The department is unaware of additional risk factors aside from age, she said.

"That's really our only concern, that he's so young," Mynatt said. "It's cold outside, it's going to start getting late here soon. We want to find him, get him home and put him in a safe environment."

Stauch did not report to school today, she added.

Deputies are actively searching for the boy in between calls for service, and the case has been forwarded to major crimes detectives. Such a move is made when additional investigative tools, such as the ability to obtain deleted information off a phone, are needed, she said.

Staff Sgt. Zach Sheely, a spokesman for the Colorado Springs-based Colorado Army National Guard 100th Missile Defense Brigade, confirmed to The Gazette that Stauch's father is a member of his unit but could not provide further information.

"Here at the brigade we're taking this extremely seriously and we're doing everything we can to help the family," Sheely said. "We definitely want to encourage anyone with any information to call that phone number and just cooperate with law enforcement."

Search for missing Colorado Springs boy gets help from out-of-state family

SABBM:

Stauch's mother arrived in Colorado Springs late Tuesday and spent the night talking to law enforcement, Birkenstock said.

"She doesn't have very much, just what she's been told, that no one has seen Gannon since Monday," Birkenstock said.

She characterized Stauch as "a very loving child. Disappearing is totally out of his character; he always has to be with somebody. He's very quiet, very smart."

<snip>

Stauch's mother, who lives in South Carolina, and father, who was away for military training at the time of his disappearance, share custody, she said.

<snip>

Information received during an interview with Stauch's stepmother and other information lead deputies to believe he's a runaway instead of a missing person,
Mynatt said Tuesday, adding that foul play is not suspected.

So, we've now had BOTH of his parents go on the record stating that GS taking off on his own is completely out of character for him.

Regardless of what his parents are saying, LE is going off of their interview with stepmom and "other information" to conclude that he ran away.

LE'd better have some incredibly compelling "other information" here that led them to this conclusion, that's all I have to say.

If LE honestly believes GS ran away, they need to hold a presser, speak to him directly, reassure him that he's not in trouble, and tell him he can call them directly if he's not ready to go home to his parents yet and they'll come get him instead.

The fact that LE hasn't done that here leads me to question whether what they're stating privately is congruent with what they're doing investigatively behind the scenes.

BBM:

It's a"Mystery Friend," apparently
Which is to say, it's a completely fictitious friend.

The only question for me is, did GS invent the story about going to a friend's house, or did someone else invent that story?

Allegedly, GS didn't tell his stepmom which friend's house he was going to.
So there's that.

LE's spoken to his friends, and GS didn't actually make it over to any friend's house that day.

So there's that, too.

This. Sucks.

Vey iz mir.

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.

Terribly, terribly worried for this boy.

LE needs to give stepmom a poly, if they haven't done so already.

It sounds like the account of his movements and activities in the hours leading up to his disappearance are wholly reliant upon her word, and her word alone.

Her word alone ain't good enough.

Any other kids reportedly living in the home, or was it just her and GS there when dad was away?

JMO.
Yes. He has a little step-sister.

I doubt Gannon will remain classified as a runaway much longer than ten to twelve more hours. imo.

I can’t see Batman without thinking of that sweet boy. Not to sidetrack Gannon’s thread. The similarities are there though :(
Other than there being a step-mom in the picture and bio dad being out of town, I really don't see similarities. Maybe they're there and I'm just not seeing them.

Yeah, no... I don't like this.

Thanks.
I'm mainly interested in if this is based on the stepmother's word or if LE have his phone --which I hope is the latter.
Pretty unusual for a kid this age to be missing for so long --if he'd run away and was hiding out at a friend's house-- their parents would have returned him to his home by now. Imo.
Any surveillance cameras or doorbell 'ring' cams in the neighbor's homes ?
It'd show which direction he was walking.
I really need to sit on my hands --- as I feel like he didn't run away.sit on my hands
I don't think he ran away either. Hopefully there are lots of ring/nest type cams in the area.

The Major Crimes Detectives have assumed responsibility for this case, says the Sheriff's Office. They're actively searching for evidence and taking all witness statements at this time.

The Sheriff's Office is asking for anyone with information regarding this case to call their Investigations Tip Line at 719-520-6666 or dial 911, if appropriate.

Sounds like there's been a shift in the case. Major Crimes...

No...just those ones are there. I guess I think of Lucas whenever a situation like his happens. Nothing else makes me feel this way. I don’t think the SM has substance abuse problems like Emily or anything else like that. I just see (from only her FB) that she doesn’t seem as close to Gannon as she is to the other children. For me, I think if he’s being excluded from pics and posts online, what’s he being left out of in real life?
I didn't sleuth step-mom's SM so I can't comment on that, not that we can comment on that here anyway, according to the rules. That said, there are so many lost little boys I think of every time a sweet boy goes missing, so I understand that part, quite well.

Somewhat unrelated but maybe not? is the idea that we can honestly get a good feel for who someone is just based on their SM. Literally nothing could be further from the truth, and while there are loads of examples, the most recent would be the Thomas Valva case NY - Thomas Valva, 8, autistic, died, NYPD father & fiancee arrested, Suffolk Co, 17 Jan 2020 If there were no crime committed and someone came across dad & step-mom's SM, they'd likely just think they were a good looking, happy, blended modern-day Brady Bunch family. Literally nothing stands out to indicate otherwise. But if you read what those monsters did to a sweet little 8 year old boy, you very quickly see they're just more fake people with fake fronts on social media to cover up who they really are. All that to say, I think we should use great caution when assuming character from someone's social media.

From the moment he was missing on Monday -- LE needed to get SAR dogs on his trail.
If Gannon left walking from his house-- the dogs would show where.

Personally I've never believed Gannon was a runaway. I have an age cutoff so to speak on runaways and an 11 year old falls below the range. Period and I don't deviate from it. Too many cases to count have proven the age range is correct.

Not to mention the many other inconsistencies addressed here. MOO

Hey All. I'm following and hoping he's ok. It's not looking good.
On another note, can someone tell me how to "watch" this thread?
