DENVER (CBS4) – Denver police are investigating the death of child in the northeast Denver.

Police said officers were called to the 2700 block of East 33rd Avenue at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on a report of an infant not breathing.

“When officers arrived they located the 8-month-old that had been inside a bathtub. The child was transported to a nearby hospital and was pronounced deceased a short time later,” Det. John White with Denver police said in prepared statement.

Muriel Keer was sentenced Friday to 36 years for child abuse resulting in death and four years for a probation revocation on a drug case, according to Denver District Attorney spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough.

The charge alleges that on Sept. 20, 2011, Keer left her son Aldrich Leathers alone in a bathtub with the water running while she was on her computer...

In the bathroom, Hopkins said he found the baby boy lying face-up under the surface of the water with toys floating around him... The faucet was still running into the brimming tub and water was flowing into an overflow drain, an arrest affidavit said.
