Thinking about the possible involvement of a rental car the day Gannon went missing and how it might fit into the timeline.
The only thing that might make sense to me, is if TS left the house with Gannon at 10:15-ish, drove the truck to the rental car company, parked the truck and took Gannon with her in the rental, did what she did, then took the rental car back, got into the truck and drove home for 2:15-ish.
But even that feels like a stretch. Why bother with a rental at all?
Maybe I'm missing something, but I really doubt a rental was used at all.

Those are good points, @MassGuy. And I can't think of a major (Axis I) diagnosis that fits this situation. I deleted the rest of my post, because...I think LS and others may be reading here as well. I think there are things LS could do on SM that would help her case, let's see if she figures it out.

The question of where Gannon is...is not at all simple in my view. We can keep asking the question, but the people who actually have to find him are not finding it simple.

Update February 25

Snipped

"Today marks four weeks since Gannon went missing," the El Paso County Sheriff's Office said in a statement released Feb. 24. "We cannot imagine the ongoing pain Gannon's family must be feeling. To not know where your child is, is every parent’s worst nightmare. To not know what happened makes this situation more excruciating. We acknowledge the grief and heartache his family is experiencing."

Snip

Active searches are no longer going on every day, but the sheriff's office said Feb. 24 that there remained the potential for search efforts to happen at any time.

Searches in Douglas County, which had been a hotbed of activity for several days in February, were suspended Feb. 21.

"Though search efforts in southern Douglas County have been suspended, this investigation is not slowing down," a release from the sheriff's office read. "As previously stated, investigative leads direct search efforts and we have teams available and ready to deploy should the need arise."

The sheriff's office has not disclosed every location it has searched, but it is 11 News' understanding that Douglas County is the furthest north the search has gone.
ENDANGERED: 11-year-old Colorado boy has been missing 4 weeks

I wish we knew why they haven't conducted more ground searches or called upon citizen volunteers to help. If they believe GS did not return with TS on Jan. 27th, why haven't they asked the public if they had seen the vehicle on the day in question?

What do they know, that has caused them to not ask for the publics assistance other than, if you have any tips, please contact...?

Could LE have what they need to arrest LS but are waiting to see if something she says/ does will lead them to Gannon?

IMO that could be a reason.

Obviously I am not a lawyer so this is JMO. I may not have the entire exact details One reason they may not have arrested her yet could be because (depending on what state you're in) specific charges must be filed within a certain time frame after an arrest is made. Just a few months ago in my state, a man murdered, dismembered and buried his estranged wife on his property so he could get custody of his young son. He had to be released from jail before there was even a trial because a judge ruled he could not be held any longer because formal charges were not filed within the required time frame deadline. Not sure what rules are specific to Colorado. But we all want this to be done correctly cause they only have one chance to get it right.

I think a huge key to solving this would be what the daughters have to say.
They would know what state Gannon was in Sunday night... what, if anything, took place that evening, and how he was acting the following morning, how he was normally treated, etc etc etc
Even if LS was trying to hide some things from them, that house isn't that large, and I know from my own experiences as a child, even when things are trying to be hidden kids are a lot smarter than you think they are.

I can think of two potential reasons why they haven’t asked people about the red truck:

They have a good idea where she went, and it’s not necessary.

They know if they ask the public about seeing a red truck, they are going to be overwhelmed with tips, almost all of which would be false sightings (other red trucks).

Nightmare.

Absolutely. That’s precisely why I think crime scene investigators spent so much time in the home.

I think perhaps initially, they were flying blind. It’s possible they returned because one of those kids told them something.

Regardless, there’s no overstating how important the kids are to all of this. They absolutely have to know very important details here.

Either one of those things alone would be concerning, but they occurred simultaneously.
I feel this way about a lot of things in this case, which initially led me to the conclusion that, not only is LS the culprit, this was in some way premeditated.

I really thought for awhile that maybe she was ‘savvy’ enough to plan, pull this off and not get caught, at least temporarily. But, the more she opened her mouth (or typed), all lies and inconsistencies started falling out, I started to wonder if it wasn’t that she is ‘savvy’ enough to pull this off or if she just got really lucky.

I now think it’s honestly just luck. She got lucky that within a couple days of GS disappearance it snowed, and not just a dusting. Which of course makes me unreasonably mad, people who hurt children should not have luck on their side. They deserve the full force of bad karma, hopefully it will catch up to her soon.
That’s basically what happened in the Heather Elvis case. There was one blabber mouth perp who wasn’t nearly as smart as she thought, and the second one was even dumber. They got themselves convicted of kidnapping, it’s obvious enough that they killed Heather, but they managed to do something with her body that in 6 years has never resulted in her being found. And there was no evidence of a murder to even suggest how the end came or where that might have led them to hide her.

