Given other reported references to it being a Mazda, I wonder if the perp is driving a Black Mazda Miata.

I'd post a random pic, but there are several different generations with vastly different body styles over the years... I don't want to mislead.

p.s. the gloves could be perp's driving gloves if he fancies himself a racer boy.

I am reading here that it is a four door Mazda. The Miata only has two.

To wear a duffle on your back, it's normally verticle with the zip along your spine, because the handles are on either side/parallel to the zip opening.

The bag the perp is wearing seems to me to be constructed differently, almost with big straps on one side of the bag. I can't see how you'd even carry it by hand...

I think the suspect is carrying it exactly as shown in your first image, except that the end of the bag in your photo is pointing upwards; the bag the suspect was carrying has folded/collapsed because it seems to be empty, and the end is facing towards the camera.

I wonder how many people were at the park during that time on July 26th? I live in AR and would never go hiking or even on a walk in my neighborhood in the afternoon in the summer, but I'm also not very "outdoorsy."

Not blaming the Brinks at all, I'm sure they thought this would be a fun outing, getting to know their new state that they live in. I'm just curious how many people would be on the trails at this time because I would not think it would be very many. So this guy would stick out even more to those on the trail.

It was 2:30 in the afternoon, so it would be the peak heat of the day. On that day at approximately the time of the killings, it was 91F with a dew point of 74, 57% humidity, heat index of 103.

Perhaps, being new to the area from South Dakota, perhaps the Brinks family did not think it would be as hot. I do read that there certainly were other people out hiking at that time.

I also wonder how long he was at the park, waiting to chose someone to attack. He could have been there all day, just hanging out. In that black getup, he would stand out like a sore thumb.

for people who are maybe more familiar and/or have experience with LE operations -- why do you suppose there hasn't been a presser yet? i'm just not familiar with how they decide to have one or not. is it a sign of not much information at all? or a sign that they are very close to an arrest?

but they've put out information regarding the suspect, telling people not to post potentially relevant videos/photos on social media, the area has been closed, etc. that's info they could've had someone stand at a podium before the press and talk about. they could also refuse to take any questions. i just don't understand the thinking behind not doing this? maybe i'm missing something

I’ve been reviewing info about the Idaho Murders and remember very clearly how there was a lack of info early on- and when that happens speculations, conspiracies, and paranoia fill the void.
But- they had a press conference with the Mayor, Dean of Students, and then the Chief of Police within the first five days. Not a lot of info was shared- but at least someone showed up!

I think Arkansas State Police are in a tricky situation, they waited six hours to inform the public. It was 8PM on a Sat night when the alert went out. So people were in the park and surrounding areas doing their Sat afternoon and evening thing and had no idea a murderer was at large.
So- the public trust has been harmed.
Now if the ASP come out for a press conference with nothing good to say- they are going to be told that they made a mistake and that is why the guy has not yet been caught.
It appears to be a murder unrelated to the people killed- so everyone could be a target.

Now the FBI is on board, so what does that mean?
Not a single authority from the local, state, or FBI has given a press conference. To me that is a huge mistake- to me it says they don’t have much.

A guy stabbed people at a state park-
911 was called within 30 min
Many witnesses saw him
Many people saw the car leave the park.
They know the exit he left from- and it has been Five Days and he has not been caught?

I'm also surprised that no press conference has been mentioned in an active case of this notoriety involving double murders in a public place where families go.

I guess it would be too optimistic to think it may be because they're closing in on him. Which they'd actually better do soon before he's permanently under the radar.

exactly! this didn't happen in a private home, this is somewhere that other children and families frequent. why would they not announce that the area is closed off? videos/tv can reach a wider audience than just tweeting or posting on a facebook page. even if this ends up being a personal and targeted attack, it still serves the public interest as it happened in a public place.

maybe one will be coming...

He wanted to appear to belong there so he looked it up and dressed as a stereotypical hiker from Maine in late September. He got it wrong for Arkansas in July.
All his stuff looks brand new too.
I wonder if his license plate was covered with tape to hide that it was from another state.

I'll bet it was an out of state plate.

It's difficult to remember a specific license # to recall, but it's much easier to recognize an out-of-state plate.

