Comments under an article said she was trying to get back to Lubbock. I'm really amazed. She was headed in the right direction, and it seems nearly made it. How in the world does she know how to pick a train from CO headed to Lubbock, and then stow away?

Most likely it was Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.
I see those coal trains all the time. Martin Drake is coal fired in Colorado Springs, and the coal trains go to Pueblo, etc.

I think the "real" why is that she wanted to get back to her friends and boyfriend, and was over spending time with family in Colorado springs. Honestly, she sounds pretty capable of taking care of herself. I wonder if they found her on the train because Mom said "umm, an interesting fact about her is she has been taught how to hop coal trains".

kids don't have the same filters, the same experience, the same sense of knowing what could happen... generally speaking anyway. Isn't that one reason a child puts everything into their mouths? We know that a clear packet of laundry soap, or a dirty quarter, won't taste good so we don't put it in our mouths. We worry what will happen if we push that red button, but kids? They are pushing that damn button.

We know riding a coal train can be risky (for starters) so most folks probably would not consider jumping on one. A youngster isn't quite as concerned with what might happen.

I don't know, I'm rambling, glad she is safe. So so glad and relieved. Phew!

Dang, I can't even go in the right direction when I'm using google maps. How the hell? I also saw in a previous article she was without her phone because her parents took it away before the trip.

Shes a child, a lucky child.
We all here know how easy kids are taken and/or die by misadventures. You dont do something just because you want to.
Im just glad shes safe.
