Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was about 20 minutes into a presentation when witnesses heard shots fired from a nearby building, a spokesperson for Utah Valley University told NBC News.

The spokesperson said, to the best of the university's knowledge, Kirk was hit and taken with his security team away from the premises, and the courtyard was cleared.

UVU confirms shooter fired from nearby building, suspect in custody​

Utah Valley University spokeswoman Ellen Treanor has confirmed to the New York Times that Charlie Kirk was struck by a gunman positioned in the Losee Center, a building approximately 200 yards from the event site.

That's exactly what I thought. Single shot, his detail didn't react to any nearby threat, and people seemed to turn around. That explains the big gaping wound. He used a rifle.

If it's the man on twitter they had in handcuffs, he looked to be an older man (I'd say 60's, but I'm bad at ages)

I thought at a rally like this would have more security. Typically these sorts of events are required to have a crapload of security.

I'm guessing there wasn't a walk through ahead of time? I don't know if his life has been threatened before, but I'm guessing it has been? It's one thing to have security near your body, but another to have security experts check out the venue to see sightlines, access to stage, etc.

Yes I thought he looked in his 60s. If that was actually the shooter in the video i saw.

An eyewitness just stated on a radio update that the shooter was “elderly.”

I think he had security in the video. One guy was standing against the front of the stage watching the crowd.
