Ok, the duffel bag is not going the direction I thought. The end of it is facing up. So it's a very large bag. He's got one strap around his left shoulder and the other strap around his right shoulder. One end facing up and one end facing down. Here's an image of it on Amazon to see the scale. Up until this point I thought he was carrying 3 items. A small backback, a normal sized duffle bag with one end to the left and the other end facing right, and then something else hanging around the back of his legs. I thought it was maybe a wearable seat pad, but nope, it's just this extremely large duffle bag carried so the ends point up and down, instead of left and right.

So, I haven't read all of the posts so forgive me if something I say was already mentioned/disproven.

The girls ran to the visitors center. The troopers searching the main trail heard screams from the lower trail ( I presume from one of the victims however this may have been proven a false statement). Troopers found both victims dead on the lower trail.

Going off the assumption that the screams heard by the troopers were from one of the victims, something caused the girls to run back to the visitors center early enough in the incident that troopers arrived in time to hear the screams for help. Either there was an initial attack that caused the girls to flee. Or, it was someone that they knew and/or considered a threat. There seems to be a decent amount of time between when the girls went back to the visitors center , the 911 call was made and troopers heard the screams.

Has it been confirmed that the girls were both victims biological daughters?

I am assuming the screams for help were passersby not the victims.

I did not see one way or another in the earlier posts that I have managed to comb through. That makes more sense.

It's my hunch, not a fact.

Also, as for the muscularity issue. To me, it looks like the guy has some very pronounced traps and shoulder structure. I outlined the traps and shoulders in red to highlight this. The blue arrows to highlight how lumped up his traps are. They are so lumpy there's a visible dip under the scarf (or whatever that is going around his neck).

Does anyone know what the white-tipped object is that I’ve circled?

View attachment 604883

I’ve tried to figure out how far that object is from where his hands/body would be.
Notice his arms look bent- so his hands are higher- I don’t think he could be holding it near where the white object is seen.
If it is something long maybe?

Maybe something connected to his clothing, or farther in front of him, a leaf with the sun hitting off of it just right? There are other leaves that appear white and triangular in the pic.

We all have different impressions, and it does help to talk it all out.

I see soft shoulders and upper back, not a person who is fit. I don't see muscles filling out the shirt but pudginess. He doesn't have the stand-up-straight posture that fit people tend to have.

Clothes hang differently on a fit person, in my observation, and I just don't see that here.

Even knowing what this perp is about to do, I don't sense "energy" about him. There's no "capable of action" from this single photo. He just seems "there" and oddly attired.

I also think a fit person would punch in a fight, not pull out a knife....unless the intention all along was the use the knife as intimidation (which I think it was).

The tiny patch of skin we see does not look tanned at all. He obviously likes to be covered up, which might easily explain it, or he isn't actually outside that often.

I also sense a loner because if he ever walked on a hike with another person carrying all that stuff, the companion would say, "Dude! No."

I appreciate all the ideas - they make us all think and hone in to what the details tell us.

The girls were born after the couple got married, so there's a good chance both are their bio parents.

The authorities haven't released any details of the attack. There is an interview on yt that we're not allowed to link to (source not approved here) which clears up some of the questions.

I see that dip too-
Not sure if that is muscle or what we call ‘finish’ when referring to livestock production (a layer of fat).
That black thing on his neck- trying to cover a tattoo?
If he is built, he is trying to cover up that fact. Usually built guys want to show it off.
Notice the sleeve hem on his right and left shoulders are off the shoulder- so that shirt is too big. So, you can’t tell definition in arms with a shirt too big.
His elbows seem wide, like there is padding under the shirt.
It is possible he is somewhat muscular and also overweight a bit? A former athlete

So to me if he is 6’ tall he is heavier than lean athletic- maybe closer to 200 lbs.
My son is 6’1” and is lean/athletic with wide shoulders and weighs about 180 lbs.

Imo as a gym rat, this person doesn't look like another gym rat. No traps, not a strong v-taper even accounting for whatever the bulk around the hips is. MOO but this person has a very average physique, maybe kind of doughy, maybe skinny-fat depending on how many layers of clothes are on board.
Doughy is a great description.

I
I think the odd stance of the attacker in the photo is because he has possibly awkwardly swivelled to avoid face to face contact with the person with the camera. Maybe a bit off balance or trying to look like not up to anything, very casual, but it ends up looking a little funny.

The body composition looks not super masculine, I think, because of the hips, but that’s because of the baggy clothing or shirt tied around the waist and bags hanging all over. This person to me also gives off the vibes of being someone who maybe was a bit flabby, a bit not Mr 6 pack when younger, and they still kind of carry themselves like they are a bit uncomfortable in their body. All JMO from the vibes I get.
Yes, I think the guy either gained some weight recently, or lost weight and hasn't toned up.

It is a good match of possible suspect, most of the other RSOs close by are older men.
I sent in a tip for this one- too many similarities to POI.

Great sleuthing, @AngTxGal.

For sure, it was not photographed to document a killer watching his victims.
RSBM
Well, of course not.

The photographer, whether still or video, would have had no idea why this guy was standing there.

The notion the perp may have been surveilling victims comes from hindsight.

IIRC, this image may have come from a bicyclist's Gopro camera... like he turned his / her head for an instant 'cause the guy standing there was surprising. But I have nothing to substantiate that.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but I believe this is the backpack. High Sierra Loop Daypack - Black.
Straps, reflectors, handle and top zipper all match up.
Welcome to Websleuths!

I like your user name - and it stands out because I originally joined WS to discuss "one" case that caught my eye. Then another, and another. Great discussions happen here and I hope you are more than a "one off."

None of the gear is high-end outdoor gear.
All adequate but not for a person with money.

This makes me wonder about the car- not expecting a high end car.
Some reports said a sports car
4 door sedan
Fast and loud
Mazda was suggested

Mazda 3- sedan looks kinda like a sports car, has a fin on the back, dual exhaust

A reporter interviewed a few local residents. All I will say is one appeared to match the description. And that was repeated and repeated in comments. Other aspects from this list math also.

An alleged passerby who encountered the alleged killer on the trail has described his eyes as green /blue. with sunglasses on his head.
Have you sent that observation into the LE tip line? Don't assume others have.

Could it be the tip of a 'white protective sock' of some sort on the end of a longish item he was carrying cross-body style slung along the front of his body, the lower end at his right hip?

Or something such as a:
  • Protective type of gauze cover or sack to protect something like an aperture for photography/videography (like a video camera or selfie stick) from moisture/rain or fingerprints or bright sunlight?
  • Golf club or other shiny metallic endpoint of an object as in the photo posted above by OP, @Possum_AR, that was catching the reflection of the sun at that position & moment, and went white?
  • Light colored sheath for a hunting weapon like a long knife/scythe, or a bow & arrow/crossbow?
  • Blind spot in the photo, or bleached out spot turned into a whiteish shape from pixilation/poor resolution/manipulation?
Dunno, just guessing, JMO

Does anyone have information to be able to see a aerial view of the trail/parking area and the approximate location of the bodies in relation to the trail and their car?
