Clay Aiken's airplane spat

That is his BROTHER!

There is some controversy as to whether that is true, but I didn't say they were sleeping together. I said straight men haven't worn Speedos since the 80s.

If that isn't good enough for you, check out the link and the photo of Martin trying to throw a ball.

(All kidding aside, I don't actually care. What is more important is that Ricky Martin has spoken up on behalf of gay rights and gay people on more than one occasion. (And doing so doesn't make him gay, just a good guy.))

No controversy, it's his brother.

Bahaahaa. I like you, I really do, but we're being silly and taking this too far. Truce on Ricky's sexuality, neither of us will be able to convince the other and what for anyway?

You are absolutely right and obviously a more mature person than I.

Now excuse me while I go look for more photos where Ricky Martin looks gay.

I wonder why people don't scrutinize women celebrities all the time to discern gayness or straightness. I know we do Rosie, but she announced it and is in your face with her adopted children and everything else.

Someone like Ann Hecht is pretty well ignored, allthough she did go straight after being gay.

I would sure hate to walk down the street or be in a magazine and people constantly whisper, "do you suppose she's gay or straight???" like they do to Tom Cruise.

Just wondring; just seems like we don't talk about women as much that way.

I thought Ricky Martin was really cute with great music and moves when he came out. I was suprised when I heard he was gay. Too bad for women, or a woman. Oh well.

I wish people would just come out with it, not hide it - I'd really like to know about Tom Cruise, and others. I guess some are just plain bisexual and that's why we'll never know.

 Rock on. Any pic of Ricky is a good pic. And his brother, just as yummy. That DNA needs cloned.

I agree that Rosie O'Donnell is "in your face," but invoking her children isn't fair. How many pictures have we seen of the Jolie/Pitt kids? Of Suri Cruise? Rosie's kids aren't in our faces any more than lots of celebrity children and less than some. And this isn't new: off the top of my head, I can name Shirley Jones' kids and Judy Garlands' children, etc. and so forth. (Obviously, it helps when the kids have show biz careers of their own.)

But to your question re our greater interest in gay male celebrities. That shouldn't surprise us because the culture in general is more interested in gay men than gay women.

This is because, in the first place, our culture as a whole is more interested in what men do. No surprise there.

Moreover, straight men stand at the top of our pyramid of social privilege. Gay men are controversial to us because by being gay, they relinquish some of their privilege. This is both threatening to us and endlessly fascinating.

Of course, we're talking of straight WHITE men. You'll notice we hear very little about gay men of color. That's because they are accorded less automatic privilege on account of their skin color, so their being gay has less impact.

Likewise, gay women don't threaten our conceptions of social standing, because by being women, they aren't as privileged in the first place.

All of this is in very broad cultural terms only, of course. If the gay woman is your sister or mother (or wife!), her gayness may be very important to you.

And this doesn't mean gay women somehow have it easier in daily life. They have fewer civil rights, just as gay men. As women, they may be greater targets of violence, as women in our culture tend to be. And economically, lesbian couples tend to be disadvantaged because there is no male wage earner with his statistically higher rate of pay.

Actually, Ricky Martin looks rather ordinary next to his alleged (;)) half-brother. But I'll let you collect the DNA. They're both too young for me.

Very good explanation, thanks.

I'm just really tired - I didn't mean the adoption was a bad thing out front - but just part the the "outing", she was orgininally very proud and outspoken about her adoptees (I think a boy was first); she was proud of being single and adopting. Doesn't bother me at all.

I think I need to go take a nap pronto.

I just wanted to clarify, Martha. You didn't say anything bad about the way she raises her kids. (I think she made a point of publicizing her adoptions because she knows this is still a difficult issue for gays in some states. It's not just that gays can't adopt strangers; thanks to our laws, some gay parents aren't even related to their OWN kids and yet are prevented from adopting them. As you know. Sorry. Didn't mean to lecture.)

I need a nap, too, but not because of your post, my friend. :)

Some (very) straight men DO wear Speedos. Unfortunately (for me), my brother is one of them. I chalk it up to the fact that a large portion of his military career was spent in Europe. Ugh - whatever. I hate that Speedo, but he loves it.

I, personally, am sick of all the celebrity gay/straight talk. I really could not care less WHO any of them sleep with - as long as they entertain me while they're on stage, or on the screen, or whatever - I'm a happy fan.

I think you know me well enough that I would never purposely hurt your feelings.

And I think I know you well enough that you would never hurt mine. I might scratch my head a little trying to figure our your meaning; but that's OK.:waitasec: :blowkiss:

Me neither. It's not something I think about alot. This is weird, but I'm very uncomfortable if I see a man in a speedo. I guess I'm old-fashioned but it just shows to many "outlines". I would much rather see a man in swim trunks.

I'm like, "are you getting ready to compete in the Olympics or something?"

I think alot of women's suits should be more modest too.

I'm uncomfortable with women wearing thongs. I would never. In all my days I won't be going to a nudist beach. But that's just me. However, I'm also of the mindset, it you're gonna do it, you better have the body to pull it off. :o

I think men should wear Speedos, but only if I get to pick the men.

Nor I. And that's vanity, not modesty.

Actually, I live in one of the nudist "centers" of the country. Around here, you're lucky if the guy wears a Speedo. :D

No kidding...there's a few I wouldn't mind seeing in a Speedo....but most, usually the ones who would wear one...

I am too. It just doesn't blend with the culture I was brought up in. I've always believed women are much more attractive if they "accent" the attributes rather than bare it all.

I'm just "too old", I guess - I believe in looking attractive, but modest. How can you even talk to a man if you're at a lake party, and he's just staring at your 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 and walking around to see your butt?
