14 Inches and 2 pounds is teeny for an infant. Most term newborns are between 18 and 20 inches and closer to 7 pounds. Sounds like this little one was early, at the minimum. I wonder if they were able to determine if the baby was born alive or deceased. That could be beneficial here.

I was a preemie at a bit more than 2 lb and I was SMALL. Can't imagine this little one would have survived without medical help. Likely probably stillborn, I hope the mother was doing ok and got medical help

It doesn't mention an umbilical cord or placenta still being attached. Not to be grim, but the NamUs does specify "insect/animal activity" so it's possible they were eaten away before she was found (but surely there'd still be signs they were there). There's no PMI listed.

It's possible she:

• was a preemie that was born in a hospital and lived for a while before something happened
• was a preemie that was born at home alive, never recorded at a hospital, and something happened
• both of the above options only that she was full-term but just very small
• was born outside of a hospital, either preemie or full-term, that was stillborn

Obviously if she was born deceased at a hospital or died very shortly after birth, she would've been recorded and gone straight to a funeral home or mortuary afterward. MOO.
