Charlton Heston Dies at Beverly Hills Home

The man died after suffering from Alzheimer's for years, so I highly doubt it. That wasn't funny, imo.
HI Idaho. I think that was one of Heston's own statements regarding gun control. Something about prying a rifle from his dead hands. I assumed that was what Floh was referring to.

Well, I thought that same comment about him...just didn't post it. He was very adamant about his rights to bear arms. I didn't think the comment was *that* bad. He probably would have liked it, I think!

Just like that crazy guy in Michigan...former (or still a) rock star...what's his name? He's gun crazy, and I bet he'll have one on his headstone!

OK, sorry, O/T.

Heston answered his critics in a now-famous pose that mimicked Moses' parting of the Red Sea. But instead of a rod, Heston raised a flintlock over his head and challenged his detractors to pry the rifle "from my cold, dead hands."

Neither was his speech. :(

I didn't think so, either. Rude, in fact.

RIP, Charlton. He was one of the ones you wish could live forever. A legend.

He gloried in his guns.

I thought it was a reasonable question given the circumstances. I wondered the same thing. Floh could very well have meant her question seriously - she, unlike you, did not put any sarcastic smileys to indicate otherwise.

And even if she did, Mr. Heston put himself out there far and wide publicly about his views on guns - that makes him fair game. (no pun intended)

Thank you. i really wasn't being sarcastic or i would have added a smile or two.

I have to go with you on this one. Maybe I'm just mean and disrespectful, but I wondered the same thing as Floh and you. He put himself in the position of hardened gun owner and I really don't think a bit of dark humor is out and out disrespectful. Floh didn't say anything seriously offensive as far as I'm concerned. Then again, I developed a dark sense of humor long ago.

I appreciate you for not thinking i was being mean. thank you.

Yes it was, JBean. thanks for pointing it out.

LOL Tm, are you talking about Ted Nuggent? Nothing wrong with the right to bear arms IMO. Card Carrying member of the NRA here:blowkiss: Back to the topic...I am sorry to hear of his passing, however...I cannot imagine living in the advanced stages of the Alzheimer's curse. I have a great Aunt and her hubby who are both institutionalized with it.

My dearest Chicoliving,:blowkiss:

Thank-you so much for the thread.

Two nights a week I caregiver for a woman with Alzheimer's that I have known for many years. I just watched the movie "The Ten Commandments" starring Mr. Heston at her home over Easter weekend.

I am sorry to hear about his passing.

So much Love and Respect for you,

Have to agree with you and IM... I thought it was rude too.

RIP Charlton
I distinctly remember him making the statement in a right to bear arms ralley...."They can have my guns when they pry them from my cold dead fingers." I don't find it rude.

I think he would have loved it. i'm sure he didn't want to be remembered for his Alzheimer's. just as i try to remain respectful in my memory of the THREE close family members i have had who suffered from Alzheimer's and remember them at their brightest and best. not the horrific final years which destroyed the essence of their beings.

Yes, that's him! He's crazy! In a funny way.

I don't own a gun, but might get one for protection once the kids are out of the house.

ANYWAY, that's a whole new thread, isn't it?!

Alzheimers can go on for years and years and it seems it progressed rapidly for him.

The early stages of Alzheimer can last for years until symptoms become obvious; personality changes is one telltale sign of early senile dementia but quite often these are blamed on "getting old" by the patient's entourage. In Heston's case within a few years his personality migrated from a sociable, even-mooded, likeable if somewhat annoyingly Liberal persona to an ultra-conservative gun-wielding and sometimes foul-mouthed paranoid recluse subject to frequent wide mood swings, a completely different man from what he had been all his life and this allowed the more radical "militia" faction of the NRA to manipulate him as they attempted to dictate the Association's agenda through him. Fortunately this didn't work since Heston's position in the NRA was basically symbolic and he had little influence on the leadership and actual management. That makes me believe Heston had been dealing with the onset of the disease for a long time.

Same sentiments here.

He was such a handsome and upright gentleman.
