I'm in the UK where Rugby is common in schools, but is it a common sport in schools in the USA? Or would you need to attend a more specialist school to play it?

My son played in college. No, it's not a common sport here in USA at all. You don't have to go to a special school to play, but not all colleges have a team.

When my son played, rugby was considered a club sport rather than one of the big sports for the school.

It's tough sport!

I live in the town where he went to high school. No, rugby isn't a common high school sport here, esp not in the public schools. The public school here doesn't have a team. The sister school to Fenwick is a town over and also has rugby there.

I read that he graduated from college in Oklahoma, I can’t remember if it was Oklahoma State or University of Oklahoma.
Both have rugby teams, so maybe he played in college after high school.

Someone wondered about head injury playing rugby, yeah I think so. I don’t know a lot about rugby but I’ve played flag football and even it can become a contact sport. I can’t imagine rugby.

That’s correct but when getting his AR licensure in October 2024 he still had to go through the full background check, child maltreatment, and finger printing.

It appears his last “Employability Check” for AR was done on July 15 2025 and the status is “Under Review”

Does that mean July 15 was his hire date? That is when the paperwork would have been submitted for the background check?

I’m asking because a midsummer hire is kinda late.
That would give me stress to be taking a job with less than one month before school starts.

It's called "indifference" and the runner doesn't get credit for the stolen base
This arrest/apprehension/capture fits neatly into that category
Perp/suspect/murderer indifference

So, not only did he not want to continue his rampage
He wanted to get caught

So sad he couldn't have arrived at that line of thinkng
prior to Saturday afternoon

It seems he either wanted to get caught
Saw the writing on the wall and so gave in and let fate prevail
Or tried and simply isn’t a good murderer after all

I would think even janitors are vetted to not have any violet crimes in their past and certainly no child related crimes. I was sure he must have had some criminal history, but maybe he did not, or it was minor things that wouldn't prevent him from working at a school.

As a Oklahoma substitute teacher, I can tell you that an extensive background check was done on me!!! I'm honestly wondering if having credentials to be a teacher means no background check is thought to be necessary!

Ha ha I went to College in Arkansas in the 70s and there were some guys from Rhodesia who started rugby on campus. If not for them, I doubt anyone would have heard of rugby.

He graduated from OK ST at Tulsa, which is not the flagship with the football team, etc, or any other sports teams. That's Stillwater.

If he was never arrested and did not have a substantiaed complaint on the central registry, his record would be clean.
I also wonder if he may have been hired at a job fair and then assigned a school.
I'm pissed like so many others. The complaints of showing extra attention wasn't enough to fire him, but someone could have said he wasn't able to return to their school because of concerns about unfair treatment of students. I wonder how many references are called or is it merely a form sent by webmail.

Yes, the head of state police said they determined the exact type of vehicle and examined all ownership records, found his name - obviously a top suspect - and within the hour saw the vehicle outside the salon. They arrested him on the basis of the cut marks on him. IMO then he admitted to the crime so they went ahead and charged him.

I think determining the exact make and model of the car would have involved high tech manipulation of the various videos available, sent through FBIs experts and databases on matching vehicles.

My first thoughts upon seeing the first released headshot of him, was that he looked like a football player and might have got hit on the head too many times.

rugby is like football but no helmets or padding, and more like soccer with continuous play.

Depends on which state you are in. I went to school in Virginia. Women's rugby was a club sport there, and we played other rugby clubs around the state. I didn't know of any rugby teams of any sort in my home state of PA. Of course, this was a few hundred years ago.

It is haunting how deeply *angry* his expression is in so many pics. Im hoping those who've known him before his teaching years will find Websleuths and give us a glimpse of his earlier years. He seems like such a loner but may actually have a rich "other life" in his mind or online. The report of his cold clipped one word answers to parents of students who tried to converse with him might indicate he was *somewhere else" in his own mind while working.
A man assaulted me once at a Walmart & the stare in his eyes was like he was playing a video in his mind & almost unaware of even being inside a Walmart store. He turned out to be BTK the serial killer (i was soooo lucky that day) and he later said that's exactly what he did in his mind when stalking each woman. I'd like to know if Andy McGann fantasized so much he was nearly dysfunctional at his schools and also what happened that made him walk around so angry and off-putting. Angry to timid might be a regular pendulum swing for him? Keeping company at lunch with little girls in his classrooms might be his "social scene" comfort zone and if so, yeah, I'm guessing we'll see his attorney come out swinging with a tbi defense. It could be why he cant/hasn't been able to keep a job more than a year. There are tons of ways in which tbi can render one incompetent in each of the jobs he's had.

I watched the presser. The prosecuting attorney said he wasn't aware if the defendant had retained a private lawyer yet or if he would utilize someone from the public defender's office. Regardless, he doesn't know any defense lawyer who would let their client plead guilty at an initial hearing (even if the defendant has already admitted to the murders to LE).

Depending on the circumstances of the admission (like if it was made without a lawyer being present), I assume the defense could try and get it ruled inadmissible in court?
