Jury could not unanimity agree. There were holdouts, some for some against. If they weren't holdouts, their decision, as a group would have been life. It was not! The jury did not decide life! they could not agree.

I think that is an act....but, what I mean is, there is no guarantee he will never get out of prison.

The upside of this Trial is the world NOW KNOWS the victim's intimately and who they were and what this mass murderer did..and learned about J. about his family, upbringing and so on...So LWOP isn't what I expected..betting there was ONE stealth juror who gave that mercy (not so much to J.) but for his family!!

It's water under the bridge..other than jury out deliberating for another DP right now in same County..BUT doubt there will be many DP cases coming down the road...

My only problem is this was JUST SUCH a heinous crime and carnage..IF NOT THIS CASE..Why bother in future to press such charges??? But this monster will get something that none of his victims have ..Ability to see..interact and touch/hug/ communicate forever more ( at least on this earthly whelm)..

The one thing too is that this gives a green light for anyone who wishes to do such a thing..as they know..they will get LWOP and free room and board and family visits and no doubt marriages, conjugal visits..etc..

Just maybe..J. IF he is so antisocial..will not care whether family visits or not..he will retire to his cell with all the benefits to communicate/write/send messages to whomever ( allowable)...Not such a bad deal for him..HE Knew what he was doing when he surrendered!!

Exactly....he's a really good actor. And, smart. He knew just how to act, what to say, etc. Otherwise, his attorneys would have immediately claimed insanity. They didn't until his plea deal for LWOP was turned down and the state went for the DP. THEN they claimed insanity!

I hope these victims faces haunt whomever decided this monster deserved pity....gag

There are still appeals for LWOP. Why are people saying there are no appeals because he did not get DP????

Well, yeah. They will probably still appeal all kinds of things, but nothing will change the fact that he is going to spend the rest of his life behind bars.

If he had been sentenced to death, it would have been at best a 50/50 chance that he would have actually been executed.

This is a final sentence. A death sentence would not have been final.

I thought you said numerous times you were against the death penalty. You sure don't sound that way here.

ABC7 iss replaying the verdict reading and you can see those couple in the gallery closest to the camera stand up and turn their backs to the court before the first verdict is read, I don't believe it had anything to do with the verdicts.

You guys are aware that once he is sent to prison he is in the custody of the Sheriffs dept they will have control over his life. They will evaluate him extensively and they can still send him to a state hospital for treatment. This happens all the time.

Or a successful appeal. It happens all the time. New trial ordered....out on bond....
Or, lib gov of Colorado decides to pardon....Jimmy has a lot of tricks up his sleeves. No doubt about it

His parents have lots of money. That is a very expensive, exclusive area of San Diego. The homes are beautiful. They own property in BIg Bear Lake CA. They can afford an attorney. Could even be someone to do it pro bono.

No one is doing an appeal of this case pro bono. I guarantee it. Also, Holmes offered to plea for LWOP. Remember that. He has no real motivation to appeal now. He'd never win and he knows it.
