I didn’t think anyone could beat the court room shenanigans of Jodi Arias but this LS takes the cake.

I think if a defendant decides to wave counsel and represent themselves, that person appears before the jury without prejudicial shackles and prison garb. Which kind of begs the question as to how they treat and handle this lawyer/defendant. Must be very tricky behind the scenes.

The right to appear before a jury in street clothes is already provided for in the US Constitution.

I recall one case where a Judge did not allow the defendant to wear street clothes because his attorney failed to present the clothes to the Jail, and instead presented the clothes through the Court.

Upon appeal, the Supreme Court agreed the defendant was denied a fair trial:

The sole question presented by this appeal is whether defendant was denied a fair trial by the court's refusal to allow defendant to wear civilian clothes because they had not been previously submitted in accordance with a local jail rule. We agree with defendant's contention that the refusal to allow him to wear civilian clothing at trial violated his rights to due process and equal protection.

LS clearly sees the courtroom as her stage, and she's not about to miss this opportunity to star in her own production.
