Human Remains Located in Remote Area Confirmed to Be Edna Quintana
SAGUACHE COUNTY, CO — On June 17, 2025, a hiker in a remote area of Saguache County discovered what appeared to be human remains and immediately contacted the Saguache County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies promptly responded to the location and secured the scene pending further investigation.

On June 18, 2025, Saguache County deputies returned to the scene alongside Agents and Crime Scene Analysts from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and two cadaver dog teams from Colorado Forensic Canines. A coordinated search was conducted, and the remains were carefully recovered and transported to the El Paso County Coroner’s Office for examination.

On June 25, 2025, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of the remains as Edna Quintana, who had previously been reported missing. The 55-year-old was reported to have gone missing around May 3, 2023, while rock hunting on County Road 46AA in Saguache, Colorado.


Saguache County Deputies have since made contact with Ms. Quintana’s family to inform them of the identification and to offer their support. The Sheriff's Office expresses its deepest condolences to the Quintana family during this difficult time.

At this stage, the manner and cause of death remain under investigation. Autopsy results and forensic testing are still pending. The Saguache County Sheriff’s Office is working closely with CBI to determine the circumstances surrounding Ms. Quintana’s death.

We urge anyone who may have information regarding Edna Quintana’s disappearance or death to contact the Saguache County Sheriff’s Office at 719-655-2525.

Quintana’s remains were found by a hiker, who came across them on June 17 and called the Saguache County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies secured the scene before returning with Colorado Bureau of Investigation agents and cadaver dog teams from Colorado Forensic Canines to search the area the next day. Officials recovered the remains and took them to the El Paso County Coroner’s Office, where they were positively identified as Quintana’s on Wednesday.

The cause and manner of her death are still under investigation, and autopsy and forensic testing results are still pending, according to the sheriff’s office. Agency officials declined to release more information about where her remains were found because of the ongoing investigation
