Re her Hollister zip-up hoodie:

Hollister is sized for teens & older. I'm 46 & also wear Hollister, A&F too. Hollister doesn't have a store for younger children. However, A&F has Abercrombie Kids and American Eagle Outfitters has 77 Kids. My son is 10 & wears A&F Kids. Even an XS Hollister is still too big in the arms for him, much like how the hoodie Jessica had on fit her. These are very popular brands. Just thought I'd throw that out there as my boys have closets full of this stuff, Under Armour and NFL stuff too. I know nobody asked, but I saw mention of kids wanting to maybe act older & such so just thought I'd enlighten a bit. Just bc Jessica had a Hollister hoodie, it doesn't necessarily mean she wanted to act older. These name brands are popular in the way that Sponge Bob or iCarly would be popular. 5th grade is stereotypical for when girls start to express theirselves with clothes, lip gloss, etc.
It was her mom who said she was in a hurry to be a teenager.

I think it's really important to note that Jessica may have walked farther and in a different direction than the park. She could have walked to the friend's house; to the rec ctr; to the school via the path or street.
we have not been told where she was when she was abducted, if LE even knows.
The possible sighting with the unicorn pillow pet at the rec ctr, if accurate, means she was not just within 3 blocks of her home.

.

What do you mean by this?
And I thought she called her friend that morning to see if they were still going to meet because of the weather, they decided to still walk. I think that was in the interview as well?

After looking at a map on Google Earth there is no way she did not know this person! How in the world did he lure her in a neighborhood so conjested with people every which way that could see him trying to snatch her. I am wondering if the Aunt that lives in the house has a boyfriend or ex-boyfriend with a past unknown. If it was someone she didn't know, that person was taking a risk of being seen if she screamed and struggled trying to get her into a car. It had to be someone who she trusted who possibly said he would give her a ride up to the park. He wasn't afraid to do it so close to so many people and almost comfortable with his relationship with her. Almost like he would have an excuse if anyone saw her and him together if someone approached unknownly. Again, just my thoughts.

Unless he just grabbed her. Maybe he has found that luring doesn't work and just grabbed her. Which is 10x scarier.

The thanks button wasn't enough. I sense the same thing. These are seasoned LE and they've seen a lot during their careers, but this is more......

I'm glad I don't know everything they know.

I have a friend who is a DA, not in that county, but she of course knows stuff: she has told her daughter (a teenager) not to go anywhere alone for a while.

Ugg, do you know how often I think about this when we're driving through the mountains? My mind just goes to "there must be so many people out there".

I rarely think of that until THIS happened! But yeah that isn't good if you think of bodies while driving through the gorgeous mountains!

I have thought of it since ... we have a large mountain open space next to our house, and have just looked out to see if I notice anything, and am extra careful about locking doors etc.

The Jessica Ridgeway memorial service at Faith Bible Chapel in Arvada, Colorado is open to everyone despite the fact that the church only has 3,600 seating capacity. And that's because it will be streamed live.

9NEWS.com will be providing everyone a chance to see the family and friends of the child victim turn out in Arvada for her memorial service on Tuesday night at 7 p.m

<modsnip> ETA oops, sorry nursie. here is a better link to same thing http://www.9news.com/news/article/294605/222/Family-to-celebrate-Jessica-at-public-memorial-

Just an FYI for those who wish they could be there but RL commitments or distance prevents it.

I am wondering how Jessica spent her summer? If her mom slept all day, was she playing at the park a lot with friends? Could it be a park worker or rec worker or someone she saw a lot during the summer? Maybe a college kid?

ITA.

IMO, it has to be someone who at least knew her routine, but possibly also knew that her mom would be asleep. It's not that I don't believe in coincidence, but with a 5 minute walk in that location, in the middle of a random neighborhood where the roads don't really connect to anything meaningful from all directions... what are the chances it was completely random?

Then again, someone waiting around a neighborhood would attract attention if they weren't normally there, wouldn't they? So, thinking along those lines, it seems there are two possibilities: someone who was in a "work vehicle" of some sort... a vehicle with markings; or someone who actually lived in that general suburb area but who ended up on Moore Street from the immediate south, who drives out of that neighborhood along Moore St. to get to 108th on their way to work.

Anyone speculating as to whether the killer may make an appearance at the memorial?

If this is a member of the community, I say odds are good he will be there. It may look odd not to be, particularly if he lives in Jessica's immediate neighborhood.

And my theory on the body placement and all of that; I think he wanted it to be found, just like the backpack. He knew that this exact spot was where teens hang out and would visit. I don't think he knew the garbage service would be called out there, I think he wanted teens out there looking for "ghosts" to find her. If he didn't want her found, he could have just driven 10 yards further up the road and she wouldn't have been found. I don't know about other states, but in Colorado when you see a pull-off, you know there's a reason for it. It's a place where people frequently pull over and get out for a photo opportunity or a hiking trail, etc.

And after reading some theories on the other thread, I think it is possible he is a photographer. I would be curious to know how visible she was from the road. If he placed her there and stood back to photograph the area, could she be seen at all in the photograph? Or is she hidden? It may be part of his weirdness, like he wants to save pictures of the scenes (yea, I know this was a Criminal Minds episode or two...)

Agree, he wanted her reamins found.

Interesting thought that the killer possibly was expecting a teenage "audience" at a known spooky location where they hang out.

If that is the case then the killer must have local knowledge of that area, maybe even have some connection to those teenagers who frequent that spooky location.

An alternative could be artistic people who use the area for photo, film, painting etc.

