Erin Vandewiele was last heard from July 23, and her last conversation with family and friends, left them shaken. Vandewiele spoke with someone over the phone when she said she would call back the next day, if she was still alive.

Vandewiele is 40-years-old, 5′ 5″ and 115 Ibs. She has brown hair and eyes, and she has a forearm tattoo that says ‘I do what I want.’

Vandewiele was traveling with a man named Joe Mayer, believed to be her boyfriend at the time. The two left Wisconsin together to head to Denver, CO. Mayer was arrested in Denver and brought back to Dunn County for outstanding warrants, but Vandewiele was nowhere to be found.

Vandewiele’s social security card and drivers license were found on a Denver bus. The rest of her belongings were in a Denver hotel room.

Missing woman reportedly sent panicked texts to loved ones before disappearance: ‘He’s gonna kill me if I don’t get away’
The missing woman’s sister, Mandi Schmidt, told KMGH that Vandewiele’s identification and social security cards were found on a Regional Transportation District bus in Denver. The Dunn County News reported that the remainder of her belongings were located in a Denver hotel room.

Despite this, authorities are reportedly treating her disappearance as a missing persons case.
Schmidt revealed to the newspaper that her sister deals with anxiety and depression. Before her disappearance, Schmidt said she feared for her life and regretted going to Colorado with Mayer.

"Some friends received disturbing text messages days before she vanished. One text reads, "He's gonna kill me if I don't get away from him today."

They believe she was talking about Joe Mayer. Vandewiele moved to Denver with him but Mayer was arrested on outstanding warrants that are unrelated to this case, and she was nowhere to be found.

Mayer was arrested in the Denver area and extradited to Wisconsin to face charges. He has a lengthy criminal record and remains behind bars...."

"Some friends received disturbing text messages days before she vanished. One text reads, "He's gonna kill me if I don't get away from him today."

Two weeks later on July 23, Ms Vandewiele contacted another friend, revealing she regretted moving interstate. Erin said she had been sleeping at Denver’s Union Station for five days by herself and sent him a picture at the station.

Ms Vandewiele mysteriously dropped out of contact with everyone and her personal belongings were later found in a hotel in Denver, while her ID cards were found on a bus.

Police arrested the man she moved interstate with on August 19 for starting a fire in a creek before they realized he was listed on a national database as a dangerous fugitive wanted on drug and burglary charges. He was extradited to Wisconsin, where he remains in custody on outstanding warrants.

Missing Dunn Co. woman’s family now in Denver searching for her
A picture of Erin Vandewiele is on the orange shirts that her family and friends are wearing around Denver. They traveled from Wisconsin to Colorado in hopes of finding some more clues about her disappearance.
Vandewiele’s father and sister fought back the tears during an interview as they expressed how worried they are.

“Erin we just want you to know there are so many people helping us look for you,” said Mandi Schmidt, her sister.

The man, Joe Mayer, was arrested on outstanding warrants that are unrelated to this case and he was brought back to Wisconsin to face those charges. Vandewiele, however, was nowhere to be found.

Her family traveled to Colorado at the beginning of this month in hopes of finding some clues about her disappearance.

On Wednesday, the search for her was over after police said they had found her safe. Police did not provide any other details as to where she was found or why she went missing.
