Does this mean the jaw bone was recently found separately from the other remains? I'm speculating that the suitcase split/popped open upon impact of being thrown from bridge height above. But I would've thought that LE would've scoured the entire surrounding area for any possible additional evidence! Unless it was found in a totally different area
And what in the heck's the deal with the autopsy?!?!?!? I mean they added additional charges when they found his body based on SOMETHING! So why no autopsy report yet?

She is going to go for the Academy Award in trying to get them to declare her mentally incompetent! She's an idiot, completely lacking a conscience, but she knows right from wrong and she knew enough to cover up the crime, move the body, and not cooperate with authorities or the investigation.......NOPE, NOPE, NOPE! She's definitely competent to stand trial for her heinous actions!

JMO that they don’t have the complete/officially signed autopsy because they don’t have lab and other reports back. I think they have a pretty good idea of cause and manner of death.

I can’t help but think that either:

1. LS is doing everything in her power to demonstrate (or should I say, fake) insanity to aid her in her trial, including but not limited to her attack on LE en route back to CO, and this most recent planned escape. Surely she wouldn’t really believe that she could have passed all of the notes around under the radar, and surely she didn’t believe she could actually escape? Perhaps she wanted to be caught, so her defence could claim her behaviour points to insanity? Perhaps what we are seeing isn’t stupidity but a series of planned actions to make herself appear insane. Or...

2. She is mentally ill beyond the obvious narcissistic personality disorder and perhaps she is genuinely insane? I’ve wondered about schizophrenia and psychosis, and that psychotic delusions are a possible reason for her behaviour. Those suffering with psychotic delusions see and believe things which are not real - perhaps her delusions caused her to believe that Gannon was evil? Perhaps she believes LE are out to kill her, hence the planned escape? That said, generally those suffering from Schizophrenia and/or psychosis are not actually violent individuals, they just have a warped sense of reality.

Perhaps what we have been seeing isn’t stupidity and a lack of intelligence, but someone who has no self awareness due to a severe mental illness that goes beyond plain narcissism.

When I saw the pics of her face from the court appearance (I don’t recall the date), I’m unsure whether what I’m seeing is pure and undeniable anger and evil, or whether I’m seeing someone who is genuinely insane. All I know is that based on the look on her face, I would have NOT wanted to be alone in a room with her.

I have a feeling that her trial is going to be a Jodi Arias take 2.

She’s not insane. And some schizophrenics can be dangerous especially if they have paranoid delusions. Remember the schizo guy in NYC who pushed the random subway rider onto the tracks, killing him.

JA was classic borderline. Julie Scheneker had confirmed diagnosed bipolar depression most of her life, for which she was being treated. Neither of them were considered incompetent to stand trial or insane. JS doesn’t even remember the day she killed her kids. No way will TS get a mental health cop out. Everything she did was calculated, orderly and planned. She clearly knew right from wrong, as is evidenced by her many many attempts at concealing evidence.

Not me. With borderline they are afraid of losing people. She juggled more guys than a circus clown at once according her to ex, and she was trying to get rid of AS and find a new mark before the murder. They also struggle with identity. From what little we actually know about her personality, I don’t see that feature at all. I just think she’s a poorly educated rebellious desperado. This could explain her distorted speech patterns and train of thought. Sometimes criminals are just out for themselves, come hell or high water. In fact, I think most are.

JA was out for revenge. Peterson and Watts out for what they saw as a “better life” and Julie Scheneker really had no motive, that’s why I think they got it wrong in her case. I do think she was insane at the time of crime like 3 different doctors testified to. The public was out for blood tho and wanted a conviction. In the case of TS I think it was either a cover up to prevent her from losing her livelihood or a vengeance killing to get back at AS for some reason, or maybe both.

I hope and pray you're right! Some people just act crazy so they don't have to go to prison. Hopefully they'll be able to tell the difference, because there's no doubt that she'll be acting as crazy as a loon, because it's her one and only shot to escape life in prison. IMO she'll put on a show and act like she's lost her flipping mind.

As of a week ago I don’t believe they had yet settled on a course of action for trial. She definitely won’t plea tho. She’ll fight it to the death, no matter the advice. Look how how anxious she is to get out.