So, they assault was reported at 2:30. EMS arrived to the scene and within an hour…they heard screams? I wonder if it was the scream of people discovering the victims or the attack was still taking place. Hopefully the timeline will be clarified soon and that they have quality footage of him they can use to identify him before he does it again. Those poor poor sisters. Horrifying

I was wondering about the screams heard by the officers, if the crime happened then were the screams coming from witnesses? Did the officers find the bodies by following the screams or by following directions given by girls? There seems to be quite a bit of info the officers are keeping close to the vest, and wisely so, but ya I feel like we are missing a pretty big piece of information. Of course we all know this is standard procedure. I can't help but wonder about the screams tho, did someone walk up on the victims already deceased or did someone witness the assault?

I've outlined the bag as I see it. Red is the end of the bag, yellow is the bottom, blue is the top, and green is the sides.

For anyone trying to identify the brand of the bag, the stripes initially appeared to be diagonal but I actually think they're running parallel with the top and bottom of the bag. The bag appears to have folded in the mddle and is collapsing in on itself, so the stripes are twisted.

Carrying a bag that big makes me wonder... just my speculation but either it a) had some particular property he perceived to be useful -- size? waterproofing? or b) he needed *any* duffle bag for some reason. Smaller would have worked, but that was what he had, and he didn't want to or couldn't buy a smaller one.

Just speculating, if we continue with the theory of intending to carry bloody outer clothing - anyone familiar with how workers are supposed to remove contaminated clothing, the idea might be to stand on a protected surface and drop each layer, perhaps so as to not have any contact with the ground? Also just generally, an idea of a portable containment area and then nothing can be lost in the confusion...?

Why in the world would he carry that bag except to put a kid in it? Of course, I wouldn't think that if I saw him on the trail. I would just think, "Odd choice, man," and go on with my day.

But he killed the parents of two kids and then left in a car, after walking around a family-friendly park with a big bag on his back.

What other purpose than abduction would that huge bag serve? He wouldn't need a giant bag just to put a change of clothes in or even to carry supplies like knife, rope, tarp.

Serious question, btw.

Good point. When hiking with kids in July, it's entirely possible that by 2:40 they were ENDING their walk or cutting it short because of the perp.

Now I'm wondering if he had been bothering along the trail prior the attack? And when they got close enough to the visitor's center, the mom and kids ran for it. Perhaps all four started to run after the perp went berserk, and the mom returned to the trail when her husband wasn't behind them at the visitors' center. (What a nightmare.)

The children reported that their parents were being assaulted and one of them stabbed, which implies that they witnessed at least part of the assault. I feel that the kids were instructed to run and get help and the information center as it was close and the kids were familiar with its location.

Here is a little clothing summary as I can find.

Backpack - High Sierra Loop Daypack - Black.

Shoes – Logo appears to be KEEN brand. I am not 100% sure, but I think I have narrowed it down to a shoe. Possibly the KEEN Headout Waterproof Hiking Shoe.

I tried to outline the distinguishing factors, very hard to see though.

Hat - unknown
Buff - unknown
Duffle - unknown - Looks to be a rectangle sports style. Has a clear slip for name tag, which is common in sports bags. (i'll outline and search later.)
Pants - unknown - Looks sleek dark navy or black. (Possibly rain pants.)

Just my two cents since there has been a lot of clothing discussion—I hike all the time and have frequented many hiking trails at all sorts of locations. People wear all sorts of things on trails in all sorts of weather. I live in the south and see people hiking in jeans and crocs in warm weather for example. Have also walked by many people smoking cigars while walking down trail. I wouldn’t think twice if I saw him. I don’t think he would stand out any more than other random/not particularly outdoorsy novices who occasionally go out for hikes. I would just think he dressed according to his style and clothes he had on hand.

It's really just a sports bag. One one site, I found it listed as a soccer bag. There is nothing specific about Hockey in it's design.

I would think the perp was just searching for the largest affordable sports or gym-type bag and this name popped up.

This sounds like a great witness to me, I always notice eye color as well, I was just raised to always look someone in the eye. I like this witness, lots of detailed information.
