So JB is just begging to go to South Florida. I just have a few questions for him. I don't think he'll respond....but "like my mother said........if you don't ask blah blah blah"...

So he thinks that KC is being treated harshly because she is a "young and attractive"......Does that mean that once she enters South Florida that she would no longer considered attractive?????? Wait......perhaps he is referring to how beautiful the women are down there and eluding that KC doesn't hold a candle to them?

JB feels that the South Florida demographic, unlike any other, is most comparable to Orlando. Wait.......will the cast of Jersey Shore be filming there in May 2011????? Or does the easy access to deep water private docks come into play?????

JB has stated that this case has shown that there is bias against him becasue he is Latino. Well....JB.......I'm sorry to tell you this but Latinos dress MUCH better than you do. And...... they actually get into the "hot spots" down there. I suspect the only "hot spot" you'll be allowed entry into will be the sauna at the Holiday Inn resort. Perhaps the "hot seat" will afford you a more "thermal" experience.

Sorry folks.....call me snarky.....but every once in a while you have to laugh so that you don't bang your head against the wall.

This was discussed here somewhere early on-It was speculated, at the time, that he was possibly looking for a Cuban demographic versus a Puerto Rican demographic, so as to avoid the issue of bias regarding Zenaida, reputedly half Puerto Rican.
I think it is not so much the culture, as he himself is Puerto Rican, IIRC, but the communities he is familiar with-i.e., Miami is where he has done a lot of business networking, he went to school there, had a home there, etc. IOW, he thinks he has 'friends' there and maybe he thinks he could get a break with the media there. Unfortunately, Geraldo cannot serve on the jury, so.......
On the other hand, Orlando being a major city in Florida, JB is probably correct to state that getting the same melting pot, including the hispanic population, will be limited-Which comes back to your point, why is he worried about the demo in the manner that he is? Is it simply that he is committed to her jury peers being reflective of her home venue? If it was about her skin color, I would not think there would be an issue as he stresses it.

This is where I always get so mixed up, too. I thought it was supposed to be a jury of the defendant's peers ~ not of her attorney's peers. Am I missing something subtle here? Am I racist or dumb? Honest, what am I not understanding?

The fact that you don't understand demonstrates a capacity for logic and reasoning. It's all good.

I live in South Florida, in Broward County (Fort Lauderdale area). We have the same TV stations as Miami and the coverage of this case has been pretty significant. I spend a lot of time in Orlando on business, I don't see much difference in the level of media coverage.

Here's my theory. Baez started his legal career in Miami-Dade County and he was, from what I have read, pretty much a failure. Now...here he is, heading up a murder case that is getting tons of attention. IMHO, he wants to come back "home" and show everyone what a great big important Legal Eagle he has become. It's all about his ego. He's a nobody that desperately wants to be somebody!! The Cuban thing is part of it as well. "His people" will be so impressed that they will believe every lying word he tells them.

He is so wrong, he has absolutely no chance of winning. Casey will spend the rest of her life eating spicy snacks in a cell. George & Cindy will be charged with obstruction & perjury. And Baez? Hopefully he will screw up enough to destroy his career.

Here's what I found at http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Jury+of+peers :

"Juries have greatly changed in recent decades, as the term "impartial jury" in the Fifth Amendment to the Constitution requires that the pool of jurors must include all races, ethnic groups, and women as well as men in percentages relative to the general population. Any failure to achieve that balance, or systematic challenges to those of the same ethnicity of the accused, may result in a claim on appeal that the jury was not fair---in popular jargon, not "a jury of one's peers." This does not mean that a Samoan male must be tried by other Samoan males, but it does mean that the potential jurors must come from a balanced group. Members of the jury are supposed to be free of bias, have no specific knowledge of the case, and have no connection with any of the parties or witnesses."

So this sounds to me like it's supposed to be peers of the accused ~ not the accused's lawyer. It also sounds like it only has to be a balanced group ~ not a group assembled of the accused's same ethnic background. And it certainly doesn't even mention the ethnicity of the accused's neighboring community. Seems like this gives HHJP (His Honorable Judge Perry) a very open and wide range of circuits from which he can draw. (Even us conservative, military and small-town-value folks in the northwest Florida panhandle.)

Note: I understand that I could never serve on this jury but I do have confidence that our area could certainly bring justice to this case. Very, very few people up here are even aware that this case is still on-going if they ever even knew it ever happened to begin with. Bad part is that they could never make it home for breaks, as HHJP was envisioning; so it probably won't be his pick even though he mentioned Pensacola.

I don't understand the change of venue issue, can someone help me out here? I thought the judge had decided to bring in jurors from another area and sequester them. This thread is saying they will travel to a different venue. Does that mean daily? Just confused is all, can someone update me , please? :)

I do believe JPJr. wants to bring jurors from other counties into Orange County. He will transport them back and forth until deliberations, then he will sequester those jurors..JMHO

I do believe, if Baez is adamant on the largely hispanic communities, he will do a grave injustice to Inmate Anthony. She has accused a spanish/black woman as the one responsible for Caylee's demise and this will enrage them for they will see through the lies. She's got 3 different stories as to how Caylee was abducted or failed to be returned..they will view Inmate Anthony and her family as racist, for someone will bring up CA's thoughts on the spanish friends and boyfriends of Inmate Anthony and her dislike for them...I don't think Baez is thinking about Inmate Anthony as much as he's thinking about himself, his infamy and getting face time for his business...JMHO

Justice for Caylee

Thank you LLL. I thought the jury would be sequestered throughout the trial not just deliberations. All throughout testimony. There will be constant daily news coverage on this case once the trial is underway so that makes no sense to me.

]In parts of MIA, English isn't the first language.. or even a known language. [/B] Lot can be lost/misunderstood during translation. To even consider this as a disablity, would set of screaming of bias.

Which would make it hard to set a jury, that understood what is being said, much less understand what is being said (Science evidence, etc)

Truthfully, I think THAT is what JB is shooting for.

I'm not saying it's possible. Only that it seems like JB might think it's possible.

I can attest to that! If you get lost in many parts of that area you better know how to speak Spanish if you want any help.

Plus if he still owns a house there he could save on expenses by staying there.

This is what I thought the judge was talking about too. The only travel time would be the lawyers, judge & staff traveling there to pick a jury and then transporting the jury members for the trial to Orange then back home after the trial is over.

Can you imagine being sequestered for 2 months or more??? No TV (NG), no internet or anything.:shakehead:
