Am I reading incorrectly, or does that map say it would take 10 minutes from the home to the park?

10 minutes if you walk b/c it has you going some crazy route. Click on the walk symbol above the addresses and you will see what I mean.

I wonder what time the call to her home was actually made? 9am, 10am?
Anyway...it was probably far too late, in any case. It would have taken barely a minute to get a child into a car and away from the area. Even thirty minutes would have been too late, if no one saw anything. So yes, time was lost by mom not answering, but I am not sure it would have mattered in the long run.

I can't speak for all school districts but in my kids school district the first call is made about lunch time (between 11:30am and 12:30pm) and the second call, if the child still isn't there, is made about an hour after school releases informing you that your child was absent and an excused absence note needs to be brought to school the following day.

Because kids are often tardy to school, etc. I would bet the school calls are either not made until late morning, at least.

Maybe if you crawled down the street, lol.

Sorry if this has already been posted...but who exactly saw Jessica last ?

BTW, I have felt for a long time now, that no kids should walk to school; unless they are very close to the school, and walk with other kids --not blaming anyone. This world has gone completely nuts.
I don't know if it was better when I was young, but my siblings and I were allowed to walk a mile or so to the neighborhood grocery to buy candy ---and we never worried.

I'm pretty sure the mother saw her last.

The mom stated she got home from work at 7:30 AM and at 8:30 AM stood at the bottom of their driveway and watched Jessica walk until she couldn't see her anymore.

As an FYI, I saw someone post about the severe winter weather... that really isn't expected to hit here in town. There's been really light snow/drizzle all day today, temps in the 30's. The snow isn't even sticking, just melting.

I live about 15 minutes east of where Jessica lives and work about 5 minutes north of there. It really is a great neighborhood and it terrifies me that this happened so close by! Especially seeing as though I have a 9 year old daughter.

My first thought was that a friend's parent saw her and pulled up and offered her a ride to school. I've done that a few times. The other day I dropped off my youngest at grandma's house in the morning, saw the neighbor girl (who we've known for years) and she was walking to the bus stop. I pulled up and asked her if she wanted a ride to the bus stop, and she said sure and jumped in.

I thought, I better be careful, someone's going to think I'm abducting her.

It really would be easy for someone she knew...especially a neighbor or friend's parent...

Hoping any residents with surveillance systems will call LE and let them view them.

Wondering if her little friend that she meets at the park had a cell phone with her and tried to call her house..or the mother's cell when she didn't show up? I know she's only 10, but do 10 yr olds normally go into chats online, or have much computer presence, etc? Had she mentioned to anyone about a new friend she just met in the past few weeks or so? Maybe an older teen? Like....going to the public pool over the summer and new friends she may have met there....or older friends who she rode bikes with in the neighborhood? Need to see how close the HS is to her home or elem school.

Sorry to ask, but have the teachers, janitors, cooks, etc be accounted for on Friday...? Does the father have relatives still in Colorado? Is there any chance any of them might partake in abducting her? His mother, father, etc.?

I am so hoping for surveillance videos from residents, etc.

And... many good questions here.... :waitasec:

The vehicle used in these incidents is described as a royal blue – similar to the blue worn by the University of Kentucky – 4-door sedan, possibly from the mid 90s. It may have dents on the passenger side rear door and may have half of the rear wheels covered with a "skirt" similar to those seen on a 1996 Cadillac Deville.

Wish there was an identifiable tattoo or scar....:please:

That's kind of what I think happened. That it wasn't a stranger...

1,100 volunteers searching

(knox, I think the three blocks is the walk from the park to the school.. not sure but according to the map it makes more sense)

This seems like such a great community! I'm really impressed with LE, the media and helpful locals in this case. Really feels as though everyone is working together so diligently!

Im in Colorado and obviously am very aware of this...although I dont live in that county, further south..

Over the past couple of years, there has been an alarming amount of child [attempted] abductions all over the state...not just in that area. All over. In good and bad areas of Colorado. For awhile it seemed that every week or so there was some report about an attempt. Sometimes I wonder if the fact that I25 runs right thru the state which north goes up to Montana and south, goes all the way down to Mexico is a reason for this. Major major thoroughfare....easy to get from one end of Colorado to the other in a short amount of time. But regardless, my friend and I were talking a couple of months back at how it seems every week or so there is an attempt made and reported in the news. Worrisome. I know it has made her paranoid and on high alert with her kids 24/7.

Obviously every district handles absent kids differently...the county I am in, handles it very differently than JeffCo. If a kid doesnt show up, a live person makes that call to the parent. If they cant reach the parent, the emergency contact number is called. This happened with my friend a week or so ago....she kept her daughter home and forgot to call into the office. Shortly after the bell rang, the front office personally called her number to find out where her daughter was. We have tons of walkers in my neighborhood - even in winter. However, there are always tons of parents around walking with kids and we have a crap load of law enforcement that live in my neighborhood who also have kids that go to the local elementary school. Also, there are always cops driving all around during the "walk to school" time. Once a week, a cop sits outside due to crappy parental driving :)

Still...many parents adopt a very false sense of security....ive seen very very young kids riding their bikes or walking all alone.....that always worries me.

The weather today is absolutely horrible and incredibly somber. Prayers and thoughts go out to everyone working this case and to Jessica.....this is all so heartbreaking.

According to 9News, there is "severe winter weather" rolling into the area this weekend. :(

The weather accounts have me shivering for poor Jessica! :(

Not judging, but I would never allow my child to leave my sight to walk that far to school. I don't care if she was meeting other kids or not. I would either be walking with her or driving her. There are just too many horrible people in this world just looking for an opportunity to catch a child alone for a second.

I know I am overprotective, but I would rather be too overprotective than really, really sorry I wasn't for the rest of my life.

The live news said Detectives and Victim's Advocates have been at Jessica's home all day. Reporter asked if she could speak with family, officer told her no, Jessica's Mom is overwrought with emotion. Heartbreaking to hear ...

Ten isn't 5, or 6. I don't think it is terrible for a 10-year old to walk a bit to meet up with friends, as a rule. It is possible that whatever happened to Jessica could have happened just by going outside to check the mail.
