A Chicago pastor is under fire for telling a person he said was dressed in "drag" during a Sunday night worship service to leave the church and "go put on man clothes."

A video posted to Facebook shows pastor Antonio Rocquemore of Power House International Ministries addressing an unidentified person in the audience.

"Can you leave my church and go put on man clothes? And don't come here like that no more," Rocquemore says in the video. "I hold a standard in here. Whatever you do on the outside is your business, but I will not let drag queens come in here."

The audience appeared to be heard shouting "amen" and "Jesus" before breaking into applause.

"I don't do no bashin', because everybody is strugglin' with something. But what I'm not gonna do is allow you to disrespect the house of God -- I can't do it," he says at the end of the video.

Parishioner kicked out of South Side church for dressing in drag

'Come back dressed like a man.' Pastor recounts his confrontation with person dressed in 'drag' on Facebook Live.

"And if you're gonna come in here you're gonna come in here dressed like a man .... If you're a man, dress like a man. If you're a woman, dress like a woman. I'm not going to allow it. My salvation is more important, and God is holding me accountable," he added. "... you will not be wearing weaves and heels and fooling people up in here."

This case is close to home for me because I have a trans friend (MTF). A lot of people that have met her for the first time thought she was dressed in drag and I very quickly correct them! Call her 'she'. That's why this case bothered me so much. That when people that aren't usually around trans people assume they are just in drag. I also can't understand why some people refuse to call trans people by their preferred gender.

It disgusts me that the church audience was cheering when the pastor asked them to leave. Just awful! I can't imagine being publicly shamed like that for just being myself. What if this person was starting to transition? It breaks my heart!

The person wasn't a man as the reports state, he was a 16 year old teen! Why did the mass reports not mention that he was a teen?

About 20 activists gathered Nov. 18 at Power House International Ministries, 7040 S. Western Ave., during the Sunday evening service to protest Rev. Antonio Rocquemore's removal of a 16-year-old gay teenager, Antwan Haywood, from the congregation last Sunday, Nov. 11.

During the protest, Haywood explained that Rocquemore ejected him because of the way he was dressed the previous weekend—checkered button down shirt, black jeans and black boots with wedge heels. Haywood was also pulled aside by one of the police officers, who told him he was getting too loud with his protest chants.

WWJD. I stopped attending organized religious services because it seemed like a fashion show, you were supposed to wear certain clothes. Heaven forbid a woman would attend church in pants.

My Mother works in Las Vegas, and told me that that the way people dress now, she really has no clue if they are male or female. And it matters little to her anyway. She is just not sure what directions to give if they ask for where the restroom is...

No one should be bullied or shamed based on how they dress.

Checked shirt, black jeans, and boots? Sounds like he was kicked out for being nicely dressed. I still think it's bigotry on the side of the church.

I had that same reaction to the description of his clothing. The wedge heeled boots is what caused this pastor to publicly embarrass him? I wear men's shoes and flannels all the time. No one bats an eye if women wear men's clothes.

My favorite shoes are a pair of 1920s bespoke Gucci boy's loafers I found at a thrift shop. Pure comfort and class! I'm a woman who also has been known to wear a man's business jacket as well as frilly feminine frocks.

What a horrible experience. Every one of the people in that church should be ashamed. I can't imagine coming to church to worship and fill my soul with "goodness" only to be made a spectacle of by a "man of God" and the entire congregation.

"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus." Galatians 3:28. I'm not even Christian and I know that Jesus wouldn't turn someone away from church for how they dress. Terrible.

I could walk into my church in pajamas and my pastor would never kick me out. This is sad.

"Can you leave my church"

When I was growing up, this would have been a huge red flag. We were taught the church belongs to God, not a man. moo
