I'm not understanding your point.
A local person told me that it is a 45 minute drive from CS to Castlerock.
You made a reply saying it was 20 minutes to Palmer which you state is half way between both towns.
We're trying to find Gannon's body here and we have a time window to work with, a possible murder weapon and the child's sock. The bloody wooden stick was located in Mitchell's wood, his body may be somewhere on that route.

Google Maps says it is 27 minutes from Palmer Lake to W Bijou St in Colorado Springs. It is one hour from Lorson Ranch to Castle Rock (Google Maps). You cannot judge the distances involved based on downtown Colorado Springs because Lorson Ranch is an almost half hour drive to downtown Colorado Roads Springs. It's much more conveniently located to the airport and some of the military bases than it is downtown Colorado Springs.

I don't know about other states, but when I received my teachers certification I was not fingerprinted and was not required to have any background checks. I just needed the appropriate degrees, completion of student teaching, and a child abuse course required by the state.

It was only when I applied to schools that I needed to be fingerprinted and had to pay for an FBI and criminal background check. I'm not sure what year they started doing this but the first time I had one was around 2003. You need to do it for each school district and state and I think it's only good for a year. So if you still aren't teaching after a year I'm pretty sure you have to get another one before you get hired.

I'm not sure how she was able to get around this, but maybe the name change had something to do with it. Or maybe since she wasn't convicted with a felony she was able to explain away the charges. I don't know because I have never been charged with a misdemeanor so I don't know how a school board would handle that. Maybe it's up to the individual district.

Imo

Both Colorado and South Carolina currently require fingerprints and a background check for teacher licensure. Her one adult non-traffic conviction appears to be a misdemeanor (reduced from felony grand larceny.)

I expect the records of many educators and other licensed folks aren't as squeaky clean as we'd like. On the other hand, the idea of blocking licenses for charges without convictions isn't appealing either. It's a bit of a dilemma.

Neighbor with video evidence in Gannon Stauch case reacts to stepmom’s arrest
Snipped
Roderrick Drayton says he knew Letecia had something to do with Gannon Stauch’s disappearance. Until Monday, he had been hoping that -- somehow, some way -- Gannon was still alive.

Drayton’s video shows Gannon leaving with his stepmom, but Drayton says Gannon was nowhere to be seen when Letecia returned.

“I watched the video,” Drayton said. “I could slow it down, speed it up. I know he didn’t come home with her. I knew something — she [had] done something with him or to him.”

Drayton started reviewing footage after a knock on the door from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

“I just kept looking through video,” he said. “Hundreds of clips. Until I found it.”

so impressed with his effort- I can see why it was the break LE needed knowing what we know now

I posted this earlier on the thread that just got closed - so I'll post for you all that are just waking up! :)

Tuesday, March 3rd:
*First Court Appearance (@ 9am ET) – SC/CO – Gannon Stauch (11) (missing Jan. 27, 2020, Colorado Springs, not found) – Letecia Lynn Stauch (36) arrested (3/2/20) & charged (1/27/20) with 1st degree murder of a child under 12, child abuse leading to death, tampering with deceased human body & tampering with evidence. Held without bond.
Monday, 1/27/90 left home on foot around 3:15 p.m. to go play at a friend's house, his parents say, but never came home. LE calling him a runaway because allegedly the last search on his phone was “can my parents track me if my phone is off.” His phone was left at the house. A little after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, 1/28/20 the El Paso County Sheriff's Office showed up at Gannon's home. Law enforcement walked up to the home and appeared to be searching in the backyard with flashlights. The garage door was opened and a car was pulled out. On Monday, 2/3/20, Roderrick Drayton, a neighbor of Stauch’s, shared surveillance video from his home that captured footage of what he says shows Stauch and his stepmother, Leticia Stauch, getting into a red truck in the driveway of their Colorado Springs home on Monday, Jan. 27 @ 10:13am – the day the boy went missing. The video later, Drayton said, shows the truck returning hours later (@ 2:19pm) but with only the stepmother appearing to get out.
3/2/20 Update: Stepmother, Letecia Stauch, arrested on suspicion of murder in Myrtle Beach, SC. Charges: 1st degree murder of a child under 12, child abuse leading to death, tampering with deceased human body & tampering with evidence. Held without bond. First court appearance via jail video on 3/3/20.

