An FBI agent who unintentionally shot someone while dancing at a Denver bar is due in court Wednesday to face a second-degree assault charge. Chase Bishop, 29, turned himself in Tuesday to Denver police

The off-duty agent was showing off his moves in the center of a dance circle at Mile High Spirits bar on June 2 when he launched into a back handspring. During the move, a firearm fell out of his waistband holster and onto the floor. Bishop moved to pick the weapon up and unintentionally fired one shot. He then put the gun back in his pants and walked away with his hands up. One person was struck in the lower leg and was expected to survive.

Probably not too good for his FBI career, assault charge and all.

Totally irresponsible gun owner and IMO should be immediately fired from his job. He has proven he cannot safely keep his weapon.

Its bad enough he does some sort of crazy dance move when he has a weapon on him but then when he picks up the weapon he grabs it by the trigger. It also showed he probably did not have the safety on and a bullet in the chamber which is another no-no.
If he wants to keep a bullet in the chamber then at very least he should have had safety on. I dont think the impact of the gun hitting the floor made the safety turn off. I think he did not have safety on at all. Crazy stuff.

Totally irresponsible in many ways.

What an idiot. Not one mistake but a series...

They should probably go back to revolvers.

I agree. I actually prefer revolvers because at least for me I feel much safer with them and if you are going to fire a revolver you usually have to take affirmative action on it.

Thank you JerseyGirl for this news article:

Dancing FBI agent who shot someone appears in court on assault charge - CNN

It's a wonder someone wasn't more seriously hurt or even killed. This very well could have been the result. Fortunately it wasn't.

I hope the assault charge is looked at in a very serious manner. Just to think that the man he shot could have "bled to death" is so awful as a main artery was hit.

From the news article:
"An attorney for the wounded man told CNN affiliate KMGH that the bullet hit a main artery and that his client could have bled to death if someone had not applied a tourniquet to his leg."

So the incident happened on Sat. June 2 and he turned himself in
on Tues. June 5- there goes any tox results.
He knew to delay turning himself in due to his probably having
high alcohol in his system.

Also, the man who was wounded will possibly have a very painful process during the recovery of his leg.

How about the incident happened on June 2 and today is June 13 and so many folks are just learning of this. I saw the video last week and aside from being stunned by what happened, I was more stunned by the lack of anyone doing anything - at any level - until he turned himself in.

I just don't have words. (ok, yes, I do, but really, what can you say? No explaining, no excusing... sad and disgusting IMO)

The off-duty FBI agent is now allowed to travel while out on bond.

His attorney asked that Bishop be allowed to travel because he lives and works in Washington, D.C. Prosecutors did not object.

Bishop, 29, was off-duty and on vacation when the shooting happened.

The FBI is conducting an internal investigation into the incident. Among the options are termination, suspension or reprimand.

Dancing FBI agent loses gun during backflip, accidentally shoots bar patron

The linked article is from 6/3 (the day after the shooting) and says that authorities are awaiting blood test results to see if alcohol was a factor.

So it sounds like they either took blood from him right after the shooting or had the expectation that the local FBI would after releasing him to them, although the way it's written does allow for the possibility that they did not (which if that's the case would be profoundly stupid).

ETA: I've been to Mile High Spirits before and they literally only serve liquor there, one mixed drink at that place would be likely to put you right around the legal limit for driving (especially in Denver drinking at altitude when you're not used to it). I'll be surprised if he wasn't substantially higher than that.

Wow, yeah, another responsible gun owner strikes again, and this one paid by our federal government. Awesome. He should be charged with leaving the scene and/or not providing aid. Like, him leaving the scene should be considered obstruction of justice IMO because he clearly waited until his tox tests would come back clean. I hope they test his hair. And he absolutely should be fired. Yes, I maybe laughed while reading the opening post to my coworker, but it's very serious and should be treated as such. What an asshat.

I can't help but wonder if someone had been killed by this irresponsible gun owner and trained FBI agent, if things might be different now. IMO it is just as if. I'm outraged.

The one bad thing about the revolver is 6 shots and then reload which in itself can be clumsy. Not sure but I think they switched to 9 mm after FBI agents were grossly overpowered by the 2 bank robbers in Miami (mid 80s?). Can't recall but I'm thinking 3 agents were killed in a shootout with the bank robbers.
