Child safe as police seek 2 suspects following shooting, carjacking in Mississauga - CityNews Toronto
July 24 2020
''Peel police are searching for two suspects after a shooting and brazen carjacking in Mississauga on Friday night.

Police say they were attempting to make an arrest in the area of Burnamthorpe Road and Brickstone Mews near Confederation Parkway around 7 p.m. when someone began shooting at police.

Police say they returned fire “to protect themselves.”

One of four suspects then rammed a tactical vehicle with their own car before attempting to flee on foot, at which point they commandeered a black pick up with an 8-year-old girl inside.

Eyewitness video sent to CityNews appears to show the moment of the carjacking. In it, two people are forced out of a black pick up truck which then speeds away.

“Police, police, police,” someone is heard yelling as officer’s who were at one end of the street begin to converge on the scene.

“My daughter is in the car! My daughter is in the car,” a visibly upset man is then heard yelling as at least a half dozen police cars go chasing after the vehicle. “Please stop this guy.”

''Peel police have arrested two people and are looking for two others after shots were fired at officers and a vehicle with a child inside was carjacked on Friday evening.''

He says an eight-year-old girl was thrown from the stolen vehicle but had no serious physical injuries.''

''Police say the suspects were wanted in connection with multiple robberies in the GTA.

Officers have requested help from the York Regional Police helicopter in their search for the suspects, who fled the scene on foot.''

''Police are looking for a suspect who they describe as a black male, standing five-foot-eight to six-feet tall, with a medium build.

He was wearing a white tank top, a gold headcloth covering and a crystal-like earring.

Officers say the suspect was last seen leaving the building wearing just white ankle socks and no shoes.''

What do you mean?

There is a push to hide the identity of suspects. COPS & LIVE PD have been forced off the air. Also, there is a move to have media quit using mugshots in their articles. Thus making it more difficult to post photos.

Actually, it's mugshot galleries that are increasingly being eliminated. And using victim's mugshots. As for crime reporting:

Exceptions can include when a suspect is arrested and accused of committing capital murder, corruption by public officials or crimes involving a breach of public trust. And, we’ll use them when a search is ongoing after a violent crime or in unusual instances when the mugshot is of compelling public interest.

AL.com to end publishing most mugshots in stories

The real reason crime shows & newspapers are ending shows and not posting photos. This paper goes so far as to say they won't even post drawings of suspects. This will make it hard to discuss suspects on websleuths if we can't know anything about them.

From your link:
Their publication can have a permanent damaging effect on individuals and communities.

For example, it’s not always reported when a suspect arrested on suspicion of a crime is later released, acquitted by a jury or pleads guilty to a charge of lesser severity. Yet the mugshot of that person in police custody remains.
...
The Bee’s policy includes limited exceptions, such as booking photos of public figures; photos of suspected serial killers; cases in which there is an immediate and widespread threat to public safety; and those suspected of hate crimes.

I have no problem with that. We'll see the picture if the person is still on the loose and dangerous. And we can sleuth without a picture.

Thanks for the link.
''The Sacramento Bee announced Wednesday it will limit the publication of police booking photos, surveillance photos and videos of alleged crimes, and composite sketches of suspects provided by law enforcement agencies.

Publishing these photographs and videos disproportionately harms people of color and those with mental illness, while also perpetuating stereotypes about who commits crime in our community.''

Bingo. Protect the perps. Punish the victims by making it harder to find the perps.
