Sgt. Yoder says a flyer was brought to his attention: #GannonStauch. "There were some similarities between the picture and the actual body. Dental features, height, weight, approximate age," says Sgt. Yoder. He's never seen a body from another state in his jurisdiction.
@KOAA
--
Yoder said clothes on the body lead them to identify it as a male, they guessed it was someone 9 to 14-years-old. Said there was an imprint in the ground consistent with someone dropping the suitcase off of the bridge by an emergency pull-off area.
https://twitter.com/fierronicole/status/1435985996105990150?s=21

Yoder said they went on the missing persons database and saw pictures of Gannon. Noticed similar dental, height and weight features.

The body had a fractured skull, a gunshot wound to the jaw, two stab wounds on the chest and back and other sharp force wounds, Yoder said. That body was confirmed to be Gannon's by DNA evidence, Yoder said.

The gunshot wound was to #Gannon's lower left jaw area. There was a projectile recovered from his skull. That was sent to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. During an X-ray, two projectiles were found in a pillow.
--
Gannon suffered a gunshot wound to his jaw, and apparent stab wounds to his chest and back, Yoder testifies. His skull was fractured. He also had injuries on his hands and arms that appeared to be defensive wounds, Yoder testified.
https://twitter.com/shellybradbury/status/1435986997319897088?s=21

Gannon was wrapped in bedding, including a comforter and a pillow, Yoder testifies. The pillow had two bullets in it. Investigators also recovered a bullet from Gannon's skull.

Family members are embracing one another and bowing their heads to avoid looking at the screen right now as court views pictures of the suitcase body was found in under Florida bridge. @KDVR

--
The bridge where the body was found is about a mile long over a wide river, and it would be difficult to tell at night where the water was under the bridge, Yoder testifies. Prosecutor Dave Young implies that whoever dumped the body intended for it to end up in the river.

We are seeing a picture of a pillow and blankets found in the suitcase along with the body. There are little blue sharks on them.

Clark talks about on January 28th, a neighbor's surveillance shows the Volkswagen Tiguan leaving the home. This was the footage I exclusively shared with you first back in 2020. A car tracker also shows the car heading to the airport after leaving the home at 8:13 am.

Clark says surveillance video shows #leteciastauch going to a car rental kiosk at the airport that morning at 8:41 am. Internet searches from 7:17 look for cheap rental cars in Colorado Springs. She picks up a white Kia Rio.

Clark says she picks up Al in rental car and heads back to their home.

Clark says same day at 7pm, defendant returns rental car to airport, gets in her WV Tiguan.

For 55 minutes, Stauch is communicating primarily with her then 17-year-old daughter, Harley Hunt. 10:50-11:30 PM: VW goes down I-25, exits Garden of the Gods, turns east onto Austin Bluffs, travels back to Woodmen... ends at Massage Envy on Powers, where Harley worked.
@KOAA

Maps show her path from Falcon out east, heading west to county line road in Palmer Lake area. This whole time, about 2 hours, her phone is in airplane mode. At 9:51 pm, her phone connects to WiFi at Hilton hotel in Briargate and then to a Starbucks Wifi at Briargate Shops.

We're back in the courtroom. I've attached a link to our @KKTV11News web story as well that will have the full rundown after today.

Both attorneys are here, about to get started! Was just warned again about keeping my keyboard "clicking" quiet

"All rise"

We're back for #LeteciaStauch's preliminary hearing for the murder of #GannonStauch

Next witness coming up.
Sgt. Rozario Hubbell with @EPCSheriff takes the stand. Been with the office for 14 years.

He works with major crimes, which, this counts as.

He monitors all the detectives, he's not out there himself, but he's collecting their data and sorting it. "Has an overview of the case as it unfolds."
They're going over the specifics of when major crimes became involved from a missing person's case to something more.

He says he's the one who sent more deputies out "to follow up."
Hubbell says this eventually evolved into a homicide case (we know.)

Says they had access to #LeteciaStauch's phone, and there were photos of #GannonStauch taken in his bed in his room.

Not sure where they are going with it but they are submitting the evidence.
Exhibit 29:

Photo in Gannon's room in the morning of the 27th. Sheets are off the bed. Morning light is peaking through
Exhibit 30: Gannon asleep in bed. The blanket he is in is one of the blankets we saw earlier from the suitcase. Gannon is in blue PJs. Bedding on the base seems to be the blue shark bedding we also saw, a little hard to tell. But the blanket is 100% the blue and red one.

"Based on this photo is Gannon alive in this photo at 8:15 this morning (27th of January 2020)?"

"Yes he looks alive"

"No major wounds that I can see."
Exhibit 31: Another shot of Gannon sleeping. this is closer, and we can see his head on his pillow.

"The pattern on the pillow is consistent with the photos from the suitcase. It's apparent we are looking at the same bedding (as from the suitcase)."

Exhibit 29: Photo in Gannon's room in the morning of the 27th. Sheets are off the bed. Morning light is peaking through

xhibit 32: Another photo of Gannon in bed from the base, showing that red and blue blanket. Not sure why she was taking these photos but sure is making this easy to compare the photos from Florida and his bedding in Colorado. Which again, is grisly, but seemingly damning.

Exhibit 31: Another shot of Gannon sleeping. this is closer, and we can see his head on his pillow. "The pattern on the pillow is consistent with the photos from the suitcase. It's apparent we are looking at the same bedding (as from the suitcase)."

"Based on this photo is Gannon alive in this photo at 8:15 this morning (27th of January 2020)?" "Yes he looks alive" "No major wounds that I can see."

Exhibit 31: Another shot of Gannon sleeping. this is closer, and we can see his head on his pillow. "The pattern on the pillow is consistent with the photos from the suitcase. It's apparent we are looking at the same bedding (as from the suitcase)."

