If the perp is a nerd, he might be reading these pages. I wonder if he anticipated the chase after him and if he's enjoying the attention/notoriety.

Yeah, this murderer may be reading these threads and enjoying the attention.
Always a possibility, but I don’t think he is that kind of perp.

I think he is the cornered coward type, hold up in his mom’s basement hiding playing video games and watching inappropriate content. Why- because that is what pervs do.

If he is online then he is abundantly aware…
Arkansas has the Death Penalty, and while they haven’t used it in a while, he could break that streak!

Just for him…if he is reading
Arkansas has executed 505 criminals!

Have we had any description of what the trail looked like in the area of the attack?

The lowest part of the trail appears to be very wide open with a long sight line. Then there are photos of caution tape across a set of wooden stairs and there appears to be a fairly narrow trail and tall deciduous trees overhead, and it appears you can't see very far ahead.

Perp was taking such a huge risk trying to take down two healthy adults with children that could run away from the scene.

If I put myself in his mindset I keep landing on child abduction
Clothing and gear are not expensive
Probably did scope out the territory- maybe online- but doesn’t look like a seasoned hiker in summer in Arkansas in the humid forest

NOW? He has had four days. What would he do?
Took off- drove as far away as he could go if he would not be missed
Dumped clothing, weapon, hiding or dumped car
Changed hair color, or cut it short, shaved face
Then when Monday came- went back to work? If he has a job? Or to parents basement?

Or he wasn’t driving that car, it was some young kid being a young kid, and this perp is in the national forest?

Someone has to recognize that drawing and photo
Someone has to recognize that car

Why have they not come forward? Maybe lives in the basement with a parent who is older and they don’t watch the news? Maybe parent saw it and they’ve been silenced?
Maybe he is not from Arkansas so locals would not recognize him as he lives two or three hours away.

Beyond frustrated
Hoping for a press conference today, Governor Huckabee should be feeling uncomfortable about now as this case has gotten national publicity.
IMO
I guess that if he lives alone, doesn't socialise with his neighbours, works remotely/not at all, family live far away/are estranged, etc. he might not have many face-to-face interactions in his daily life for people to notice anything out of the ordinary

I think eventually the children will be talked to by LE and will be able to provide a lot of context, was one of them grabbed first when ran ahead etc .

I dont think parents would intervene for just creepy staring , other than pulling the kids back from running ahead, grabbing kids hand, changing mind about carrying on the trail further away from car park etc. More has to have happened in those few minutes before the children ran to the VIC.

This seems to me like a thrill kill. His outfit reminds me of a getup to look more intimidating. Reminds me of Columbine how they wore this dark and foreboding clothing. Long black pants, gloves, etc. He wanted to play out this character.
...Although I don't understand why it was a one off kill instead of a massacre. Perhaps the killer wanted to infamy of being wanted and chased. Whereas a massacre would have ended within a couple of hours.

Regardless it should be only a matter of days before he is apprehended.

I echo your thought that this was a thrill kill instead of targeted. There have been a few scary killers at national and other parks who murder random strangers.

It is terrifying that they walk among us.

I also agree with those who mentioned the similarities between him and Missy Bevers' killer (as in type of person). But that one has not been caught and sometimes it is very hard to catch these killers, although in that case, it likely was not random.

what about tracing all cell phone pings at the car park during that time frame on the day ? would it yield interesting results? unless perp had switched off .....

I'm concerned the kids might not even be aware of what happened. They might have been playing and suddenly adults are in fight and their parents are telling them to run.

If only less than 1pc of trafficked kids are kidnapped , what is the percentage of kidnapped kids then who are trafficked? It is actually strangely reassuring to think most kidnapped kids then are just taken by ppl who could not have kids of their own ? I think I muddled the statistics up in my head.

when is a presser expected from the state LE ?

Yes, geofencing would be a good idea except the cell service issue.
It has been reported that the park did not have cell service.
I don’t know where it ends but parts of the park are down in a valley.

It's time for a press conference and address the public about what happened. Even if the info is sparse, get the photo and sketch in front of people and announce he likely has injuries.

Unless I missed a presser, one hasn't happened yet, right?

jmo
I agree a press conference is warranted at this time.

Very curious if LE already have the person's DNA and its in the system? [speculation]

The public is your best eyes and ears - get this person in for questioning.

If abduction was the goal (and I think that is a strong possibility), I think it was for personal benefit, not to traffic.

Speculation only.

Is this something new or have the trails been closed since this happened?
I am guessing since this happened. Good police work! moo

OK ...just realised ruling out trafficking still doesnt rule out a SO kidnapping for CSA for own benefit

I seem slower than usual today.

IMO the children witnessed at least part of the attack. I can't imagine what would have happened if they stayed with their parents. I don't think the children were the primary target, but I wonder if the perp was going to abandon them there once he satisfied his urge to kill. OTOH they could recognize him. Perhaps he covered his face before the attack.

You're not slow. With each post, we move along (or backward or sideways). No one knows what happened, after all.

According to the guy who called into the YT show he was making everyone in his cohort very uneasy an hour or so prior to the murders as he passed them on the trail because he was descriptively mean mugging them all. To me he may have a mean demeanor/disposition or as some people refer to it as "rbf," that's certainly possible, but what could have been observed/felt by the passers by also is this killer's "side eye" sizing them up and down, his consideration of them as suitable victims one way or another.

I think a lot of things go into this consideration from one sick fu*k to the next. But to me it just seems like a thrill kill. Of course if that criteria to kill was met because of the kids being present then yeah sure it fair to consider this potentially as a child abduction or murder that didn't materialize (thank god if so!) but the empty duffle bag thing is not an indication of that imo.

The trails have been closed since incident. Check out post #8:

Pure speculation on my part. I am trying to explain the empty bag in my head.

You are supposed to register @ the visitors center to overnight the Butterfield trail. Perhaps one party didn't register and things escalated at the designated campsites?? He left all his gear at the crime scene?? The photo is after murders???

Idk, just trying to wrap my head around the empty bag in the photo that was reported to not be empty earlier?
