That part of it’s just so sad.

I feel it must’ve been a scuffle first and the knife got branded later - I just feel if my husband was under attack knife attack and I had two young children with me hed want me to run with them. I wouldn’t return to scene until I knew I was safe

Vice versa if I was under attack and he could get my children to safety I’d want him to run.
From what I've heard and read so far, it was an ambush where AM immediately stabbed Clinton or at least appeared to stab Clinton ... no initial scuffle reported.

I noticed there has been a tremendous outpouring of assistance on behalf of Clinton and Cristen and their two children. The goal has been almost entirely met in less than 3 days. Resources will be used for funerals of Clinton and Cristen and to help the children get cared for.

I'm guessing the citizens of Arkansas and elsewhere have been shocked and sickened by what happened to a family who just moved to the state to start a new life, and are trying to help out in whatever way they can.

2014 recap of a game, bbm

"Two days after arriving in Ireland, Fenwick Friars RFC from Oak Park, Illinois, opened their three-game overseas tour with a match up against the prominent St. Michaels College club in Dublin....

Fenwick started with a limited squad of 17 players with three starters still recovering from prior injuries and unable to play including senior fullback Mike Kelly, senior number eight Ryan Smith and junior prop Andy McGann."

Interesting! I wonder what the injury was. I've personally had some major, surgery-required, long-term rehab sports injuries and I can say my sense of self and overall mental state was never worse than in those times.

911 call from the Visitor Center says the kids reported an assault and possible stabbing of their parents.

That means they saw at least a portion of the attack on their dad, and in that portion it looked like he might have been stabbed.

Then the press conference from the police said AM ambushed the father.

I can find no evidence of him officially playing rugby anywhere except the statement from his alleged teammate.
My favorite thing to do in my free time is exercise, specifically, running. I played football, baseball, and rugby in high school so I love sports. I have heard there are some runners in the dolphin family so show me where the good trails are at since I’m in need of a go-to running trail.

Yes, I have been hunting for confirmation of those things beyond his own statement -- box scores, photos, rosters, running event times, etc and haven't had much success.

This is the school where he had the insane looking photo ID. Also reported that he quit after the first day.

This truly seems like a guy who couldn’t even fake it anymore. Not even long enough to smile for the camera. Not long enough to last more than a day at this school.

I’m surprised the school even allowed that I.D. to be printed without demanding that he retake the picture. He looks ferocious.

The straight hair mugshot was first. His hair matches the arrest videos released from the salon. The “nose pimple” looks like a healing cut if you zoom in on a good image of it. There are also some marks on his forehead. That mugshot was just hours after the first. The press released it as “new mugshot.” Looks like a curly haired guy took a shower and exposed marks on his face that had been covered by makeup. Witness accounts said he had blood on his face in the park that day.
I think I’m supposed to say this is MY OPINION about the make up. My first post. I joined because this case is local to me and I’m hopelessly deep diving. :)
The hairdresser said she was in the process of cutting his hair when LE arrived and I figured that must be why the straight hair thing was going on.
BBM

AM entered the salon with his hair combed forward and parted in the center:

Which is exactly as it appeared in the first booking photo for the Washington County Sheriff (as @Xlady said):

IMO, this is what naturally curly hair might look like after spending hours pressed under a tight-fitting baseball hat on a hot, humid summer day.

In the video, Hairstylist recounts Devil’s Den Murder Suspect Arrest, Adriana Ruiz said:

He was always with his head down, long hair covering his face.
He didn’t want anything cut from the top of his head. He wanted to hide his face.

So the stylist likely left the top part of AM’s hair alone, and simply shaved the bottom in the few minutes before he was arrested.

The second booking photo was taken after AM’s natural curl returned—likely due to a shower, as Xlady and others suggested:

Note that AM had a similar haircut in this photo taken for his first full-time teaching job in Texas:

“I saw him at school events, and he looked charismatic,” Polyak said of McGann. “He looked like the kids enjoyed being around him, that they flocked to him.”

