Closing arguments- thread #173

Morning Everyone!!! I kept hoping Juan would make us all take a 62 second moment of silence so we could imagine what Travis went through. Either that or counting out the stab wounds. Can't get over how brilliant he is!

I believe that it should be a requirement of testifying in the court system, I simply don't understand the concept of presenting to the jury an "expert" without some type of criteria such as a report!!! Also, I firmly believe that ALV perjured herself and therefore Juan, without DT objections, called her a liar.
AGREE! In some jurisdictions, both sides present their expert witnesses' qualification and they can be questioned or stipulated to by either/both sides.

Ha!! I'm surprised Nurmi didn't put in a motion to give a sur-closing, or whatever, to JM's final statements. I better watch out...he just might try...LOL

Also...anyone know why the other "minute" meeting was with Gilbert PD, etc??

I am thinking for the Juror 8 who was arrested for DUI. IMHO.

:floorlaugh: :floorlaugh:

Ah man, you me ROFL! Yes, Nurmi will be flicking his wrist with the heavy duty watch all day.

Oh no... I'd hate to make that the drinking game word for the day but .......it is Friday.

:banghead:

We should take a guess at how many times Nurmi says three hole wonder

Grandma wasn't brought in to court until the raunchy sex talk was over. If granny is missing today, then I think he will try to make it as titillating and gross as he possibly can. Not that he cares about her hearing this stuff, but he would be crazy to allow the jurors to see her expressions as it's being discussed. Of course, it won't be Jodi's fault, (Travis was the deviant) so maybe he won't care.

I am actually thinking about being sick Monday if that turns out to be the day Juan does his final. I've thought about it all morning. Luckily today my boss is out of town so I can watch until my little hearts content. But Monday I'm feeling a "mental health" day might be needed.

I took Monday off too. :blushing:

It was Gilbert police who arrested juror 8 for DUI.

Can someone tell me at what point during the closing argument Juan was talking about the skateboarders? I watched the YouTube video of the closing part 1 and got 3/4 of the way through part 2 and nothing so far mentioned the skateboarders. Is there some of the closing missing from the YouTube vids?

It is in part 1, at about 1:17:45

After hearing what Skye Hughes said about Travis being afraid to totally get JA out of his life because she had threatened to kill herself, I now believe that is why JA had the gun. I think she held the gun to her head when they were in the bathroom and Travis was sitting in the shower. Maybe Travis did jump up and "lunge" at her to stop her and that's when she brought out the hidden knife. All more of her evil manipulation.

Has anyone put together clips of the parts of Martinez's closing that got a head shake, a "no, I didn't", a chuckle, eye roll, a smile or some other response/reaction from Jodi? I'd love to see them one after another just to get an idea of what she reacts to.

Just saw the clip where she reacted to when he mentioned her sleeping under the Christmas tree.:notgood::notgood:

Good morning friends! I won't be watching Nurmi today but I will be reading along here! Might we have Juan's closing afterwards today?

I have a question: can the jury deliberate on the weekend? Like, could we possibly have a verdict on the weekend if they're done today? The wait is gong to be agonizing (and I pray it'll be worth it)

Big virtual hugs for everyone today! I wouldn't go through this trial with anyone else. This is a wonderful group

Edited to add: I see someone above kind of a swerved my question. Thank you! hopefully we have a verdict next week.

If he has something up his sleeve, thenyoy pull it out and provide disclosure during tye trial.
It was part of the jury instructions that what is said by the lawyers is not evidence so If he has something up his sleeve with no witness to testify to it, then it can't be considered as evidence.
I'm not sure KN cares enough to slide further down the branch limb for JA and risk falling into a pit. I'm pretty sure he'll stick to the sex talk because he likes to make jurors recoil. No revelations just what's legally required is my expectation.

I'll be at work today. But, will stream from AZ Central as long as my connection is good. It is normally, but then I get busy!

Anywhoo.... for all those saying not sure they can watch Nurmi, I betcha you will. ;)

This is the finale, we all have to participate, no?

:juanettes: :juanettes: :juanettes:

BBM: I HATE it when you're right! Not only did I swear I wouldn't watch Nurmi, I didn't SLEEP one wink in anticipation! I SO want him to trip over his tongue today. :great:

I am hoping the judge limits the closing arguments today. Even if the jurors get to deliberate for only 1 hour today, they will get all the
"whew glad that's over", "about time", all the snarky remarks they may have, then they pick the foreman. Then Monday morning, it is down to business for them.

Nurmi will have at least as much time as Juan did yesterday.

Can someone help me with this question? Okay JM took all of yesterday to do his closing. NO DOUBT Nurmi will do the same, either from being a turtle or spite. Do you guys think the jury will get the case today?

I DO NOT. Hell JM gets the last word and Nurmi will NOT let that happen today.

Thoughts?

Kind of a tangential thought, but it seems to me that Nurmi, if he thought about it, would want The Amazing Juan to speak today, after him, and not first thing Monday, or whenever they come back.

If Juan speaks today, then they will be contemporaneous (where have I heard that before?), obviously. But if Juan speaks on a different day, and right before deliberations, that will make his closing that much more powerful and fresh for the jury.

So I will be hoping that Nurmi does ramble on all day, and Juan has a nice, refreshing weekend and reminds the jury just how cold-blooded a killer Little Missy is on Monday, immediately before deliberations!

Is it just me or was anyone else confused by JM jumping from "she brought the gun" right into "she stole the gun from Travis" if there is anyone on the jury hunting for an excuse to acquit or convict of a lesser offense I am afraid they could use that. I am so nervous she is going to walk.

Juan was trying to cover all bases, just in case any of them believe she didn't bring it. No matter what it is Murder 1.

I don't remember if it was testified to in court or if it was on one of the evening HLN shows, but one of Travis' roommates said he noticed the stairway banister was slick like it had just been cleaned. So Jodi must have wiped down the banister to get rid of her prints.

Not that it matters at this point but it's a thought I just had and those are few and far between so I figured I'd write it down. lol

I really think she wore some kind of thick latex gloves to do the cleanup. Or maybe she had bandages in her "kill pack" and was ready to go. Put the bandaid on her little boo-boo and then put on the gloves.

BBM. Talk about a lump of coal.
