OTOH, there's a law against assault.Civil disobedience is part of democracy, part of the Bill of Rights. There is no law requiring people to stand for the pledge or national anthem.

That's a good question. Was this student exercising his right or just being a smart a**, and trying to push the teachers buttons maybe for a law suit or something?

Again, not taking the pledge is legal. Assaulting a student is a crime of assault.

technically speaking, it was also assault when my principal hit me when I was in grade 4 back in the 70's for misbehaving in school
