This is the college I graduated from. The campus is built on a hill and all buildings are connected with corridors. You can quite literally walk from level 1 all the way to level 11 of the tallest building on campus.

I graduated from UVU and can speak to the maze of halls that interconnect these buildings together. The campus is on a hill, so you can quite literally be on top of one of these buildings and go down a floor or two and walk through a hallway and be in a completely different building. I would not be surprised if the shooter move from the Losee to exit out the back of the Computer Science building, the highest point on campus. They would then have handful road to pick from to drive away.

During my time at UVU we had a visit from the governor inside the computer science building which is a completely open atrium between floors. He was on the lower floor and I watched from above. No one checked is students for anything suspicious. Security on that campus is pretty well non-existent and the stepped design of campus being on a hill likely gave the shooter a perfect vantage point and exit route.

I personally hope they find this person quickly. It's unnerving living minutes away from campus and having this person hiding somewhere in my community.
Thank you for sharing your personal insights about the campus and the geographical/physical landscape there.

It makes one inclined to think the assassin had a fair level of familiarity with the layout, to be able to navigate around seemingly with ease and undetected.

How long ago was CK's scheduled visit to the campus publicized, does anyone know?
Is this something that had been planned months in advance, or just weeks?
Did Turning Point post CK's scheduled tour stops online?

I think most people would have shot more than once- taken more time, left more evidence... all IMO.

One shot and done. Clearly aimed and targeted for CK. The shooter didn’t miss and need a second shot, and no one in the crowd was hit, as happened last year in Butler when the shooter fired 8 shots in 6 seconds. Trump was grazed and an attendee was killed.

It is sickening that CK was murdered. And incredible that it wasn’t a mass shooting.

Agree that they must have video images of him by now.

If LE genuinely hasn't id'd him yet, they should have held a press conference to make a public appeal and put all the images/video of him on blast, "if you recognize this person, call, etc."

I'm a bit confused that they don't seem to know yet who they're looking for, but aren't asking the public for help.

Also, I've not seen any reward offers, which is also a bit strange to me, especially with the FBI involved.

It's all weird.
It is not odd that no reward has been offered. When have you ever heard of a reward being offered just a few hours after a crime?

I have given this some thought - thinking perhaps the shooter was going for center mass.

Doesn’t a trained sniper go for a head shot? IDK
I'm thinking whoever it was had the confidence in their ability to pull this off. Including a well sighted rifle. JMO

Thanks for your input.
I wonder if this shooter scoped out the buildings, hallways, the whole layout a few times beforehand. I would expect so.
Huge time-consuming task, but it might be helpful to scan all video, show it to staff, to students, to find out if there was an individual no one can recognize.

I’m really concerned that it is someone that had prior access to the building, to scope it out. Had knowledge of where the stage would be placed, etc. Someone from campus. I hope I’m wrong.

I'm hearing from live stream coverage the shooter was not a student and shot from a building?

jmo
Sounds planned well in advance obviously.

i feel certain the shooter scoped it out and planned in advance.

and nothing would surprise me. a little coward with a scope who is afraid of free speech can hide among many.

After the report of that petition by students who didn't want Kirk to speak on campus, I considered a student, experienced with rifles, a hunter possibly.

ABC report states that it was publicized by TPUSA in August; their article links to a TPUSA Events FB post dated 8/27 publicizing the event, so at least 2 weeks ago, if not earlier

Would be surprising if this wasn't the case. The person certainly seemed to know the lay of the land.

From the ^link^ which has live updates:

An individual has reportedly been taken into custody following the shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

According to local sources on X, the suspect was detained shortly after a single gunshot struck Kirk during a student Q&A session hosted by Turning Point USA.
Just beyond tragic, sending my condolences to his family.

I feel like I've got whiplash, from the horrific murder of Iryna Zarutska and now this. Whilst I do not agree with everything Charlie said, no one deserves to be brutally murdered like that.

After today, there will be no more open-air political events or rallies in America.

You can write that down.

Never mind. I just did.
I will disagree. Many politicians won't cower in a corner. The event security will increase a hundredfold. Someone upthread mentioned security drones--they'll be everywhere. And cameras along all routes to the event, see-through purses and backpacks only, and airport-type security to enter. MOO of course.

I honestly do not believe that student folks who don’t agree with a particular speaker on campus and prepare and sign a petition to say why, are the shooter type - quite the opposite.

But very, very few people would want something like this to happen.

Agreed, it definitely seemed a little too rehearsed

Yes, you should not need to say you disagree with a bullet. Never.

That was quite the shot. Incredibly skilled.

Definitely targeted. I don’t think there’s any question of that. He wanted to kill Charlie. He took 1 shot. Mission Accomplished.

He either had military training or he’s been out at the gun range practising a lot.

Someone knows who did it or at least has suspicions.

Also agree that he was on campus earlier, formulating his plan. He should show up on security cameras prior to the murder.
