Letecia Stauch’s letter to judge explains why she wants to represent herself

COLORADO SPRINGS — On Wednesday, the court handling the murder of Gannon Stauch has unsealed a handwritten letter from Letecia Stauch to the judge, asking that she be allowed to represent herself.

Letecia Stauch is accused of killing her 11-year-old stepson Gannon, who she reported missing in late January of 2020. His remains were eventually found in Florida.

Letecia Stauch is charged with:

• Murder in the First Degree (Child Under Twelve – Position of Trust)
• First-degree murder
• Child Abuse Resulting in Death
• Tampering with a Deceased Human Body
• Tampering with Physical Evidence
• Crime of violence (8 counts)

In the letter unsealed by the court, Letecia expressed her concern about her defense attorneys. She said she had concerns about privacy, and their “lack of ability to gather evidence.” Her main points were that communication was broken beyond repair, inconsiderate of evidence, sharing information with family members, and overlooking statute and evidence. She claims she hasn’t seen any evidence in a year.

So if she does have a bio son, how is he relevant here? Describing a child as one’s “bio son” strikes me as how one would describe a son who has since been adopted. JMO. Is this son some kind of witness? (Wouldn’t that make him older than HH?).

Since she seems to differentiate between a bio-son and her step-son in her letter, I don't believe she is referring to Gannon as her bio-son.

Also, according to the AA, para 12., the Stauch family was a blended family of 3 children - two were AS biological children, and one daughter was the biological child of LS.

Both of her letters do this in addition to her poor use of language, spelling, and punctuation. I dont think I've ever seen printing styles switch up like that. It bugs me lol. I recall similar questions asked last year after LS first letter released, and a Master Graphologist provided that many people do that (i.e, handwriting style varies within the same sentence or word), but that each person has his/her own reasons to do that.

The two most common reasons are:

1. Desire to stand out
2. Desire to hide something, hoping that nobody can find out about it.

Speaking from personal experience, I believe your environment, writing utensil, date/time, mood, can all be a factor of what your end product looks like. MOO

Thanks for that insight. That makes sense. I guess if it had to be written quickly or in a state of aggitation, a person wouldnt really care what it looked like. Maybe that's why some of it rambles at times too.

What attorney threatened her in the washroom away from cameras that whole letter is a cluster **** , I really hope that attorney is prepared to step in on day one I can't see her making it threw opening arguments . Jmoo

IMO the linked Affidavit's paragraph 23 says it all.

Leticia lied to investigators on multiple occasions, has unexplained abnormal behavior such as obtaining a rental car, disconnecting her cell phone from the cellular network for an extended period of time, the false reporting of an alleged rape, abnormal patterns of travel, a continuously evolving story with material changes in facts and circumstances, and has since left the state of Colorado.

All the judge has to do is to refer back to this affidavit. A "continuously shifting story" = "a raft of desperate lies". Is it constitutionally acceptable for the judge to respond to this new letter of fantasies with "hey lady, we don't care"? They don't have to reopen a psych investigation, do they? "The psychiatrist was in fact a hired actress" does not, I grant, have any teeth; but do these accusations have to be refuted point-by-point?

I just very quickly read Everyone’s past posts to make sure I’m not stealing anyone’s ideas here so here goes...

The ONLY scenario I can come up with that could possibly be her two damning pieces of evidence that could not be disputed would be ;

• Ed / Eguardo / Edgar’s name is on the cruise passenger list - accommodated in a nearby cabin, no less- maybe sharing a balcony with the Stauches? Cruise ships have CCTV, don’t they?
• Ed/ Eguardo/ Edgar appears on GameStop CCTV on January 27th, grabbing and leaving with dear Gannon

I’m still a little gobsmacked after reading the letter and cannot understand a lot of what is written but just wanted to quickly post what was going through my head...