So the bedding you got from Florida are consistent with the bedding in these photos." "Yes."

@4thJudicialDA
says "do you recall in the body camera footage the bedding was there?" "It was not." "So the bedding was changed?" "It appears so."

On Feb 3rd,
@EPCSheriff
went back, they had moved to a homicide investigation. Concerned there was foul play and were looking for blood evidence. They went to the house looking for Gannon's blood. Up until that time, they collected a pair of women's Nike shoes but that's all.

Hubbell is now verbally describing the Stauch home in detail. We saw this on the body camera. Says Gannon's room is indeed, in the basement.
--
The blanket covering #GannonStauch in the photos off #LeteciaStauch phone match the blanket found in Florida. Sgt. Hubbell talks about the patterns of the blankets. He is explaining there are two blankets wrapped around Gannon which are consistent with the 2 blankets found in FL.

Sgt. Hubbell said the bedding in the deputy body cam video of Jan. 27, 2020 was different from the bedding of #GannonStauch laying in his bed seen in photos from #LeteciaStauch phone from that morning. He is describing the layout of the home.

Corner of the carpet in Gannon's room was exposed to see if there was a saturation. A stain went through the carpet, through the foam and onto the cement. DNA was swabbed and matched #GannonStauch. His bed was removed that covered the stain.

Exhibit 34: This is a rough one. A close up of the mattress corner while they were taking it out of the room. There is a large blood stain, light, yellow to orange colored. Tested for blood, positive for blood. DNA was tested, matched Gannon.

We're now looking at exhibit #33. His bed has been removed and there's yellow tape on the walls bordering an area. "Those areas inside the yellow are blood splatter marks." (There's also markers next to the marks to help investigators id the spots.)

They brought the Metro Crime Lab on scene - they're crime scene collection experts.

They use Bluestar for presumptive blood tests, which can be sprayed to show illumination, indicating either a presumptive positive hit for blood or an area that's been cleaned.
A new picture shows #Gannon's bedroom, without a bed in it. The carpet has been ripped up in the corner that was under his bed. Underneath it, there's a stain, which came back positive for Gannon's blood.

There is a border on the wall, encapsulating blood splatter marks. @KOAA
The bed was covering the stain, which leaked through the carpet, and all the way to the concrete underneath it.

"The stain saturated the carpet, and the pad, and went directly to the concrete," said Sgt. Hubble.

"Before this carpet was pulled, there was no visible blood."
That portion of carpet appeared matted and crusted, before they pulled it up. It was stiff to the touch.

Sgt. Hubble wanted the carpet pulled back to know how much blood had soaked through. It was apparent to him the carpet had been cleaned, but not the padding or the concrete.

Hubbell tells
@4thJudicialDA
it was clear the carpet had been cleaned, but that the padding under it and the cement underneath was not. Says the carpet was "matted and crusty." "Carpet was stiff to the touch, asked my guys to look into it and we peeled it back."

@4thJudicialDA
is asking about wood working, (we know Al does a bit of carpentry on the side.) Says there was a lot of wood in the garage.

Exhibit 36: First clear Blue Star reaction we can clearly see on that little rug at the bottom of the stairs. It looks a lot like bio-luminescence at sea, imagine glowstick navy blue splotches all over the rug. "Positive for Gannon's DNA, it's his blood."

"Did you notice a pattern of blood throughout the house?" Hubbell says they started in garage, went to laundry room, hits led to the hallway, then living room, followed down stairs, more hits, past basement family room, through storage room...to Gannon's room.

A gun was found in the family's master bedroom, on top of a dresser, Hubbell testifies.

Letecia Stauch's DNA was found on the gun, a 9mm handgun. Al's DNA was also found on the DNA, but Letecia's was on the trigger guard and back of the gun.

Exhibit 38: Master bedroom photo. We're seeing a bed, two night stands, and a TV on top of one of them. "Was a gun recovered from this room?" "Yes."

-
EPSO was sent three projectiles from the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office. Sgt. Hubble says they believe the 9 mm gun was used to fire the rounds collected in Florida.

Particularly, the one recovered in #Gannon's head was consistent with the firearm.

Hubbell says there was a issue with one of the camera's they were using during that visit. Says their was an issue with the aperture settings (which controls how bright a photo is) on the camera. At some point the camera crapped out and they started doing hand drawn diagrams.

"There was some worry you contaminated the scene in Gannon's room?" "Yes i touched the carpet with an un-gloved hand." "there's a lot in the report about it." "Yes I wanted to own up to that, make sure that my guys could learn from it, and if my DNA showed up, that's why."
--
Back to #GannonStauch room, with a naked eye Sgt. Hubbell said you couldn't see the blood on the carpet. However, he said the stain on the cement you could visibly see, there was no agent added to it.

Sgt. Hubbell wanted to make it clear that when he touched the carpet he contaminated the scene and it was a mistake and made it known in his report. He, however, wore gloves when looking at the gun.

BACK IN COURT: #LeteciaStauch is on Webex and is waiving her right for a preliminary hearing for her escape case. The judge will come back on Sept. 23 at 9 a.m. to make a ruling. @FOX21News

Judge Gregory Weirner said he has a ton of notes and wants to get it right. So he wants time to put it together. There are a lot of charges. There was much of the evidence that he hadn't heard before.

DA Michael Allen is asking if the judge will make a private Webex for the family members who are out of state. He said logistically yes it's possible, but he is not sure if it complies with the laws of the court. The judge will have to think about it. There is no objection.

DA Allen asked if they could listen in to the hearing like a conference call. The judge said no because he worries about people recording the call.
