Deceased/Not Found CO - Aarone Thompson, 4, Aurora, 2003 *A. Thompson guilty*

I highly doubt he could afford a bond, unless someone sponsored him. The man doesn't have two pennies to rub together. It says he's represented by public defenders.

Gosh, I wonder what happened to the pastor and the congregation that were standing behind this guy. The church that ended up with Shelly's life insurance money! Looks like they cut and ran. They are probably laughing up a storm while they spend that big chunk of money :D

I don't think they're laughing anymore:

Attorney General John Suthers announced theft and forgery charges against Aurora pastor Acen L. Phillips on Tuesday, alleging Phillips defrauded AIG Life Insurance Co. of $575,000.

Suthers said at least some of the money went to church groups Phillips controlled, but he declined to discuss whether or how much of the funds may have gone to Phillips himself.

Phillips' attorney, Gary Lozow, didn't immediately return a phone call. He has said Phillips did nothing wrong.

Phillips, the founder of New Birth Temple of Praise Community Baptist Church, faces seven counts of theft and five counts of forgery.

The charges were filed Monday and disclosed Tuesday. Phillips could face up to 81 years in prison and up to $5 million in fines if convicted on all counts.

One of the five cases involved Shely Lowe, who died in May 2006 and who had been a person of interest in the disappearance of 7-year-old Aarone Thompson. Phillips had served as a family spokesman as police investigated the disappearance.

Thanks for the update I hope they nail him it sounded scam like back then. I hope they pay the other victims families what they are owed.

It's about time they charged this guy with insurance fraud! I don't think he can pay Aarone's father's bond, he's got his own to worry about.

I wonder how many other scams this guy was involved in? I remember when I lived north of Denver, I thought there was something hinky about him, now it's been determined! Snake Oil Salesman!

It is about time. That minister should have had "thief" stamped on his forehead. He will have a lot to answer for when he comes face to face with is maker.

Any news to report? Anyone have any updates to what happened to Aaron Thompson? Hopefully rotting away in prison. I wonder if they ever found this poor childs remains.? Such a sad story. Poor baby girl.

I'm guessing that--since it was such a major story--if they ever find her remains it will be front page news. I hope they find her.

Thompson Will Be Charged In Aarone Death Case

Judge Finds Probable Cause For Charges After Girl's Disappearance

(AP) DENVER A judge ruled Friday there was sufficient probable cause to charging the father of Aarone Thompson with 60 counts, most of which were linked to the girl's disappearance and presumed death.

Arapahoe County District Judge Mark Hannen also said he would rule later on a motion by The Denver Post to unseal records in the case, according to the paper's attorney, Steven Zansberg.

A grand jury indicted Aaron Thompson on charges including child abuse resulting in death, conspiracy to commit child abuse resulting in death, false reporting to authorities, concealing a death, conspiracy to conceal death, abuse of a corpse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and child abuse resulting in injury.

Finally! There's still no word on Aarone's remains, but no doubt it would be difficult to find her remains as she had been gone a good long while before she reported missing ...

The Colorado Supreme Court on Thursday ordered that the judge presiding over the case of Aaron Thompson, who was indicted in the death of his daughter, must show why he is keeping most of the court file sealed.

The ruling comes after The Denver Post and The Associated Press filed a lawsuit to unseal the court documents in the case.

Aaron Thompson will go to trial June 16 in connection with the death of his 6-year-old daughter, Aarone. Judge Mark Hannen set the trial date Wednesday in Arapahoe County District Court. Thompson was indicted this year on 60 counts, including child abuse resulting in death. He is scheduled to enter a plea Jan. 24. Carlos Illescas, The Denver Post

It feels like this case has taken years and years to reach this point. I wonder why the trial isn't until June? That is 6 months away. I hope he gets the book thrown at him by the jury. He should never be let out of prison. That little girl's body will probably never be found. He will probably try and blame the whole thing on Shelly. I think they were both guilty. In my opinion she is already paying for her part in this. Now it is his turn. I wonder if the baby was placed for adoption...anyone know?

The judge presiding over the Aaron Thompson case says the grand-jury indictment should remain sealed because it is the best way to ensure a fair trial, according to documents made public today.

The 36-page brief was written by the attorney general's office, which is standard procedure.

In November, The Denver Post and The Associated Press filed a lawsuit asking the Colorado Supreme Court to review the issue, which it agreed to do.

A hearing has been postponed for a man suspected in the presumed death of his 6-year-old daughter, Aarone Thompson.

Aaron Thompson was set to enter a plea Friday on a 60-count jury indictment against him, but a judge set a new hearing date of March 28 after prosecutors argued his defense attorneys had a conflict of interest.

Thompson's attorneys represented at least five witnesses set to testify at his trial. Under attorney-client privileges, Thompson's attorneys wouldn't be able to obtain information from those witnesses.

Thompson could have waived any potential conflict and decided to keep his attorneys, but he declined to do so.

Why would the five witnesses need attorneys? Why would his attorneys also take the cases of the witnesses? Something is sure messed up there. So is Thompson looking for new attorneys?

The Colorado Supreme Court on Monday ordered the release of details related to child abuse charges contained in a 60-count indictment against Aaron Thompson in the death of his daughter Aarone.

In a 15-page decision issued by Justice Alex J. Martinez, the court rejected arguments made by the Colorado Attorney General's office, which contended that the allegations, if true, "would shock the conscience of reasonable people."

Instead, the court ruled in favor of the Associated Press and the Denver Post, whose lawyers argued that indictments are an official record of a public action which the public has a right to inspect.

A spokeswoman for Arapahoe County District Court said the unsealed portions of the indictment will be posted this week on the court's Web site.

I don't know if this has been discussed or linked anywhere, if so, sorry for the repeat. Has anyone looked at this on the Doe Network? I don't know how to post links, but the case file is 479UFNJ. Since the family been called "transient" it could be Aarone. Just a thought...
