On the one hand, of course this is wonderful and welcome news. Students can feel relieved.

OTOH, the reason the campus is all clear is because the perpetrator was able to shoot CK dead from the roof of a building and haul tail away, free and clear and unapprehended.

Which is more than a little alarming.

So the threat is ongoing everywhere, I would say.
However the University is closed until Sept 15.

Graphic details

Witnesses describe lax security, then horror

More than 3,000 people were attending the outdoor event when Kirk was shot.

Witnesses are continuing to come forward, describing lax security measures, the trauma of witnessing Kirk bleed on stage, and the chaotic aftermath as the crowd began to flee in terror.

"It's a little surreal. Especially then. It felt like a dream," a first-year student named Gavin told CBS News, external, the BBC's US partner.

"Everyone started praying... Then, we started running."

A high school senior who was attending the class to earn extra credit called the scene "insane".

"Everybody just started running and screaming," said the student, identified as Sam. "Girls were crying. It was insane."

Deseret News, external reporters Emma Pitts and Eva Terry described witnessing the attack.

“I’ll never get the image out of my head,” Pitts said. “It looked like a fountain of blood came out of his neck. His body went limp and then his eyes closed.”

She added that she was surprised that "nobody scanned our equipment, nobody scanned our bags, there was no security like that.”

I wasn’t aware of Charlie Kirk, although I am a news junkie, but apparently he operated in the social media and podcast spaces, which I don’t inhabit.

Yet here is a man, only 31, with a wife and children aged one and three.

His assassination is a tragedy. He was only speaking. That’s Constitutionally permissible.

I’m very grateful that so far it doesn’t appear as though anyone in the crowd was injured or killed, as happened at the attempted assassination of Trump.

Now, IMO, Charlie Kirk will be a martyr along with all those who are murdered for standing up for the causes in which they believe.

VOTING, NOT VIOLENCE. Make your choices in the voting booth, not by blowing away someone with whom you disagree.

In a major high profile case, I have never, not once, seen a law enforcement agency say they have a POI in custody, and it not been the guy.

Look at the confusion this has caused. A great number of people now believe the guy was captured, when he was not. I literally just talked to my mom on the phone and she said "at least they caught the guy."
I have.

Richard Jewell. Remember him?

I still feel bad for that man.

Somebody knows who did this. And as Massguy has said, the shooter was surely recorded on multiple cams, and will likely be identified, and maybe even tracked to some extent, once they have all been checked. I expect tonight may be his last night of freedom, if he makes it through the night. JMO

Have they reported anything about the manning of security at the Lovee building? Was it Kirk’s security team, or was it campus security?

While I don’t think it was a “signal” or anything, it’s not technically correct that Kirk was specifically mentioning transgender people at the moment he was shot. I do think that the questioner was getting around to making a point about perceptions around “transgender shooters”, so it may just be an issue of semantics, but I just want everyone to have accurate info about the last moments of his life.

"Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?” an audience member asked Kirk, reports CNN.

“Too many," Kirk responded.

The audience member went on to explain that five transgender Americans have perpetrated mass shootings over the last 10 years. They then asked Kirk if he knew how many mass shooters in total America had seen in the last 10 years.

"Counting or not counting gang violence?” Kirk replied.

Video taken at the event shows that, just seconds later, the sound of a gunshot was heard as Kirk appeared to be struck…”

Agree that they must have video images of him by now.

If LE genuinely hasn't id'd him yet, they should have held a press conference to make a public appeal and put all the images/video of him on blast, "if you recognize this person, call, etc."

I'm a bit confused that they don't seem to know yet who they're looking for, but aren't asking the public for help.

Also, I've not seen any reward offers, which is also a bit strange to me, especially with the FBI involved.

It's all weird.

They haven't, but his team wouldn't have been robust enough to have that kind of footprint. Their focus would be on the area around him, as that's where almost all threats are going to come from. They were looking close range as opposed to what this wound up being.

You'd need presidential level security to make that area safe.

CNN is reporting that the suspect who shot Charlie Kirk did so from a university building 200 yards away. If true, that means he was farther away than the Trump assassin in Pennsylvania and farther away than Lee Harvey Oswald was when he shot Kennedy.

FBI appeals to the public for information about the shooting

The FBI’s Salt Lake City office has added an online form to its website where the public can report information about Kirk’s killing on a Utah college campus.

The form says the FBI is “seeking information regarding the shooting at Utah Valley University that took place on September 10, 2025.”

It asks the person submitting the form to include their name and contact information and then there’s a section for information about the incident.

Richard Jewel took his job seriously, but it lead to a bias against him. Truly tragic for him.

"Hunter Brown, a 24-year-old junior at Utah Valley University, was about 10 feet from the stage where Kirk was speaking before an audience at the campus. He said Kirk was talking about shootings by transgender people in response to an audience member’s question when a single gunshot rang out.
“He said there were too many shootings [by transgender people],” Brown said in an interview with the Minnesota Star Tribune. “Then the pop went off "

Thanks for the link, @NuttMegg .

I've listened and re-listened to what was said and it sounded like C.K. was responding to the final question which was about gang violence in general ?
And the answer was, "Too many" referring to the person saying there had been five shootings.

Hunter Brown appeared to agree by saying "Five , I'll give you that (number of )."
Five shootings by any person or group is too many and I think most would agree.

It's like the Star Tribune was not understanding the question and taking Charlie's answer out of context.
Regardless, any murder by a lone killer or a mass shooter is too many.
Imo.

Below is a another link to the question asked and answered :

This is an incredible tragedy. Charlie is a great guy, inside and out, and one of the most influential people in our country among young people. Praying he survives, and prayers for his wife and two young children.
Anyone who has not watched any of his Y/T videos should do so. Amazing debates that he has with college kids. He is so knowledgeable and is able to discuss any subject. I think that the kids really love trying to stump him. I haven't seen one that can, though.

I can tell you that I am truly stunned. They haven't found the shooter. He was lying in wait atop a building 200 yards away, I believe. Charlie was shot with a high powered rifle and didn't have a chance. I believe this was very well planned. I sure hope that this get this guy. There was absolutely no reason for such violence.

I don't know how someone like Charlie will ever be replaced. He leaves behind a wife and two very young children. :'(
