Caylee opening the sliding glass door photo

BBM:

I think the pic of Caylee is in the A's bedroom. The sliding door off the living room doesn't have tile in front of it.

My opinion on the photo is this. We again are dealing with a very small compressed Jpeg of a vid capture that at the most would have a 640x480 resolution. Without having access to the original content, we will never know for sure that it's been doctored. As it has been said, this is a still photo and proves absolutely nothing. Caylee may have tried to move the door and was unable.
I don't think we would see the right side of the lanai if that was the master. But I concur that this is a distorted vid capture and that is why it is poor quality.

this picture is from 8-2007 and there is a transition between tile and carpet somewhere in the living area. Could be an entryor dining, but at least we can see they used that carpet and tile combo. Maybe it is there and hard to distinguish or maybe it was changed out at some point.
ETA: or is that the bed in the background? LOL)

I'm not too bothered whether it's "doctored" or not, I think the SA can have someone qualified review it and probably already have.

Looking at it a little closer. I think it's the living room but some furniture on the right side of the door has been changed or moved. Everything else looks spot on and if you look closely you can see some tile in front of the door.

Next thing ya know we'll be finding microscopic kitteh's again!

you are correct! I didn't even catch that!! For above ground, all that is required is that the ladder is removable. The statue is FS 515.29 (2) Residential swimming pool barrier requirements, for the above ground. Mine is an in ground. Like I said, when I had mine built, I didn't have to have any of this in place, but did anyway. In fact, I have a fence, the cage, the barrier, the higher handles (on all screen doors on the cage too) & the enclosed lanai. When I do decide to sell, that will be a major plus for me.. if the economy were to ever pick up...

I really do think it's best to err on the side of caution when you have a pool, any pool. Especially here in Orlando where child drownings are a high risk. :)

right - if you look closely you can see the tile lines in both piccies. I think there must have been a different piece of furniture moved.

In any event, I think she was capable of reaching the handle. Opening it? I'm not so sure.

The picture is real, it is Caylee and she could open the door. Doesn't mean she opened the door to her death.

I agree it's Caylee. My concern was if it was doctored, and why. :)

I don't like the left arm.....something about it is not right!

  • #149
IMO, her body is perfectly counterbalanced by her foot and other arm to assist in opening the door. this is exactly how my kids did it. Anchored back foot and pulling in the opposite direction on the door jamb with the other hand, just as Caylee is doing in this picture.
She may or may not have been successful, but she was sure trying. If unsuccessful, I assume she would have tried another method, ie pushing the door on the edge and abandon the handle.

I agree! I think it's Caylee and I do think she could probably have opened the door, but it may have taken some time and effort for her to have done so...depends on her strength. So...where was Casey when Caylee was making her way out of the house unnoticed and climbing into the swimming pool? I just don't buy the defense's "accidental drowning" theory.

My son is 25 months old and is 37 inches tall (same height Caylee was). According to her NCMEC poster she weighed 50 pounds; my son weighs almost 31 pounds - tall and thin for his age, but he is strong. I have a sliding back door (with sliding screen) going onto my patio. He can unlock it and open it enough to go outside -- I learned this last week when he did just that. His height in comparison to the handle is almost exact to the the photo of Caylee. (ETA: I have put a bar across my door so he can't open it.)

The way she is standing in the photo, and the way her right hand is positioned on the wall (door jamb), makes me think she was pushing it open (using the wall as leverage). Or, perhaps she was just standing there looking out.

O/T: but Cindy would have us believe that a 2T short would not fit Caylee anymore (with a diaper). My son wears a 2T pant for the length, but an 18-month pair of shorts fits him perfectly - a little loose actually - even with a diaper. I think it's hard to say that a child fits an exact size because the clothes are made so differently nowadays. I have 18 month - 3T shirts hanging in his closet.

All I can say is I'm 48 and I have a hard time opening my sliding glass door. Dang thang is so heavy (pull, pull, pull). Unless we are there and can test the door, we can't really appreciate it ;)

MOO - please and thanks.

Hi guys, I'm a newbie. As to the question of photoshop please look at the childs left shoe. There are stacked duplicate patterns. Looks fishy to me.

Just curious, do we know when the defense gave this to the state in discovery? I know in late May they gave a notice of discovery which includes some pictures, but I am not sure if we have seen those yet?

Does anyone have the transcript of JB's question to Cindy re: the photo and her answer?

I recall seeing the photo presented at the trial and thinking "no way THAT girl is under 3 years old" and then hearing JB's question which was worded in a way that did NOT claim it was Caylee. Then, Cindy answered the question as if it were Caylee. So, only Cindy laid claim to Caylee being in the photo.

I'm not sure the photo was doctored, exactly, but it does look like someone perhaps purposely messed with the width/height ratio so the girl, if Caylee, would appear taller. (I also did notice the double shot of the upper design on the left tennis shoe, but couldn't this being low quality or a video still account for that?)

I haven't read through all the post yet so forgive me if this was already mentioned but, Does anyone remember some time after Caylee was gone that Cindy was babysitting a little girl close to the age Caylee would have been? There were numerous post's about it here on WS....hmmm

BBM:

Didn't he say something to the effect of "Does that picture accurately represent what it's supposed to accurately represent?"

  • #156
I think this is what JB said--(I don't believe he asked the "did this picture represent accurately what it's supposed to represent" for THIS photo):

Q: "Prior to the last time you saw Caylee, was she about this height?"
A: "She may have been a bit taller. It might be the accurate height (in that photo)."

Sneaky...

Correct me if I'm wrong....

OMG...so it was only implied and no one ever said it was actually Caylee?

I don't have one but I was just pulling up the video and I will do one. It's short. BRB.

test1.jpg

-- this picture is rather small so you need to zoom in to see what I'm referring to here.

Not sure this adds anything of value but I also was curious about the picture of Caylee reaching to open the door so pulled it into Corel and used invert to create a negative of sorts.

The thing that stands out for me in the picture has nothing to do with her shoes, outfit, or height. But the outline of her left arm which is reaching up to the door handle. It appears to be drawn in to me as I don't see that in any other of her extremities. The left leg shows somewhat of a dark outline but appears to be from the door frame background and not as pronounced as her arm.

Also, there's some difference in the floor tile (on the right side) from the original pic vs. the inverted pic.

FWIW.

I kind of remember Cindy stating it was Caylee during cross examination and it was taken in spring of 2008.
