"The man who was arrested in Arkansas for the murders at Devils Den State Park was a teacher for Broken Arrow Public Schools during the 23/24 school year. He was a 5th grade teacher at Spring Creek Elementary during the 23/24 school year and left of his own accord to work out of state. As with all employees hired by the district, he was subjected to and passed the legally required background checks prior to being hired. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family affected by this unimaginable act of violence."

WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS, Ark. — Andrew McGann, the 28-year-old man arrested in connection with the murder of a husband and wife at Devil's Den State Park, has a history as an educator and was most recently hired on at Springdale Public Schools (SPS).

A statement from SPS Superintendent Dr. Jared Cleveland said McGann was a teacher hired for the upcoming school year but had not officially begun his employment yet.

"Oklahoma State Department of Education records said McGann had a standard elementary education certificate for grades first through eighth that went into effect May 2022 and expires June 2027.

Arkansas State Board Education documents reflect that McGann has a standard teaching certificate for early childhood education, elementary, middle school math, middle school English, middle school social studies, middle school science, and English as a second language. The license went into effect October 2024 and is valid until December 2028.

McGann also was a certified educator in Texas, with an expiration date set for August 2028."

It seems to be current. Looks like he applied for his AR teacher license in 2024.

Yes, there is a news source (linked upthread) that shows his Arkansas license started October 2024. So, at the beginning of last school year, he was making plans to move to Arkansas for this school year.

Not sure what to make of that, but I admit my thoughts are not kind ones. Did he make sure he had the next job lined up, which gave him some free reign in the current job to mess up?

It does make me think he was particularly vicious in Devil's Den because if he got caught, then he'd lose his job. He had to prevent that, so killed rather than just run away. (Which, of course, was a stupid decision, but he made a series of stupid decisions).

The address listed on the detention site actually says “Pine Crust,” but that doesn’t exist. I think the address you linked is probably correct.

George Park alone would have given him access to wooded trails, and it’s always busy there with soccer and baseball games. That area is also really close to multiple elementary and middle schools, plus the School of Innovation.

It’s so scary, especially since I have kids in school near there. This just hits way too close to home.

Playing devil's advocate , and thinking what if completely un connected to targeting kids, and instead just an anti-social personality (hence the changes in jobs, clashes with management etc., strong opinions on everything etc.) , could it be race hate, as someone earlier alluded to the other couple in New Hampshire targeted potentially as a hate crime against bi racial couples (the mother in this instance appears perhaps Spanish/Mexican/Not sure just guessing)?

Went with this theory for a bit in my mind, but the cat being named Khan then doesn't fit .....

Maybe we will never know re motive if the mum was reportedly heard saying as alluded to on this thread 'why are you doing this' , also do we know the source for the reported quote ?
