I agree. It didn’t seem to me that he would carry the bike clothes openly into the hotel, since he had already set up the bike abduction scenario. Perhaps it was simply a mistake born of exhaustion. He’d had been awfully busy (and pumping adrenaline) for the preceding 18 hours and the hotel was his first stop since dumping her bike and helmet near the family home.
At 8:46 AM on Mother’s Day, Barry walked into the hotel carrying two white trash bags a khaki backpack, a pair of boots, a dark-colored item and a the blue-teal colored clothing (Arrest Affidavit page 35). Mr. Morphew’s worker Morgan Gentile told law enforcement, that at 11:15AM he called her and “was out of breath, panting but fatigue, kind a like hungover but he doesn't drink, honestly when I hung up I thought to myself he sounded like he had the worst night of his life." (Page 50 of the Arrest Affidavit). This supports the idea that he was zoned out and may have carelessly carried Suzanne’s biking clothes into the hotel without considering that he was being filmed or observed.
His disposal runs began after he entered the hotel with the teal blue colored material. Between about 10AM and 12:40PM he dumps items at a MacDonald’s, a Men’s Wherehouse and at the hotel. At 12:42 PM, Mr. Morphew entered his hotel room and did not leave his room until 6:03 PM.
A little clarification regarding Mr. Morphew’s trash runs documented by LE. He actually made two dumps prior to checking into the hotel while carrying a teal-colored item. Just so we can all appreciate the immense volume of garbage (aka evidence) he needed to dump to “clean out his truck” (per the arrest affidavit) I’ve summarized them below.
Trash Run #1
At a bus stop in Broomfield. Mr. Morphew said whatever he threw away was probably just sitting right there on his seat. He said he couldn't tell agents what it was, but it wasn't worth anything. He said it was just junk, probably wrappers and cans. (Arrest Affidavit p. 80).
Trash Run #2
Mr. Morphew parked on the south side of the hotel at the Holiday Inn Express where there is a trash can and passenger doors opened and closed a couple of times before he actually checked into the hotel (Grusing Testimony, Day 2 of Preliminary Hearing). Mr. Morphew acknowledged disposing of trash but could not recall what it might have been.
Laughable side note: He said he parked there to wait for someone to come out of the door so he could go in and get a free breakfast. [since when is the hotel or breakfast room locked?]
Hotel Check-In
Mr. Morphew enters the Holiday Inn Express in Bloomfield around 8:25AM.
From Day 2 testimony at the Preliminary Hearing:
A Grusing: He checked in and then the next item of interest -- or surveillance photos of interest were him carrying multiple items to his room.
Q Lindsey: What does it appear he has in his hands?
A Grusing: Well he's wearing a backpack and a long-sleeved shirt and in his left hand he's carrying what looks like hiking boots, a teal colored top possibly. We weren't able to confirm that for sure……. It's a piece of clothing would probably be a better way to put it.
He then drives by the job site and then to a MacDonalds.
Trash Run #3
MacDonalds (Exhibit 40 from Preliminary Hearing). Mr. Morphew did not recall what he might have disposed here other than possibly “wrappers” from his truck.
Trash Run #4
The Men’s Wearhouse (Exhibit from Preliminary Hearing). He spent 40 minutes here and his doors were opening and closing for extended periods of time (Grusing Testimony, Prelim. Hearing Day 2). Mr. Morphew could not recall what he was disposing of at this location but said that he had cleaned off his workbench and that he might have thrown that stuff away when he went to Broomfield. In 10 interviews, tranquilizer materials from the garage were the only things he could recall that he threw or could have thrown away on the trip to Bloomfield (Grusing Testimony, Day 2 of PH).
Trash Run #5
Back at the Holiday Inn Express around 12:30PM he disposes of two bags, a black container and a coat before going to his room until approximately 6PM.
One would imagine his truck would be spic and span after this garbage route through Bloomfield, but apparently not.
The Arrest Affidavit notes: "Regarding the interior of Barry's F-350 on May 12, 2020: "The interior of the truck was cluttered with several personal items. The interior dash area was dusty and dirty." The pics below seem to confirm this.
One’s interpretation of the above evidence yields two possible scenarios that a jury might have to consider –
1. Mr. Morphew is a is a disorganized, yet parsimonious man with an exceptionally poor memory who loved his wife.
2. Mr. Morphew is deceitful, lying slob who murdered his wife.
