Man claims to be missing child, police have their doubts
"Unfortunately at this time it does not appear this will be credible information, however, we are working to confirm," Colorado Springs police cold case Commander Jeff Jensen said in an email Friday. He declined to provide specifics about why the person's connection seems unlikely before DNA test results are returned.

Just why would a person claim to be a missing person?

This is happening more and more often. I just saw on Azaria Chamberlain's thread that someone is claiming to be her. Mental illness seems to be the cause of these claims in many cases. :(

It could be an attention-seeking thing, or maybe if he's not Christopher, he really believes that he is- maybe his childhood was rough and it would be nice to belong to a family that always wanted him.

Just guessing, of course- if he's making it up, nobody knows why but him.

I lived in Pueblo for a long time, so this case really feels near to home for me.

Claim that man is Colorado Springs child who disappeared 30 years ago likely not credible

Hopes for a breakthrough in the decades-old Christopher Abeyta investigation appear to have been dashed once again.

A man who believed he was the long-missing Colorado Springs boy came forward this week for DNA testing to prove his identity. Police, however, are casting their doubts.

"Unfortunately at this time it does not appear this will be credible information, however, we are working to confirm," Colorado Springs police cold case Commander Jeff Jensen said in an email Friday. He declined to provide specifics about why the person's connection seems unlikely before DNA test results are returned.

Remember the Jennifer Klein Feasco when that women came forward and said she was her and dragged two other innocent families into it well he could be an attention seeker as much as I want this man to be him my meeter is going up but I could be wrong

That Jennifer K. situation was awful. I followed that one closely. You can't help but hope. After that, I did a lot of research and I was shocked at how often these things happen. There was one case I read about where the missing woman's family actually accepted her into their lives. She even lived with the mp's husband and helped raise his children for quite a while. The family wanted their loved one back so badly that they just latched on right away. Then when they finally did the DNA testing it proved she was lying the whole time.

Ugh, really? That's awful. She was gone that first day. Poor thing.

Awful. Do you know which case that was @FlossyMay? Reminds me of Nicholas Barclay. Although, I'm confident that Nicholas' family were willing to accept a stranger into their home in order to make it look like they didn't harm him.

Not sure if this can be mentioned - but someone on Facebook lined up a photo of Christopher as an infant with that of the man that came forward when he was a young boy and I am totally convinced it is him. What an amazing development.

Can anyone think of a case where, after many years, someone came forward claming to be a missing child, and they actually ended up being that person?

They guy claiming he is Christopher was on the fb Pages he posted a photo of him as a child for comparison. I messsged him to try and get more info out of him because he commented on one of my posts

He basically questions things at 28 when some personal stuff was happening he got no answers from family who refused to help him.

He said he’s not out to harm any one or cause any pain he just wants answers he will keep looking if dna is negative

He said his parents growing up followed Christopher’s story and during the trial and lawsuits they followed it even more and talked about eb

He says when he got his dna sample the police and law enforcement promised him that it would
Be hush and not in the news but he said as soon as he got home to his state it was all over national news
I wished him good luck. Part of me says this could be a huge break and part of me says it’s not him

Yes, I recall her. I mean a baby or small enough child, where it wouldn’t be immediately evident that the adult now claiming to be the child was, in fact, that child.

Thank you. It’s so hard to know what is true and what is not true. What someone says, what is going on , etc. I guess we’ll know in a month or so.