Polyak said there were “red flags,” such as her 10-year-old mentioning McGann liked to “play tag at recess, he plays Truth or Dare with the girls.

“And then I start hearing these things like he’s giving out candy. He gives candy out in class, but really, it’s for the girls.”

Before McGann was caught, I thought this scenerio was a possibility. The girls ran ahead of their parents and were out of sight on the trail. AG was lurking somewhere in the vicinity and he was caught/confronted by Clinton - who had sensed something was not right about his intentions. An attack ensued and Clinton was stabbed. When Cristen returned, she was a witness who couldn't live to identify him.

I still think as the investigation continues, this could be the case. The girls just didn't fully comprehend what was happening. He's obviously got a thing for little girls that age, that's been proven.

Confirmation he played rugby was posted upthread, and here's football, bbm

"A Fenwick spokesperson told CBS News Chicago that legally, and per school policy, they are unable to discuss any aspect of a student's records without written consent or a subpoena. But McGann's senior yearbook photo is seen in Fenwick's 2015 yearbook. A photo from 2012 also shows him on the football team."

For running, that can be an individual hobby if he didn't run at school. imo

Presser

Investigations take time. Cannot give out information that will hinder the investigation.
This seems bogus if they have him. No reason not to share.

All I can say is that I spent some time on this and could not find hard independent evidence that he was an active, healthy, on the field participant in any sport beyond his freshman year of high school, either in a school context or in a community context. Others may find other things. It doesn't matter, imo, except that he portrayed himself later as a mega jock, and imo he wasn't involved enough to be at high risk for CTE.

Arkay I was saying exactly this to my partner yesterday: how could ANY school allow that ID card to be created and worn by a staff member? It's blows my mind - the guy looks unhinged in that photo.

I can find no evidence of him officially playing rugby anywhere except the statement from his alleged teammate.
He played on the Illinois Tornados Rugby team which is a team that plays international matches against rugby teams from all over the world.

Here is a post by the team in 2014 acknowledging AM as an injured player.

And here is the team's website indicating the program is for elite top players in the state.

Thank you.

I do not want to ameliorate his alleged crimes. He needs to be securely away from anyone he can ever harm again

Like BK, I would want to know if there is some organic disease underlying his behavior, because there sure seems to be a plague of lethally psychotic people out there who have a veneer of function but end up going very far beyond norms, and really pose terrifying hazards to people. I would want to try to know if we can ever identify a cause and correct this stuff in any way.

Again, no sympathies for his actions, but the dense underlying net of the drive to depravity just keeps rising to the surface.

Me too.

Some organic illnesses represent a broad spectrum themselves. The presentations depend on where in the brain the area the process is localized. It is extremely difficult to diagnose such conditions.

But in James A McGunn's case, I have the strange vibe of Robert Crimo III, and not because of Chicago or even violence. In both cases, looking at these perpetrators, I want to ask, "what am I missing here?" And I feel that the answers will be different, but both cases it is not just "mental illness" or rather, mental illness is the behavior stemming from something more complex.

In both cases, I didn't want to "diagnose". Intuitively, I don't know what i am looking at but IMHO, it is nothing of a "garden variety type". It is the second time that i am typing certain traits that look peculiar to me and come up with long lists. I shall try to shorten them by adding one more denominator.

Everyone who feels certain compassion (and I can poorly understand my own) perhaps hopes for the same - that five years from now, we'll have a better prevention for certain types of violence.

JMO, and i may be wrong.

Ok, that's interesting. Club not hs even though the hs had a team. My only personal experience with this is that my hs technically had a swim team, but couldn't afford enough pool practice time, so we all swam club as our real training and designated our hs as our affiliation for hs meets.

AM's old FB page shows him playing both football and rugby for his high school in 2012 and 2013. He must've advanced to the Tornados club after that.