On Vimo there is a B/W short experimental film of that exact area, made by pupils from Dever Film School:

[ame="http://vimeo.com/9246162"]Pattridge Park on Vimeo[/ame]

By the way, was the killer/killers in the Criminal Minds episodes a photographer? or did he just take pictures of his crimescene?
maybe jessica's killer saw that/those episodes? and got inspired?

Do you have a link to any of those Criminal Minds episodes? or know what they were called? or when they were broadcasted?

Lots of people were abducted and murdered in the 1970s too.Lots of parents didn't allow their kids that much freedom then or now. There has to be a middle ground.

But then there is the other end of the spectrum, where paranoid parents don't let their kids do anything. Parents who don't let their older kids learn how to be independent. Parents who don't let their 16 year olds do anything - including go to school - unsupervised. What happens when those kids grow up and can't function in the world?

Yes there are bad guys out there, but statistically speaking, the chances of running into them are low. The chances are higher that they will be molested by a family member or step father, for example.

I agree that this is certainly a quandary...

I have seen the effects of both sides of the pendulum... Not counting abduction/murders... And It takes a whole lot of soul searching and awareness for a parents to make the correct decisions... :waitasec:

-The vehicle will either have a trunk or a truck bed because I dont thinik the person would transport the bag with the remains in a backseat. The person did not want the blood dripping on seats. Vehicle had to have a trunk or truck bed or trailer or something that kept the remains from not staining the main vehicle area.

-The person does not want to get caught, and is very worried. He is just a very immature type person who has some sort of serious mental issues. He may have even been treated for mental issues The person knows he has issues, and uses this as an excuse for why he did what he did. I am afraid he will strike agan within the year. It is very important he is caught because he will build up confidence the more time goes by if he is not caught. If he strikes again, he will use a similar approach and basically do similar to what he has done already.

The idea of a vehicle with a truck bed made me think of something.

You know those do-it-yourself car washes? Do they have surveillance cameras?

Oh no!! :floorlaugh: After months of following Kyron's case, everyone started seeing white trucks everywhere...

It is fascinating how that happens. I have had helicopters flying over my house every single day for the past week, and I don't know if it is different or not. I definitely noticed the one Thursday night, because it was late. But even during the day, I'm hearing them. I live in a suburb south of Denver, so not close to the investigation, and maybe I always have helis flying over? But I don't think so. I'm just so aware now. I have been inside so I don't know if they are police or Flight for Life or what. The fire is up north, and they are staging up there, not here. dunno.

And the white van ... there is definitely a thing about white panel vans, among teen girls. It's kind of silly, they call them raper vans, and get creeped out. (Which is, of course, fine by me.) In fact, a nice normal high school kid got a police visit last year .. some h.s. girls threw snowballs at his white van, he rolled down the window and yelled at them to stop, and then the girls called the police and said someone in a white van was trying to kidnap them. I don't know what that story means, except that people are crazy.

There actually hasn't been confirmation of dismemberment. Please see nursebeeme's post below:

ETA: I haen't seen a pic of the backpack. Anyone else?

I believe the words " not intact" plainly means she was dismembered. LE was trying to soften it as much as possible...the family had just been told their daughter's body was found, but after many actually saw it via helicopter coverage, they had to out it. Also, for me, what confirmed it was LE searching for "Jessica" after the find. LE didn't say evidence...they said Jessica specifically. Another reason, LE is super quite..and stated they would be to MSM. IMO, they are not wanting to take any chances in saying anything at all to the perp that might tilt the perp into more aggression in anyway. So that says they believe he is unbalanced. They are letting former FBI come out with statements. When is the last time 35 agencies were brought into a case? Neither have they come out and denied it. Plus you have ID'ing the body with DNA. I really believe there is no question she was dismembered. I just pray she wasn't tortured and was gone before the act. JMO

ok .. but the son ended up being driven to school because he waited for her and she didn't show and he would be late otherwise? tia

Could be that when Jessica failed to show up, the father did not want HIS child walking the mile to school alone...

Or, the father could have intended to give his son a ride all along, but waited for Jessica to drive her as well, but she never showed.

  • #257
This was a window of opportunity if that's what the perp was waiting for, she usually walked with her friend to school, it was snowing a little and more kids were probably being driven. I think maybe he planned that as his opportunity, if he was waiting for one, so he would know the news, like where he put the backpack, street name, a child had been killed around there. He would also know the history of where he put her, to add the creep factor, it was known for being haunted, maybe even knew maintenance would go there and find her.

He's old enough to get away with this so far, so I keep thinking someone in their 20's, early 30's. He probably likes horror movies, crime shows like CSI, Criminal Minds, maybe, but he could also be a gamer, loner, into the computer 🤬🤬🤬🤬 chatrooms. You know they're searching that angle, anyone into sadistic child 🤬🤬🤬🤬 and has stood out in these chatrooms. If this is his first crime, he's sure been fantasizing it long enough, because he's been good, so far, at not getting caught. JMO and I could be way overthinking this case.

What is the legal driving age in Colorado?

I am interested to hear what you guys think about the backpack being tracked by dogs, from the spot it was left at, all the way up to the high school and back.

I agree that it is likely someone from Jessica's general neighbourhood.

But I think there is a chance that this is a predator who went online, found the local elementary schools and then started prowling in the morning as kids started off for school. Just looking for that one little window of opportunity, that one little time when a child would be out of sight of other people.

Why do I think of a bus route when I look at her neighborhood compared with where her backpack was found? Wondering why the perp picked the area he did to place that backpack. I know it was posted that the lady who murdered her 6 month old child used to live by there, but could that be the only link? What else is there?
