I believe it...that's how pathological liars work. Often the reverse psychology works, and the person being duped will waver (hmmm...well if she's willing to go to the police dept then she has nothing to hide...maybe I was wrong...and they're off the hook). My brother is a sociopath and psychological liar and he has used that method often.
