The 30 minute video provided by the defense investigators will NOT be shown. Is that correct?

Currently the Gov. in my state opposes DP--and there is a hold on them while he is in office---we have recently had two DP cases, one for sure didn't get DP the other I think they are still trying--Both (imo) deserve it.

Can the governor put a hold on the DP? Is it his choice or should it be a public vote?

Why did JH parents go to a social worker when his behaviour changed at age 8? Why not therapy? Or do social workers do therapy in the U.S.?

Yes, licensed SWs can provide therapy. In fact, I considered getting my master's in SW because there are more options (career wise) than if I were to get a master's in clinical psych. They can open their own counseling practice, work in hospitals, with social services, etc.

Wow, very different to my country!

The judge sustained the prosecution objection so I don't think it will be shown.

Social workers concern about JH was he's non verbal, poor socialization, introverted behaviors & Nintendo obsessed at age 8 #theatershooting

Brauchler reads from report that determined that JH as a child had "oppositional defiant disorder." #theatershooting

Ooooohhh... this is the first I'm hearing of ODD. That dx often evolves into antisocial personality disorder but a medical provider cannot dx someone w/ ASPD until they reach the age of 18.

Yes! Someone else said that earlier on in the thread. So many smart people here! :)

apparently he can and has. Court cases are still going on but there is a stay on executions while he is in office

They don't want to carry out the DP? Or is this to do with the lethal injection? I recall there has been some controversy about the components in the injection.

I think a large part of it is the lengthy appeals process... but that might play a role in it too. They've been having trouble finding a manufacturer who will sell them to the U.S. (All of the current manufacturers are overseas and not proponents of the DP).

I wanted to be a social worker way back when---my dad told me not to---"no money in it"---But that was the area I tested the highest in and interested me the most---sadly I didn't pursue it. Thought that I knew more and golly gee party time! :blushing:

Interesting. So while he is in office nobody will be sentenced to death? Or they can be but it won't be carried out while he is in office?

I think out of all the 3 methods of death the lethal injection seemed to be the most humane (to me). I don't actually know how I feel about the. DP. We don't have it here (UK) so it's not something I have to think about.......

My sister wanted to do social work but ended up doing a different degree. She has worked in social work settings ever since but was restricted in what she could do without the degree. She is going to Uni in September to do a post graduate degree in Social work. She will be 43 when she graduates. She will get there in the end lol!

IIRC, the video was of the def. attys talking to JH. I assume the attys. called it "privileged," so that may be why it is disallowed. Just a thought...

JH swinging in his chair.

I do not think this dr can just answer a question. She talks in circles. MR. B is so patient I do not know how he can do this. The Judge is so patient too and very fair.

How can a person be incapacitated while doing a range of activities?!

JH felt incapacitated and unable to move before shooting but records say otherwise #theatershooting #theatertrial
