CDC: 107 people on TB flights need tests

  • #41
How is it spin when even the CDC admits they did not tell him he could not go to his wedding? They admit, in their own words, that they advised him that they "preferred he not travel." That he was not forbidden from travelling, but that he "breached the contract of trust." What does that mean???

He told them he was going. They never said, "You can't go."
The reports I heard said they strongly suggested he not travel. TB is an contagious and spreads through the air. They specifically did tell him not to fly on a commercial plane because of the close proximity to others and the recycled air. He ignored that to go to his wedding. He knew he had TB before he left, but they did not know the strain. They found out the strain two days before he was supposed to leave for his wedding. The CDC left messages and tried to contact him, but he evaded them and left anyway. He also evaded them in Rome. He may not have wanted to be in another country for treatment, but he should have thought of that before he left the country and exposing a lot of innocent people. If anyone does come up with TB and can show a proximity to him, his a** is grass.

The audacity of this azz to place literally 1,000's of people at risk.

He deserves to be hung out to dry. Typical azzhole attorney.

His name is Andrew Speaker, and he works with his father, who is also an attorney, in the Atlanta area.

Yep, then flew from Europe into Canada, and crossed the border back into the U.S.

Cost of treating this form of TB is $500,000.

If he infected anyone, make him pay for their treatment, along with their right to sue him, for millions more.

he has no right to play Russian Roulette with the lives of others.

The reality is, I think, that being in an airplane is no worse than being at the mall. This is according to the local doctor reporting on it in my area.
He just should not have been out ANYWHERE at all.

50% of people who contract drug-resistant TB, DIE.

His new wife was tested yesterday, and she tested negative (so far).

"DENVER - The tuberculosis patient under the first federal quarantine since 1963 is a 31-year-old personal injury attorney who practices law with his father in Atlanta, a federal law enforcement official said Thursday."

He's a personal injury lawyer! This is too much.....

The infected man had flown to Paris on May 12 aboard Air France Flight 385, also listed as Delta Air Lines codeshare Flight 8517, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

He and his bride also took four shorter flights while in Europe — Paris to Athens on May 14; Athens to Thira Island May 16; Mykonos Island to Athens May 21; and Athens to Rome May 21 — but CDC officials said there was less risk of infection during the shorter hops compared to the trans-Atlantic flights, which each lasted eight hours or more. .

Instead, on May 24, he flew from Rome to Prague on Czech Air Flight 0727, then flew to Montreal aboard Czech Air Flight 0104 and drove into the U.S., according to CDC officials.

I heard a Radio talk show host while on my lunch say he would have done the same thing this attorney did....his reasoning, no way in 'hell' would he want to be stuck out of his own country because he is sick, and now way would he put hisself in the hands of another country....

Now, I can understand not wanting to be 'stuck' out of USA and being very upset, scared, and untrustworthy being in another country, especially if you are dealing with health issues, HOWEVER...me personally, I would have sufferend it out, did what I had to do to stay away from everyone as to not infect. I think of all the children, yada yada.

Only a self centered, self absorbed, uncaring, idiot of a person would do such a thing. Not a care for the other people, very sad and VERY scary!

Oh I understand that Buzz and I believe this man will die. Probably that reality is what motivated him to make such an outrageous decision.

They told him not to get on a commercial flight AFTER he was already in Italy.

He did not evade the CDC. He told them all along (since January) that he was getting married overseas and asked repeatedly if he should put off the wedding. They never said no, just that they advised against it.

If he was so dangerous (before he left the country - after is a different story) then why was he allowed to go to work and continue on his life as normal? Are the people in Atlanta less worthy than the people on those airplanes?

In another ironic twist...FNC is reporting that Speaker's new FIL is a physician at the CDC, who specializes in TB!!!!!

They do not think the FIL has passed TB on to Andrew, but they are investigating.

Interesting. Do you think, if he was so deadly to be around, that the FIL would have allowed the wedding and honeymoon to proceed?

I wonder if the FIL had any advice on the fastest way home.

He said she said. He says they didn't tell him, they say they did, how do we know...they are saying he evaded them, they were trying to get him 2 days before he left the states for wedding and he ignored to not cancel his plans, then evaded them again in Europe, then snuck back in US by driving because he was on no fly list...that's what I have read anyways. I think this guy is a big azz. JMO, FWIW.

As if Al Qaida needed any more ideas on how to attack us.

His FIL is Robert Cooksey, a TB researcher at the CDC, MicroBiologist.

Just a thought, but what if FIL thought Andrew was a big azz, too.....what if he purposely infected him somehow?

OK, I know, I know....I've been reading too many novels.
