CO - Father Robert Whipkey for indecent exposure, Frederick, 2007

Yeah. Because you never hear about married people being pedophiles and rapists.

Wasn't there another thread for this? I looked for it but it may have been deleted.

I didn't say that at all. I just said the celibacy issue COULD be the reason some of them do this. Like I said, I do know a priest who is FAR from being a weirdo...but it's a shame a good man like him can never marry and have a family....we need good men like him both in the priesthood and to marry and procreate.

Of course you do- but you also hear about [Catholic] priests doing no end of sicko acts- like in the article I posted.

It is not normal not to have sex.

“These kinds of cases are very, very difficult,” Moorhead said.
It’s particularly difficult because a conviction on indecent exposure puts the person in the same sex-offending status regarding public reporting as, for example, a person who commits rape or makes a sexual advance on a child.

In this case, indecent exposure may have nothing to do with sex, Moorhead said.

Whipkey, known by parishioners as Father Bob, told officers June 22 that he was jogging nude because wearing clothing makes him sweat profusely.

You know what... I don't care. anyone who jogs naked has a screw loose... he shouldn't be a priest, and shouldn't be allowed around children. It doesn't seem hard to me! That sounds like a 'special' statement since he is a priest! It isn't hard... and they wouldn't say that if it was anyone but a priest! Oh please! I have heard of people getting charged with indecent exposure for making whoopee in the backs of their cars with their own spouse in empty parks, and getting caught by the police on patrol... my opinion? Get a room! of course you should get charged No one said "oh, it is so hard because this will make them a sex offender." they threw the book of at them... and rightfully so! and this guy was JOGGING NAKED. I'm sorry... but he has a major short circut if he thinks that that is ok.

If the Church would allow priests to marry and have normal lives, they wouldn't do weird stuff like this, or there would be a LOT less of it. .

Not necessarily.
Q. If priests could marry, wouldn’t that solve these sex scandals?
A. No. Most pedophiles are married men. So, marriage does not cure pedophilia. This is a sexual disorder that is not easily eradicated. A few years ago many prominent married Protestant pastors were involved is sex scandals. No one called for abolishing the institution of marriage or for the Protestant churches to have their ministers remain celibate. The cause and effect relationship just doesn’t exist between celibacy and sexual perversion.http://bfhu.wordpress.com/2007/05/06/married-priesthood-and-sex-scandals/

Do you think maybe he's done this so many times (and never got caught) and maybe got WHIPLASH and it distorted his "head" into thinking it was okay?

After all, we ALL KNOW that's where a man's "brain" is located.

Just asking....that's all.

Investigator: Cops Checked Out Report of Naked Colorado Priest in 1999

Tuesday, August 14, 2007 (AP)

DENVER — A priest accused of jogging in the nude came to the attention of police eight years ago when some boys reported seeing him shaving while naked, a state investigator said.
Former Sterling Police Chief Larry Graham, who now works for the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, told the Rocky Mountain News in Tuesday's editions that he checked out the reports about the Rev. Robert Whipkey in 1999.
Graham said no complaint was filed, and he concluded no crime had been committed.
Whipkey did not immediately return a message left Tuesday at the rectory in Frederick, his most recent assignment. The Archdiocese of Denver had no immediate comment, a spokeswoman said.

and

Graham said he checked out the 1999 reports after some 11-year-old boys returned to Sterling from a summer camp and said they had seen Whipkey unclothed at the camp.
It's not clear where the camp was. Whipkey was assigned to a Sterling church that year, the archdiocese said.
Graham said the boys told him there was no sexual contact.
"I asked people and assured myself that no crime had been committed," Graham said. "If I had heard something that could have led to criminal charges, I would have pursued it."
Graham said there are no reports on the case because he never formally investigated it.

Well, those boys might be talking now, and they aren't minors anymore. Maybe someone will believe them this time, if they were telling the truth.

That sure was interesting.

So these kids came back from camp with the story that they had seen the priest naked while he was shaving.

And by all of their accounts there was no sexual contact.

What makes you think they are all hiding something? Just because he's a priest? It makes me think that Father Bob is a little weird about liking to be naked and they walked in on him in the bathroom at camp.

I agree that he has some issues about clothes (he should just move to VT) but what makes you want to accuse him of being a pedo?

Ok, maybe I need to read this better, but was he like in the river naked shaving or a public place? Because umm... a lot of people attend to their hygiene in the buff if they are in the bathroom, right? I must be missing that... but I STILL think this guy need to be thrown in the slammer. I don't care if his weight caused him to sweat or not if he wore clothing!!! If was him standing in a public bathroom (which we had in our camps) for every boy in the dorm to walk in on him... that is wildly inappropriate.

I don't recall saying this guy is a pedo. I said that the boys aren't minors now and that they can tell what they saw and maybe someone will believe them.

Well, I don't know if he's a pedo, but he's definetly got a screw loose! Lock him up and throw away the key before he even glances at one of my kids!

Sorry if I misunderstood you. I took your quote above (maybe someone will believe them "this time") to mean that you thought something happened in 1999 and no one did anything about it. The sherriff clearly states that the boys said there was no sexual contact, he asked questions, and found nothing illegal to pursue.

I was just bothered by the implication that there was some cover up.

Sorry.:truce:

I knew there was a reason I wasn't Catholic, LOL. :D

No worries! :blowkiss: I had to go back and read what I said! lol

This line cracked me up though:
"I was just bothered by the implication that there was some cover up."

I wish he had been covered up! hee hee

Seriously though, I think something's wrong with this guy. His background certainly should be looked into. I hope he didn't knowingly expose himself to those boys.

This man is an adult and he is aware his behavior is totally inappropriate. I don't know any man who takes it upon himself to jog in the nude or preen himself in the nude where there are children present. These are definite red flags, IMO. They need to file appropriate charges and go from there to investigate his background ASAP. Priest or no Priest...his behavior is far from innocent!

Maybe Father Bob thinks clothes are "restricting." I know that's a poor joke, but after everything I have been through this week, I had to make an attempt.

I do think Father Bob has a screw loose though.

And when I was growing up in Frederick, he most definitely would have been noticed jogging nekkid!

Hi tez! :blowkiss:
You have my permission to joke about anything you want!
God Bless you and your family.

I'm with you, tez. I think Father Bob has some sort of mental problem. I know some nudists and my town has its own nudist hotel. The nudists I know don't run around in public without their clothes on (unless they are in areas specifically dedicated to that purpose and shielded from the outside world); they know the legal boundaries.
