So, what does this mean for cases where Butts performed the autopsy? Does he testify after he retires? In the NC case Dr. Simmons was also listed on the autopsy report. Would he testify instead?

If he is summons to appear in court on this case, his retirement will hold no bearing..Only if they pass away will they not be summond
