Search teams, family looking for missing Towaoc man

Search teams and family members are looking for Arnold Dean House, a Towaoc man who has been missing since Dec. 24.

House, 49, is often seen walking or hitchhiking along U.S. Highway 491 between Towaoc and Cortez. He also frequents the area of Woody’s Food Store north of Towaoc, on U.S. 491.

“We have been looking for him for weeks,” said John Trocheck, Ute Mountain Ute public safety director. “The community and family are very concerned.”

Organized search efforts are continuing, he said.

Wondering if he was walking along that highway and was struck by a vehicle and the driver panicked and fled. I hope they thoroughly searched the highway. If there is snow that hasn't melted, it would be hard to find any clues until a thaw. Very heartbreaking for his family.

I had another thought today. I'm from the south and it was very warm here that day. I imagine it was very cold in Colorado the day Mr. House (AH) went missing. Could be he found a warm place somewhere in or near the woods and fell asleep and woke up disoriented in the dark.

Or...had he just cashed a check or had a little extra cash? He was known to hitchhike and could have been robbed or assaulted.

Or... maybe a long haul trucker with good intentions picked him up and gave him a ride, then dropped him off at a truckstop some distance away. I am hoping Missing Person flyers were distributed and posted at rest areas and truck stops for a 100-miles out. Maybe someone saw him or talked to him.

Man missing since December found dead in southwest Colorado
Authorities say a man who was reported missing in December has been found dead in southwest Colorado.

The Cortez Journal reports 49-year-old Arnold Dean House’s body was found near Towaoc on Thursday afternoon.

Montezuma County Coroner George Deavers has not determined a cause of death, but he says exposure likely played a role.