One trait that I see in her just based on my personal experience is hypermania. She's always scheming, talking, lying, driving, can't sit still type of behavior that my ex-boyfriend used to display. He was always going a mile a minute with this insane level of energy that I can't even explain. Going in circles, making a hundred different sets of plans, etc. Just wondering if you saw that in her.

I’ve always believed HH was completely innocent and just an unknowing participant in the cover up. However based on the note, I am now thinking otherwise, unless LS would really try to frame her own daughter? I wouldn’t put it past her. MOO.

My guess is that at first she just asked her for help, without confessing to her, and then later told her everything. But who knows, maybe she just spilled the full 9 as soon as was humanly possible. That’s her ride or die, remember.

If she’s planning an insanity defense, she’d better prepare to be disappointed. She obviously knew right from wrong when she murdered Gannon. Her attempts to cover up her crime, media interviews and other actions showed consciousness of guilt. She can try to play insane but she’ll find herself in a psych ward Being medicated until she regains her sanity. Then they’ll put her on trial.

Gannon Stauch case: Judge orders competency hearing in boy's killing; long delay likely
A judge on Friday granted a defense motion for a competency evaluation for Letecia Stauch, the woman charged in the slaying of her 11-year-old stepson, Gannon Stauch, raising the prospect of a lengthy delay prosecuting the case.

Fourth Judicial District Judge Gregory Werner issued the order at a hearing at which prosecutors announced that a prosecution expert had obtained a portion of remains found last March in Florida and concluded that the remains are those of the boy.

“It is Gannon,” lead prosecutor Michael Allen told the court. Further study was expected on a molar obtained by the prosecution.

A Florida medical examiner handling the autopsy has also tentatively identified the remains as Gannon’s. But the autopsy is not yet complete, Allen said.

The judge’s competency ruling essentially halts the case against Letecia Stauch, 36, until the judge determines whether she is mentally fit to be tried. She is charged with first-degree murder and other counts in Gannon’s killing.

The evaluation will be conducted at the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo. The judge said it was likely to take about 90 days to complete, but Allen acknowledged the timeline could be wrinkled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Werner scheduled a Sept. 8 hearing to receive the state’s competency report.

Prosecutors said in court that if state experts conclude Stauch is incompetent, they will exercise their right under Colorado law to request a second evaluation, resulting in further delays. Any dispute among experts as to Stauch’s mental fitness would be resolved by the judge at a hearing. If Werner finds her incompetent, the charges would remain in abeyance while state psychiatrists provide care meant to restore her mental fitness.

If Stauch is ruled incompetent, she can be held for indefinite treatment — up to the rest of her life — under the first-degree murder charge.

Wearing a standard orange jail jumpsuit with her hands cuffed behind her back, Stauch spoke just once to acknowledge that she had been advised by her attorneys about the effect of their competency challenge, answering, “Yes, your honor.” She sat with her head tilted downward, letting her long dark hair hide her face from the gallery.

The ruling came at a status hearing meant to determine the next steps in the case against her.

During the brief proceedings, prosecutors also filed a new charge against Stauch, solicitation to commit escape, a felony alleging that she offered to pay a fellow inmate up to $75,000 to help her escape from the El Paso County jail.

In the gallery for Friday’s hearing was Al Stauch, Gannon’s father, who was away from home on a military assignment when his son was reported missing by Leticia Stauch on Jan. 27. He filed for divorce after his wife became a suspect. Gannon's mother, Landen Hiott, and aunt, Victoria Birkenstock, were among three relatives who monitored the proceedings via video link, Allen said.

Remains believed to be Gannon’s were found March 18 in Santa Rosa County on the Florida panhandle, east of Pensacola, authorities said.

Investigators suspect the boy was killed with a knife or other weapon while lying on his bed in his basement bedroom, likely on the day he was reported missing, the Sheriff’s Office said in an arrest affidavit.

Authorities haven’t disclosed how they believe the remains ended up in Florida. Letecia Stauch was arrested March 2 in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

During a news conference after the hearing, Allen said he had warned Gannon’s family to expect a slow-moving prosecution, particularly in light of the competency challenge.

“Really, it’s just going to slow things down, tremendously,” he said.
