Found Deceased CO - Adam Gilbertson, 29, Denver, 14 Dec 2017

I tend to disagree that four days isn’t long, in my personal experience. I used to be a breaking news reporter for major newspaper in Chicago and the ME almost always had a preliminary cause/manner of death conclusion within a day or two of the autopsy and the autopsy was always conducted within one or two days of the body being recovered. Even if that conclusion was just “underermined pending ———”. However maybe the Denver ME is different or maybe the Denver media outlets are less proactive about getting this information. At my Chicago paper we always talked to the ME office at least once a day and always visited the ME office once a day on the overnight shift.

Adding to what theides said, the media in Adam's case has been pretty absent, they barely covered the case and we see LE's response to Adam missing, they did nothing. For all we know the ME has made a determination but the media isn't interested so no one has asked.

It breaks my heart. It's almost as if his life didn't matter to the LE and media outlets in Denver. That poor family deserves better than this. I hope that they at least have been contacted personally by LE or the ME and told what is going on in terms of the autopsy.

No autopsy results and cause of death yet? :( why is this taking so long?

I have been thinking about Adam's family this morning & afternoon; I am guessing they're back in Minnesota and I really hope they have plenty of support/hugs from neighbours and coworkers.

I'm wondering, too. Unless they told the family that he committed suicide and LE didn't make it public, out of respect for the family.

They also will try to set up a live stream on the Facebook page for those who can't attend in person.

I am doubtful that manner of death will be possible to determine. Unless he left a note, or unless there are clear signs of injuries caused by another person, not sure how they will be able to be certain either way. Or he may even have fallen...it may be impossible to tell where he entered the water. Very sad.

Couldn’t access the stream. I’m not a friend on the page and think an invite was needed to watch.

That's strange. It's a public post, and I have a few Facebook friends who are watching it that are not members of that page.

I can see it now but couldn’t earlier. Weird. Maybe something wrong with my connection.

It was very beautiful and moving. Lots of people watching it through Facebook; at one time the page "collapsed" because everybody was writing messages of condolences at the same time.

Channel 4 News in Denver did run a report that the funeral service was held today and ended saying the circumstances surrounding Adam's death were still being investigated.

Did Channel 4 do an update on this case? I just want to know if someone harmed Adam, and if so, what steps are being taken to find the person that did so.

If he harmed himself or accidentally drowned, then they can simply say that he drowned and leave it at that for the family's sake.

I just want to make sure that Adam gets justice, if it's needed.

Funeral services for Adam Ronald Gilbertson.

Got a great sense of some of who Adam was from his close friends and family, who all spoke so poignantly, movingly and well. A beautiful service to see for Adam. May he rest in peace.

Absolutely no new info on the case since Adam's body was identified. The Denver Post did not even mention his funeral.

I would assume the coroner would have reported if any obvious signs of foul play were found even before releasing a final autopsy conclusion, but with nothing from the police or the ME, I have to expect an inconclusive ending to this unless they get something from his phone or clothes (assuming those were on him.) Can drowning even be determined after a body has been submerged for so long, or any toxicology results with water saturating all tissue, let alone determining if it was accidental?

Autopsy results in CO are open records, so even if no media report on it when the coroner releases it, Denver will supply a copy for a $12 fee upon request.

From his public online life there is no hint of depression I can see, so hard to believe from his apparent joy in life and his family saying none of his friends they spoke to in Denver thought he would do this voluntarily, that a bad night at a bar would push him to self-harm. Of course, I only have an idealized view of his public persona and reminiscences and his private posts might be more revealing.

After getting his third degree, in Nursing, Adam seemed genuinely stoked to move back to big city life at the end of July for his hospice job, which didn't start until October. So maybe his expectations of Denver were dashed during the summer when he was living alone and was not working. I did notice that just after his RN Board Certification tests in mid-August he announced a 40-day total social media sabbatical without further explanation online, so despite not showing an inordinate amount of public posts previously, maybe something was going on in his real life/online private life that he was trying to work out. His public posts resumed at the end of September and showed no change from his previous ones.

Looking from the outside, I really would like to believe this world was enough for a guy who seemed so loved, loving and joyful, but I think there won't be any definitive answer. I tried to find some closure by going to his riverside memorial site and watching his funeral service online, and that helped.

Maybe, for me, it's because I've idealized him as someone who lived in half my years a more complete life, but I did not expect to be so affected by someone I never knew.

Thank you, dspdenver for that wonderfully informative post.

I pray that Adam's family can find peace in their hearts after such a tremendous loss. He sounded like a beautiful and caring soul- the world needs more people like Adam, not less.

I know how you feel- I, too, am affected by him and his loss- he sure did affect quite a few of us on here. I think most of us saw something in ourselves that we related to Adam- for me, his love of outdoors, Science, compassion, among other things. Such a shame that his life ended so young. I just hope that at least his family has an answer as to what happened to him, for their benefit.

Thanks again for your wonderful thought out post. Much appreciated. I'm just hoping that it wasn't foul play- to think of someone hurting such a wonderful person would break my heart along with his loved ones, friends, and posters here. Hopefully it was just an accident.
