsis caused by an ulcerated bedsore, the family member said.

While many DJs convulsed their listeners with stunts and "morning zoo" snarkiness, Kasem would read "long distance dedications" of songs sent in by readers and introduce countdown records with sympathetic background anecdotes about the singers.<snip>
Kasem was born Kemal Amin Kasem in 1932 in Detroit. He began his broadcasting career in the radio club at Detroit's Northwestern High School and was soon a disc jockey on WJBK radio in Detroit, initially calling himself Kemal Kasem.
In a 1997 visit with high school students in Dearborn, Michigan, home to a large Arab-American community, he was asked why he changed his name to Casey.
"It didn't sound like a deejay; it wasn't hip. So we decided I'd be 'Casey at the Mike' — and I have been since," Kasem said.
In the 1975 Los Angeles Times interview, he said he had been doing "a regular screaming DJ show" in San Francisco in the early 1960s when his boss suggested he talk about the records instead.
He was unconvinced, since his screaming routine had brought him top ratings. But he said he had learned "after a particularly unpleasant situation in Buffalo never to argue with general managers."

God rest your soul Mr. Kasem, an eternity of peace and sweet music awaits you.

Every week on “American Top 40,” Kasem would play Billboard magazine’s top 40 records — no matter the genre or the political bent. Along the way he offered history lessons, peppering his introductions with chart statistics, anecdotes and the stories of the artists who made them. He even helped listeners cope with major events, such as the death of Elvis and the murder of John Lennon. He united lovers and old friends with his sentimental "Long Distance Dedications," an idea that came to him when he was a DJ in Los Angeles and received a letter from a fan in Oakland.<snip>
Kasem was married to "Cheers" actress Jean Kasem for 33 years, and they had a 24-year-old daughter, Liberty Irene. From 1972 to 1979, he was married to Linda Myers, the mother of his other three children Kerri, 41, Mike, 40, and Julie, 38. Kerri and Mike followed in his footsteps — she hosts two nationally syndicated radio shows from Los Angeles and he is a DJ in Singapore. Julie is a licensed physician assistant and mother of two. <snip>
Kasem left "Top 40" during a contract dispute in 1989 and returned in 1998. During those years, Casey and Jean Kasem focused on their other passions, becoming political and social activists for several causes, including animal rights, environmental preservation, homelessness and world peace. He also took Hollywood to task for its negative portrayal of Arabs in motion pictures and television. more at link: http://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/celebrity/casey-kasem-radio-icon-dies-82-n123191
