Dear Lord:

Please keep those in Oklahoma safe and warm and away from falling trees. Please give them light and warmth in their hearts until electricity is restored.

We thank you for all blessings.
Thank you, LittleDeer! What a nice prayer. : )

It's 20 degrees where I'm at and I have a newer well insulated house. I can feel the could coming through the walls. If my power went out right now, my house would be a freezer real quick. I can't imagine what people are going through with no power. SS, I am glad you are ok and thawing out.

Man, we just had a 3 hour power loss here in Ohio where I live, and there is NO STORM going on.

I did hear a lot of sirens going on, so I can only assume a car must have hit a pole somewhere. The power came back on, and SS, I can't even imagine how cold you got with the time you had no power!!!!!

Suzi: We just put up new siding on our house this summer, but I swear it feels no warmer in this house than last year when we had the old siding! It is cold outside!! brrrrrrrrr.

Littledeer, and I hear everyone east of me is supposed to get slammed with snowstorms today?

East of where Suzi?? (meaning are you in the North Pole or what?) :)

I was trying to put up a thread about the ice storm in Current Events when my power went out! I had warned my "buddy" here that it could happen so she could let people know if they asked.

I hope your buddy is ok, SS! I asked about you on the other thread from when you were sick a few months ago, as well as the Peterson forum somewhere. I remembered you had a buddy and was hoping to hear from them.

A few of us figured it was because of the ice storm though. I'm glad you are o.k.

We are waiting too for the supposedly huge snowstorm coming our way. Last time "they" told us 8" was due we got NOTHING! Boy, the kids were looking forward to snowdays and everything. lol This time we are stocking up on some necessities and not getting all excited.

  • #68
Not getting excited here either Taxi!! We have gone through too many weather reports of "and ladies and gentlemen", the big "lake snow effect" will soon be dumping up to 8 inches to 12 inches of snow.

Only to see 1 to 3 inches of snow.

IMO, when they say "ladies and gentlemen", we are expecting 3 to 4 inches of snow, will I hunker down!!! LOL

OK, I am thawed out enough to type again. LOL Now...where are we on this case?! I have not had power...so no news from any sources!! I guess I will have plenty of catching up to do later this evening. I feel I have been gone a year.

Good to see ya SS!

Well, the snow left Colorado early this morning. Woke up to a sunny sky and cold temperatures. We have this bad habit of sending the weather eastward. It seems to get worse after it leaves here. We got about 4 to 6 inches out of it. But, the cold is still here. Amazing that it can get up to 24 and then the sun starts to set and it's dropped 10 degrees by the time you get home. We have one of those compass/themometer thingys on the truck mirror. Hear that those of you toward the East are getting lots more snow than we had. Good news is the weather here is supposed to be free of snow for at least the next 7 days.

If we lose power here, we're ok. We have plenty of wood from old fence posts that were replaced this Spring for the wood store and a full propane tank. That means we can have hot water, cook on the propane/gas stove and stay warm. Tons of books and magazines here haven't been read. We'll read by antique oil lamps if necessary. It's the BarnGod's pioneer heritage.

BarnGoddess:

Have you ever considered sending the weather you get to the WEST instead of the EAST??

lol :):)

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. There are times I wish we'd get more moisture. I'll take another of last year's blizzards as long as I can protect my livestock. We've been in a drought worse than Georgia is now for a number of years. Just not getting the rain we need. Seems in the Spring and Summer the storms form over the Rockies and move west. Frequently they pass right over us and start dumping over Kansas and beyond toward the East.

See what getting a full tank of propane and plenty of firewood and lamp oil does? Nada.

Great to see you, too, Chico!!

I have wonderful news! The crews have gotten power back on at my house and I will be heading home in a couple of days. (Going to let the house really warm up before I go back!! LOL)

A little cow-town west of Salt Lake City. It's funny to hear you all talk about snow days, they don't do them in Utah...no matter what. We have a foot of snow, but the roads have been cleared.

Our road crews don't have the manpower or equipment neccessary to clear our roads immediately. It takes sometimes a week to get to secondary streets. People here don't know how to drive in the ice or snow either which means you literally risk your life going out! We have so many accidents, LE puts into effect a program called "Operation Slick Streets" which means they will not respond to any accident unless there is an injury. You are on your own to file reports and get information from the other driver.