IMO, this is just another tactic to throw around in her desperate attempt to avoid being held accountable. My guess is that this sudden biological son is fictional and her attorneys started asking her family questions about him, only to be told she only has a daughter. Now, her family is wondering what the heck is going on and TS doesn’t want to discuss it because she knows she will get caught in the lie. She is also trying to leave a paper trail of “proof” of her mental illness, hence these wacky letters to the judge. She still thinks she can talk her way out of anything, since it has worked in her personal life, but the DA has the irrefutable evidence on his side.

I’ve yet to read the letter or y’all’s comments. I’ve only just heard of this sociopath’s new ramblings. I’m sure glad I’ve been on a mini break to rest my brain and enjoy our Spring sunshine. It appears we’re all gonna need some positive energy flowing to get through this haunting exercise of controlling our excess negative emotions. I want to scream out in Gannon’s defense. How much love did he feel in that house? It’s too late for us to help him. We can transform our frustration into a purpose of seeking out other monsters whose names exist in this forum. Every day new threads for neglected, abused and murdered children are launched. Imagine all the existing threads. Must we not forget the old cold cases needing new life. Wondering if “her son’s father” is her forgetting to differentiate *stepson* in this particular paragraph and this where she will sigh as though she has no choice (“fine, judge, I’ll tell you since you ordered me to”) and try to throw AS under the bus, as some predict she will.
The “drugs” could be the bath salts? The “violence” could be the candle incident (will she try for arson and an accident?) We really can’t predict what she’s conjuring up as she seems to jump around with stories that conflict when she feels cornered. I simply cannot believe she made it for almost 40 years without being found out. She’s not even close to being a safe productive member of society.

Take note that Court sealed documents are sealed to all --not just the public. In the case of a court order to unseal a document or letter from the defendant, subscribers typically receive access maybe 24 hours before any public site updated.

Given that it's been well over a week since the document made available (and 3 weeks since the Order signed), I think this a matter where the clerk is simply behind not updating the public "cases of interest site" --last update 3-19-21. (I emailed the clerk this morning).

They are also a “court record” as that phrase is defined in Section 3.03(a)(1) of Chief Justice Directive 05-01 (Amended October 18, 2016). Pursuant to Section 4.10 of CJD 05-01, information in the court record is accessible to the public unless prohibited by Section 4.60. Nothing in Section 4.60 of CJD 05-01 prohibits public access to Stauch’s letter to Judge Werner.

By definition, I don't consider the letter "leaked." It's just not available here pursuant to WS TOS.

Omg, I’m gonna have to take this statement a few sentences at a time. Unpacking her jailhouse letter reminds me she might need additional instruction at her new boarding school. She really is full of herself, isn’t she? She’s not mentally well. Well, no s*! Who is anymore? She’s gonna need to come up with something better than that one-liner. Another lie in second paragraph re: her poor pitiful me mental distress in Charleston, SC...

The South Carolina Board of Education suspended her educator certification to teach in May 2016 for six months for “breach of contract in abandoning her teaching duties” with the district.

Stauch had signed an annual contract with the Marion County School District on June 24, 2015, and had also signed a contract to teach in Charleston, S.C. for the same time period, according to court documents.

Stauch indicated she left because she experienced “harassment and retaliation at requesting to be released from her contract due to a pending military move,” which she said was denied.

Stauch alleged that the harassment and retaliation were due to the district’s superintendent’s niece being her husband’s ex-wife, Hiott.

She threatened to file an equal-opportunity complaint unless she was released from her contract.

“The harassment and retaliation claim was investigated and remains unsubstantiated,” the order of suspension concluded.

Stauch’s certification was suspended for six months in South Carolina. There is no evidence it was reinstated.

Oh, this is tough. I’m trying so hard to slowly absorb this letter, I’ve barely begun. How many pages are there? There is of no way I can do it now with my curious skipping ahead on new comments when I post. A bio son? Y’all are killing me. With her ex? The one that died? Could this be why the ex’s folks were so protective of his memory and their own privacy? What? How old would a bio son from that union be? What? No... you’re kidding, right?
