Found Deceased CO - BARRY ARRESTED AGAIN - Suzanne Morphew, 49, Chaffee Co, 10 May 2020 *Case dismissed w/o prejudice* *found in 2023* #117

It took a while, but I went back to @DizzyB’s fabulous “Today is the Day” post and read every post up to here to catch up. And boy was it worth it! Seeing so many of you again, who have followed this case for so long, and the glorious reactions to the news of Barry’s arrest. Also was a great refresher on the case details, theories, and our outstanding questions.

I do think it is likely there was a tip called in, and that Barry had help moving Suzanne’s body. Maybe even both times, first after her murder, then when he relocated her. But, since he got away with it for this long, it’s possible he pulled it all off solo. I think he first took Suzanne’s body up the mountain, perhaps up past the fire station. He’d have headed toward an area that he was already familiar with, given it was the dead of night.

Expecting trial witnesses to include Grusing, Suzanne’s sister MM, brother AM, best friend SO, the neighbor JR, worker MG, and more. Hoping the star witness will be SD in a spectacular tell-all. Would not surprise me if SD’s other ex-bf, FB, also made an appearance at trial. Those two knew things.

I do wonder if it was premeditated, and if he may have planned to take her on that “hike” on Saturday morning, and have her “fall” off the mountain, but plans went awry, and Plan B was the BAM.

Can’t wait for the trial. Looking forward to the likely wait of a year or more of discussion with you all leading up to trial.

For now, we can keep celebrating that Barry Lee Morphew, aka “Lee Moore” is now FREE NO MORE!

I hope he enjoyed Father’s Day in his trailer. It was his last ever as a free man. His new temporary home in Maricopa County, is Pod2 Cell3 Bed 1

Next up: Some jail cell in Colorado.
Then Life in Prison.

IN my mind..... AKA >>> "Flee No Moore" Lee Moore is eerie considering it's his middle name and Moorman was SM's maiden name. Someone mentioned it upthread, I apologize for not being able to locate the post. It was a very astute speculation and IMO something BM would do to "keep her close"

I wonder if JL will be on the witness list. I know he has avoided this case and the limelight to try and spare his family. I also believe he has important information on BM's history and idiosyncratic behaviors.

I think Barry might have had thoughts and fantasized about killing Suzanne, but I now do not think he had anything preplanned. I do not think Barry plans much, he is far too disorganised. I do not think he initially thought about moving her,it was reactionary.

I think he plans a lot. How he executes the plans is another question. But not that badly, if this story has lasted for so long. I think part of his “success” so far could be explained by: 1) with the murder and the aftermath - him doing what he knew well how to do; 2) him acting alone.

I think that in general he used to be pretty high-functioning and up to a certain point in his life, his quirks didn’t raise many flags. Suzanne started fighting life with Barry for a reason. He used to be difficult, but at a certain point became impossible at home, while still looking functional to the community.

What amped up his anger and impulsivity? I wonder if he had a little bit of steroid psychosis. JMO. I am thinking about his age group and his jealousy.

In the days after Suzanne Morphew vanished on Mother’s Day 2020, her friend Tisha Leewaye led a group of volunteers through the wooded hills near the Morphew family home, searching for any sign of where she might have gone.

[…]

Leewaye, who had become acquainted with Suzanne a year earlier, tried to ignore the hysteria and focus on what mattered most: bringing her friend home.

She organized a search of the woods near where Suzanne’s bike was found, hoping to uncover clues that law enforcement might have missed.

Among the search party was an elderly man in his early 70s who accidentally wandered onto the Morphew property while scanning the ground for overlooked evidence.

According to Leewaye, the man was abruptly confronted by Morphew - armed with a shotgun - who shouted at him to get ‘the 🤬🤬🤬* off my property’ and never come back.

‘We were so shocked,’ Leewaye told the Daily Mail. ‘It was such an unsettling interaction, and it was hard to believe someone would act like that towards somebody who was searching for his missing wife.

‘But I guess now we know… I don’t think he ever wanted her body to be found.’

Weeks and months passed without answers.

Leewaye continued organizing search parties and claimed to have had more fractious encounters with Morphew, alleging he often drove past them angrily at speed, heckling and ordering that they stay away from the home - but never once joined in.

I’m wondering if BM (perfect initials for him) could have moved Suzanne’s body to Moffat, knowing it would eventually be found, in order to provide some closure for their daughters. I think he’s cold hearted, don’t get me wrong, but I wonder if seeing his daughters grieve for their missing mother finally got to him. (Either because he actually loves them and it bothered him to see them suffer, or simply because he was annoyed by their grief.) There is no closure with a missing loved one, so perhaps he hoped their daughters would move through their grief faster if they had definitive proof that their mom was deceased.

