The Chicago Rippers or Ripper Crew consisted of 4 perpetrators who sadistically tortured, murdered, and cannibalized 17 women in the Chicago area in the early 1980s. Robin Gecht, Andrew Kokoraleis, Thomas Kokoraleis, and Edward Spreitzer kidnapped women before ritualistically murdering them, sometimes keeping them captive for days. The murders allegedly happened in numerous different places-outside, in Gecht’s “satanic temple” in his attic, or at a motel in Villa Park where the motel manager knew them as “some kind of cult” who rented out rooms next to each other.
Only 5 of the alleged 17 victims have been identified. I’m unsure if LE knows who the other victims are or not. There were also women who miraculously survived, including Beverly Washington, who was found mutilated on the railroad tracks on October 6, 1982. She was able to identify Gecht and the van they used to abduct her, leading to their arrests. I’m also unsure if the surviving victims are being counted with the total number of victims?
Andrew Kokoraleis was sentenced to death. Robin Gecht and Edward Spreitzer are currently incarcerated. Thomas Kokoraleis was released from prison in 2019 and is a free man.
I’ve tried to research this case to identify the other victims without much luck. However, I was able to find an out of print book written by Chicago PO Jaye Fletcher, Deadly Thrills: The True Story of Chicago’s Most Shocking Killers. The book gives more detail than I have found thus far. I compiled a list of victims, some still unknown but with specific details/dates I’m going to post below. It would be really cool if the victims could be identified some day.
(1) Linda Sutton (28 years old) - 5/23/1981
(2) UNKNOWN - Black female hitchhiker - 7/1/1981 - Picked up near North Avenue and Route 83
“The second killing took place on July 1, 1981, slightly over one month after the murder of Linda Sutton. The defendant and Gecht picked up a black female hitchhiker near North Avenue and Route 83. She took some pills and became "spacey." Gecht then drove to a cemetery where he parked, pulled the woman out of the car, and struck her twice with a baseball bat. Five minutes later, Gecht returned to the van with the bat and with one of the woman's breasts. The identity of this woman is unknown”
(3) UNKNOWN - Black Female hitchhiker - 8/1981
“The third killing took place in August of 1981. Gecht gave the defendant a ride to Winchell's Donuts to pick up the defendant's paycheck. They saw a black female hitchhiker. Gecht told the defendant to get into the rear of the van. Gecht picked the hitchhiker up and drove to a forest preserve. He stopped the car, and tapped twice on the floor of the van. The defendant then left the van through the rear door, taking a knife and a pair of handcuffs with him. Meeting Gecht at the front passenger door, he gave the knife and handcuffs to Gecht, who put the handcuffs on the woman. Gecht told the defendant to stay near the van while he took the woman into a wooded area. As the defendant sat in the van, he saw Gecht knock the woman down. Five minutes later, Gecht returned to the van with one of the woman's breasts. The identity of this woman is also unknown.”
(4) UNKNOWN cocktail waitress - press was asked to not report one breast was amputated
(5) UNKNOWN Hispanic woman
(6) Lorraine A Borowski (21 years old) - abducted in the parking lot of her work between 7:50-8AM, 5/15/1982
(7) Shui Mak -abducted while walking home aft. getting out of the car to walk due to an argument with her brother following work. 5/29/1982
(8) Sandra Delaware (18 years old) -Found 8/27/1982
(9) Rose Beck Davis (30 years old)-murdered after a night out with friends, found in an alleyway. 9/7/1982
The last known attacks occurred 10/6/1982 and 10/20/1982 (both survived).
I am attaching pictures of the victims in order. The last pic is allegedly Ripper Crew victims, but I’m unsure if it is legitimate and it is very low quality/hard to read the names, and I have been unable to locate the original source for that photo.
