Manhunt underway after two people found dead at Devil's Den

The suspect is described as a white man wearing dark shorts, a dark tank top, and weight-lifting gloves.

Two people were found dead on a trail at Devil's Den State Park in West Fork, Arkansas, and police say a possible suspect is still on the run.

A man and woman were found dead on a walking trail in Devil's Den State Park on Saturday afternoon, Arkansas State Police said, adding that a suspect is being sought and the deaths are being investigated as a potential double homicide.

Police were called to the area at about 2:40 p.m., according to a press release. The bodies of the 43-year-old man and 41-year-old woman were transported to the Arkansas State Crime Lab, where cause of death will be determined, police said.

The suspect's vehicle may have been "a Mazda with a license plate covered by electrical or duct tape," police said. That vehicle may have been traveling on State Highway 170 or State Highway 220, police said.

This hits close to home. I love hiking in Arkansas and Devils Den is on my list. State and National Parks have a long history of safety. That never met crime free, but murders are near unheard of.

Background on Devil's Den and confirmation that all hiking trails are currently closed.

Can anyone local or familiar with the park tell from the photos where on the map the scene is?

p.s. I've been enjoying looking at photos online of the park. Looks beautiful. It's not the first place in our country I've learned about from a WS thread that makes me want to visit - not because of the crime but because how nice the place looks. Just an aside. :)

The license plate being covered by electrical or duct tape is interesting.

Agree. MOO perhaps a planned crime?

Does the thread title need to be changed from June 26 to July 26?

Sure seems like it.

But seems like an odd place to commit murder - you'd never know if someone would come up the crime in action. And who would know they were to be on the trail?

Awaiting more info...

Likely only related by location but here's a link to another death at Devil's Den. Missing in 2017 remains found in 2019. Looks like final disposition was no indication of foul play.

The taped license plate sounds like the Australian case of Pheobe Bishop.
