Poor kid. His reconstruction seriously unsettles me. It hardly looks human. Why do clay busts almost always end up looking so uncanny?

I emailed the Chaffee County Sheriff's office to see if they did a previous comparison between the two. I will let you know if I hear anything back.
Thank you! Do whatever you need to with the information. I'm surprised Joseph doesn't have his picture attached to any of the missing websites I've looked at. I haven't found photos of him anywhere besides that thread.

A detective from the Chaffee County Sheriff's office called me over the weekend and left a voicemail. He wanted to speak with me more about this possible match. He said he also passed along the info to the Colorado Bureau of Investigations to see if they we compared in the past. I just looked at both Joseph and the John Doe's NamUs profiles and both have not been modified recently. I left him a message about an hour ago, I am hoping to hear back from soon. He seemed like he was really interested in this case. Thanks for you suggestion and I will keep you updated.

I hope he is identified soon. He was just a teen, a kid. His family must have been devastated. Back then sometimes reports of missing teens weren't taken seriously, so someone may still be missing him to this day.

The PA matchbook (insurance) is evidently Lebanon PA. And another matchbook Illinois. So this person's doing some traveling. And then, found all the way out in Chaffee County CO.

This is sort of reminding me quite a lot of the Quinton Township John Doe in Salem County NJ, who also had a matchbook, his for a realtor in Cape May, NJ, and Quinton where Doe was found is about an hour and a half away from Cape May. Found 1979, smoker, he had little doodles on his box of cigarettes, so he's probably about the same age as this Doe's projected to be. That Doe also died by gunshot. Same height weight projection on both Does. I also remember something about the Quinton Twp Doe being found in a location used by loggers, just confirmed it, yes. And it's the same situation with the Chaffee Doe, this location does appear also to be associated with loggers. But in Chaffee, it looks like any heavy-duty/widespread use for logging would have died out by about mid 20th cent. With the Chaffee Doe, three cartridge shell casings, believed killed in 1976. And that Illinois matchbook, am looking now to see where that may have been. Might have been way down in southern Illinois, Belleville, near St. Louis. Unfortunate guess on this is that bowling alleys come and go, they more often go since that timeframe and this location on the matchbook is now probably defunct and without much of a trail left behind, But assuming it's the Belleville location (which is a pretty big assumption), that's way down by St. Louis, and it does connect to Lebanon PA via I-70.

So guesses on this:
Paul Allard, Miami FL, Aug 1976 known to hitchhike long distances, he is very close on age and height and jmo there'something of a resemblance

John Mitchell Carroll, Susanville CA, Sept 1975 was going to meet someone about a job the day he vanished, a resemblance

Donald Wayne Sharp, lived in KY at the time, disappeared from Shawnee State Park West Portsmouth Ohio in Feb 1976

Gary Beauchamp, Oct 1976 Canton OH he is in line with height but would be drastically different on weight as Gary's listed at 5'7" and 80-100lbs; hitchhiking, arm in a cast at time of disappearance

And just putting it out there for the people wondering on Joseph Myers, Cahokia has to be pretty close to that Belleville location on the Plaza Bowling provided that's the right Plaza Bowl. Checked, Cahokia 23 mins to Belleville.

Almost all the exclusions for this Doe are CO. Doe had matchbooks from Lebanon (evidently Lebanon) PA and a bowling alley in Illinois, he was either at these locations, near these locations, or in contact with two other people who were at/near these locations, and to me, that translates into Doe hitchhiking because it's unlikely a single individual furnished him with books from both PA and IL. It potentially could be a CO Doe in the hotel industry or some industry in frequent contact with travelers, but jmo it's far more likely the Doe traveled/was a hitchhiker, and probably smoked.