Obviously, if he truly loved them, he wouldn’t have killed their mother…

Life insurance would be a huge one, if it exists. No 7 year wait with a body.

Getting access to the rest of her assets would be another one.

It's possible that he figured that her body being found in biking clothes, would help him with that lawsuit (being factually innocent probably helps somewhat).

If she was moved, which seems very, very likely, I just don't see any explanation other than him wanting her found, for one reason or another. You don't take a body that's been successfully hidden for two or so years, and put it in a shallow grave in a location where its eventual discovery is inevitable.
I remember discussing a life insurance policy way back when. Did we ever find that she had one?

I found this story again while searching for something else. Hope the link holds. Melinda is such a gracious, kind, humble person. I hope for her sake this nightmare will be over soon.

We've never had any confirmation that she had one. I know it was discussed that there would be some difficulty considering her cancer history. I'd still be surprised if one didn't exist though, maybe even a couple.

So there are ways to speed up the process if there is evidence that a person is deceased, but I imagine it's pretty time consuming and not guaranteed.

The standard of 7 years is based on SS guidelines.

I don’t remember exactly what it was Barry filed for in Indiana probate court - but wasn’t he granted control over all her assets? That’s how he was able to sell the house. Did he also get all her inheritance money? He also owed her Dad money didn’t he?

Barry’s behavior has never been about helping or easing another’s pain. The only reason he ever does anything is to benefit himself.

Thank you so much for sharing this article. It was an interesting read and paints a more sympathetic picture of Shoshona than anything else I’ve seen. Sounds like Barry is very good at reeling people in before they see his dark side. Perhaps he’s managed to hide it from his daughters as Shoshona says, but I find that very difficult to believe. I imagine they’ve lived with cognitive dissonance for years.

And what about the dude with the wig way back during one of the searches? Possibly on a bicycle? Did anybody ever figure out who that was? And why the obvious wig? What was that person doing? Of course I don’t remember where that came from so maybe I have the wrong case??
Was a fellow firefighter, not a male

Honestly, from everything we know about him, whether he loved his daughters or not, I don't think he has a compassionate bone in his body - and I doubt very much that he was thinking of anyone else at the time. But that's JMO, my take on it, obviously. I'm more inclined to think that he was so annoyed by the fact that LE had so quickly made up their minds that he was the guilty party that he made her remains available to lend weight to his stories and thus clear his name (and make himself a fortune in compensation in the process).

You're confusing Cahill who is CBI, with legendary FBI profiler Jonny Grusing. Not only was he not sidelined during the case, but he stayed on for about a year afterwards, working as a special investigator for Chaffee (no doubt this case).

I'm just totally lost as to why anyone would think gutting the case is a good idea, which is exactly what would happen without all of Barry's lies, the majority of which came during his interviews with Grusing and Harris.

The most important interview was the final one, where all the evidence was presented to Barry, and he addressed it point by point, digging his own grave.

Yes, you have BAM in her bones, telematics, and cell phone data.

But it is from those interviews we knew that Barry, owned, recently used, and admitting to throwing BAM away.

The telematics matter because Barry tells a story that doesn't jibe with that data. The same applies to the phone data.
thanks for clarifying! It wouldn't gutting the case, imo, as the body has been found, there is new evidence, that, imo, negates the need for (some) old evidence to be presented to the jury. This trial needs to be focussed on the overwhelming evidence contained in the remains, telematics, cell phone data. imo. This does not need to be a circus.

I have even considered whether the prosecution would bring in JL as a witness. At the moment I think they need to - as I have a feeling that the prosecution will say that BM found out about the affair and this resulted in Suzannes death.imo.

Just all speculation on my part.

I agree with the bolded portion above. And Agent Grusing was the one investigating and testifying about the telematics and cell phone data. So they aren't going to leave him out, imo.

Plus he had many hours of one on one interviews with everyone including Barry himself. He got Barry to open up and admit a lot of stupid but incriminating things.

Much of the info about BAM and Barry being adept at using it when he illegally stole antlers from drugged wildlife was from Agent Grusing's conversations with his good pal Barry.

He also bragged to Grusing about his running around and shooting dozens of chipmunks in the yard. Info, whether true or false, that came back to be potentially important later on.

You are absolutely correct, there is no way that the prosecution is going to leave all that information out of the trial .

It was VERY fast.