Whether they had smart help or got lucky is unknown, but it’s a lucky outcome for them for sure. Sadly, sometimes these people get one thing right despite being relatively dull and dumb.

I keep thinking about the initial description that Gannon had ran away and the details that were given out at that time.
We know he was supposedly going to a friends house.
He didn't have his cell phone.
Other than that, was their a description of what he was last wearing, or at the very least, what shoes he was wearing?
If a kid were in my care on a day to day basis it would be easy to tell what shoes were missing. And, most likely, what clothing.
Any description of anything else that was taken with him or missing from the house? She made a big deal about the gate key, and I know we have discussed that at length, but other than the key has she made a big deal about anything else that could be on or with Gannon?

The question is simple: Where is Gannon?
The answer is simple: Gannon is [insert location]

Figuring out the answer from scratch is not simple. Not at all! LE has a very difficult job with this case.

But I'm very sure LE could find him if someone with the info answered the simple question "where is he?"

I've seen this "Jimmy" mentioned before (which is odd, since the original story was that TS didn't have a name or know which friend Gannon went to go play with), but I don't think I've ever seen a link to where this came from.
Can someone share a link to that please? TIA.
And as nutty as it may sound, I have to wonder if "Jimmy" is actually the Jimmy Camp Creek that runs near their house, and there actually is no Jimmy at all, and never was.

Mass Guy, I agree with your statement. I believe the investigators knew from early on some of the places she was seen in that truck. Cameras are everywhere. I believe they likely have a firm timeline and do realize this is a homicide. JMO.

The statements from the two daughters did help LE, even if they didn’t think they knew much. LE knows SM lies repeatedly. I think LE has statements from people who know SM and have testified about her past behaviors and comments about her step children.

IMO, they are sealing up the case and hoping to find Gannon in the process. The rest of us are just in a wait and see holding pattern.

I am anxious to read her arrest warrant when one is released.

I'm assuming "Jimmy" is being used as a generic friend name. Could be "Johnny" or "Timmy."

That's what I've been assuming anyway.

My opinion. Stepmom would say " I have taken care of and loved those children as my own." NOT in a manner as to insult another person that isn't able to even be with the children due to distance. Almost seems she tried to make it appear they were rescued and she is such a hero to take them in - if she loves them - you don't try to dirty the Biological Mom, God forbid she tried to take true Mommy Love away from them. I hate to say the children were mostly looked at as her little puppets to use as she wished. My opinions. Lots going on in her relationship with husband and Biological mom. Probably angry as well, children are work and she maybe couldn`t handle it and got into some situations where her little puppets got in her way. My thoughts. So sad, want him to have felt loved before missing and to know people love him still and just want some answers.

I’ve never seen anything like it either.

A child is missing, and the priority should be getting the word out. An on camera interview is one of the best ways to do that.

But she didn’t show her face, and the focus was on herself. Either one of those things alone would be concerning, but they occurred simultaneously.

She claimed she didn’t want to be seen because of threats she received. Strangely, her Facebook page was still open, and she was posting for the world to see.

So her reasoning doesn’t only not hold water, but it’s patently absurd.

Not only have I never seen this behavior from an innocent person, but I haven’t seen it from a guilty person either.

Talk about nuts.

I have said this before, but my husband knows I like to repeat myself lol. I really do think she was projecting the assumption 'everyone thinks I am guilty therefore I can't show my face" because she knew she was guilty. At that stage, yes things seemed off with the weird phone search and there was normal "is the parent involved/last person to see him" suspicion, but really nothing too over the top. She easily could have done a normal face to face interview and said the right things about Gannon and probably gained some sympathy. However, she KNEW what she had done and was immediately on the defense and innately knew deception would be all over her face. She is a giant, but terrible liar. I don't buy the death threat worry or she would not include a close up of herself in his missing picture! It was when talking about Gannon that she felt most exposed.

Anyway, the fact that I watched the back of her head give the guiltiest of guilty interviews ever and then she proceeds to give the public a heads up that blood is on tools, in the garage, and on the edge of the car proves that she is ......well I am not going to say the cliche that fits because of the actual situation.....but not bright. I absolutely think she will get caught, but perhaps the amount of blood found so far is a survivable amount(I think that is from an initial non fatal injury and she did something like overdose him later to not leave a mess) and she has Colorado's landscape working in her favor so might take a bit because the body is needed to nail a conviction.

Speaking for myself, I think my resistance to anything "complicated" is because complication = planning. It's hard to accept the idea she might have planned this, rather than his disappearance being a spur-of-the-moment cover-up.

Both are horrible, but intentionally planning his disappearance is beyond evil. And it's easy to resist thinking that level of evil is possible, especially by someone in a mothering role.

I lean toward all this being a hurried cover-up, but I honestly don't know what to think.

:( :(
