Charles was an inmate at Brevard Correctional Institute in Sharpes, Florida in 1979. He was serving a 4-month sentence for car theft. He allegedly escaped during December of that year and has never been heard from again.
John Rodney McRae is the prime and only suspect in Charles' case. He was a guard at the prison and there were allegations that he and Charles may have had a relationship. Officials believe Charles may have tried to expose their affair before he disappeared. While McRae was working at the institute, five boys disappeared. Although Charles is wanted for escape by the police, foul play is suspected in his disappearance.