Well, now that you mention it, a thing that hindered my search for court records greatly was that she had several dates of birth and I could not validate literally anything. I think her dob may not even have appeared on her latest arrest.. now she's either been born several times or she has managed to game the system.. I had the info from the first week but the conflicting dobs threw me off completely.

I want to see that, any idea of gmt time Kyte?

well it starts at 9am Mountain Time, so for Latvia it will be 5pm here & I'm 2 hours ahead of you - so at 3pm England time! :)

Oops - my mistake - Riga is 9 hours ahead of Mountain time - so that makes it my time 6pm - so 4pm England time or GMT.

I thought she never was able to actually teach. And she blamed it on Landon. Something about her having a relative that blocked her job.

But my DD is currently in college in PA for teaching. She has had to have fingerprints done and an annual background check. From first semester. Also a TB test and flu shot each year. She has been in classrooms since first semester though.

It was such an emotional day yesterday for all involved in this case. I was hoping that they had found Gannon but maybe this week it will happen and the family can lay little G-man to rest.

Such strength was shown by the parents at such a difficult and emotional time. I know that I would have never been able to do that.

Kids worry about a monster under the bed. How sad that Gannon was living with one.

This is going to be very emotional for AS knowing he brought her into their lives. But he is not to blame..only TS has committed the terrible deed.

Sending hugs to everyone as we realize Gannon will never walk through the door again.

>>>Snipped by me<<<

I'm sorry, I can't answer that in terms of the military.

I can understand why she could get a teaching license though. One conviction as an adult (with proper remorse shown in likely required statement of explanation to the licensure board) would not have barred her from getting a license. Many of the reported arrests never resulted in convictions.

I hope someone else can weigh in on military stuff. It's a good question.

I'm a retired submarine Sailor who carried various levels of security clearances...the only time a family member (and friends for that matter) is looked at is when you initially do your clearance paperwork...it's crazy...you have to list all family members, friends, past addresses from even when you were a child, elementary schools, etc...then again, you'll do an abbreviated security clearance package at set intervals (5-10 years) and you do the same stuff all over again...So, if Al already had his clearance when he married LS then she never would have been checked. All he would do is add her to his benefit paperwork....

Missing Boy Gannon Stauch's Stepmother Letecia Stauch Arrested, Facing Murder Charges

Not sure if this article has been posted yet. It made no sense that LS was so responsive on social media, but didn't respond to the CCTV the neighbor had of her leaving with GS and not returning. I'm super late to the party on this one, it was another Websleuth member that brought it to my attention. I hope she gives up the location of the body, but I cant help but still think perhaps he's not deceased, but she's sold him. I hope I'm wrong, no matter what it's a lose lose situation for the family.

Shockingly sad. Heart goes out to the family.

Well, at least there are some sort of background checks.
There was a time teachers weren't even required to pass an exam, let alone submit to being fingerprinted and having a thorough background check. That was before my time, though. Still, some teachers manage to slip through the cracks somehow.

I'm not sure if TS ever actually taught in a classroom with actual students outside of student teaching.

I wonder if the child abuse course is required in SC or Colorado. If so, how ironic that she would spend so much time learning to look for signs of child abuse and then later abuse her own stepson.

Either way, she knew enough not to send him to school or take him to a Doctor or she would be found out.

I'm sure LE looked into his school records and interviewed teachers and maybe friends of Gannon. I bet his little sister was able to provide LE with a lot of details about how Gannon was treated at home.
